Oh my, that is sooooooooooooo cool! Does anyone know if you'll be able to get the game without a controller? Just in case I already have 4 controllers by then?
It does look very cool! Harley did a great job explaining it, but you can see some pictures at the
WiiPlay wikipedia page.
I'm glad they've confirmed it for Feb 12th - it originally was supposed to come out in January the same week as Wario Ware, but presumably they didn't want two "party" games competing with each other. Then they moved it to March (the week after Mario Party 8 comes out), which seemed odd since they were putting it up against the same type of title. So I'm happy they settled on Feb. - which makes sense anyway, one new party game per month.
Unfortunately, the game will not be available seperately (at least at first). One would assume at some point they will unbundle them and sell it for a lower price point, but for right now it's only going to be both for $50. You have three options : 1) wait to buy your 4th remote until you get Wii Play, 2) buy it when it comes out and sell the controller on eBay, or 3) get Wii Play used from Gamestop/eBay/etc.
Personally, I'm waiting until then to buy a 4th controller. Right now I have three controllers, two nunchucks, and one classic controller. I'm picking up another Classic Controller as soon as I see one in the stores, but besides that, once I get Wii Play with a 4th remote I'll be all set.
So far, AFAIK there isn't any game that uses nunchucks that has more than two players (at least not one that I play right now), so two of those is enough (and I only have used both at once for Boxing in WiiSports so far). Two Classic Controllers is all I need for now, because no game so far released on virtual console needs more than two. You can play with up to 5 players (yes, 5!) on Bomberman 93, but that game only requires the Wii Remote to play (the 5th player is available if you use a GCN controller in the GCN port #1). I absolutely adore the Classic Controller, but so few games were released back then with more than two players I just don't see the need for more than two.
So four remotes, two nunchucks, two classic controllers...that seems to be my set-up needs right now. And I'm definately waiting it out until WiiPlay to get the 4th one, especially since it's before Mario Party 8 comes out. I'm sure as more games come out eventually I'll need to pick up two more nunchucks, but until then I'm not fighting trying to find them, LOL. I was afraid Mario Party 8 was going to require them, but from what I understood from a couple of articles I read online and the new Nintendo Power it seems you will only need the Wii Remote for that game. (Soon to be known as "greatest game that ever was" LOL.)
