I'm just curious. I had WLS 2 years ago and we are going to be on ddp for this trip. If anyone else has had "the surgery" how did ddp work out for you? I wish that they would charge me the child's price w/o making me eat the child's portion. As it stands, I'm spending as much in one day on food as I would normally spend in a month!

I would guess a lot of people would like this :rotfl:

Kidding aside, you could share some meals in order to better manage the small amounts you can take in at one sitting. What do you do when you eat out at home?

My husband and I share our meals or I order just an appetizer. But 6 of our ddp ressies are at Buffets. Reason being . . .character dining for dd. Buffets here charge me for a child's portion. For instance - Ponderosa charges me $3.99.

My 5 y/o dd can eat more than me.

I'm sure that lots of people would love to be charged the child's price, but most of them probably don't eat like a child. I don't mind paying for what I eat and I am being charged as an adult even though I eat less than most toddlers.

I have never encountered a restaurant who wouldn't honor my weight loss surgery card before.

Thanks for your reply!

The Dining Plan is an option, not required. So why not forgo the plan and just pay OOP for meals. This may give you more flexibility in what you order. I have also read where some people who have had this surgery were charged the child's price at buffets when they produced the card you mentioned.

I know that DDP isn't a requirement, but it was my understanding that everyone on the reservation had to use the ddp. Meaning that my dd and dh couldn't have ddp and me pay oop. And 6 of our restaurants (character dining) are buffets, so if I wasn't on the ddp with them I wouldn't be able to eat with them as there is no menu to order food from.

If I could get official confirmation that I could use my card, it would be different, but the ddp does save money when eating at the buffets.

I realize that people who aren't accustomed to a WLS patient wouldn't understand where I am coming from.

Even a CS meal is to much for me to eat in 1 sitting. However, I eat about 6-7 times per day. Small amounts at each sitting, but lots of sittings.

i'm 3.5 years postop and wish i could help, but i've only done DDP when it was free dining. this is JMHO, but the children's menu at most of the restaurants isn't very appetizing to me (mac & cheese, fried chicken fingers, pb&j, etc.) so i think i'd pay to be able to eat off the adult buffet. at most of them, the food is very good (if you go to CP, i highly recommend the citrus marinated flank steak and garlic mashed potatoes!). enjoy your trip!

Eat as you would at home. If you can get back to the room between meals take part of the meal back an put it in the fridge for one of the 6-7 meals you'll have. That is very easy to do with any CS or TS you have at your resort.

You can get a lot of snack items within a CS meal. Make sure you take advantage of that flexibility with other members of your group so that you can use more snack credits for those small meals you want.

As for a buffet charging an adult the child's price. I hope you thank/tip your local manager/server because that is special treatment and shouldn't be expected at other places. There are probably many senior adults eating about the same amount as you do now. Buffet operators really have to price based on average consumption. So while you can only eat a very small amount at that sitting, here comes the high school football team. Average those adults meals together and you probably get about what I'd eat!

septbaby -- If we were eating TS meals that weren't buffets, I would not have a problem. I would be sharing with my husband and/or my daughter. But buffets are not shareable. And if the children's menu was more appealing, it wouldn't be a problem, either.

However, we will be eating character buffets for 6 meals. I am not getting special treatment. I am paying $38.99 per day for DDP like anyone else. I said that I wished they would accept my card and charge me for a child's portion. I assure you that what I eat in one sitting doesn't even come close to that of a typical adult. And last time I checked, most restaurants had senior pricing as well as child pricing. I don't understand who you were wanting me to tip for allowing me to eat at their restaurant?

We rarely eat buffets at home because they aren't worth it dollar wise. It is much more economical for me to go to, let say, Outback and order an outback special for $15.00 and bring what I don't eat home. Thus, allowing me several more meals for that $15, were as the buffet at regular price would be $8-$10 and I can eat maybe $2 worth of food.

Thanks for your reply.

Disney is pretty strict in its pricing. You will have to purchase an adult DDP for yourself and they will deduct 1 adult TS for each buffet you go to. At disney there is no senior pricing, they pay the same as adults as well. I have seen rare exceptions of no charge (or an entertainment charge) at a disney buffet where the person, usually a child, eats absolutely nothing. If if the buffet would be willing to accept your card and charge you a different price (I would only trust answers from the restaurant itself on that one), you would have to pay out of pocket and not use a DDP credit to take advantage of that discount.

Did you ask when you made your reservations? I assume you have the card that most bariatric patients get from their doctor.
