Any Singles Considered the Disney Cruise

I know that we all love Disneyworld, we wouldn't be on the board if we didn't. Lately though I have been wanting to branch out and try one of the Disney Cruises. Has anyone on the board considered doing a group trip on one of the Disney Cruise Lines. I only thought of it because it is always costly to do a cruise solo and thought that some people on the board would be interested.

I've considered it, doing a solo cruise. But they're so darn expensive for a single. Maybe I could get an AARP discount on some other cruise line. Or perhaps DS will come through. He's a musician on Princess, does the Alaska cruises in the summer, and I'd love to see Alaska. And I think he could get a discount for family members. But I have a feeling the DCL is too rich for my pocketbook.

I'm just about to do the DIS boards Podcast cruise (12th - 16th December) as a single - can't wait!:banana::banana:

Many years ago I went on a cruise (to Alaska) with another company, and they matched up people to share rooms! It was after we were on board that they hooked up all the "odd" people. My roommates were a lady with a newborn, a famous artist (male), and his young daughter. I can't imagine that happening today! LOL

I have also attended scrapbook events where I have been matched ahead of time with a roommate I didn't know befoe. And I have a friend who has gone on group tours where she has roomed with another traveler where the tour company matched them.

My point is that (A) We never saw each other except for the short amount of time we were sleeping, and (B) There are travel companies who will match singles to save $ on rooms. -- Maybe you could meet someone on the DIS Boards that you would like to travel with!

I love cruises been on Carnival and Holland America. I thought about doing a Disney cruise but as a solo it's very expensive. My Carnival cruises are with a group of friends. The Holland America was an Alaska cruise which was through a travel agent who paired me with an older lady. I only saw her at dinner and in the room. All other times we were both off doing our own thing. I might be willing to join someone for a Disney cruise.

TTester,

We are both in Maryland, that might be a plan. I am going to do some research and check to see if they do groups or something. My DBF's dad is a travel agent so he may be useful.

Right now my calendar for next year is so crazy, I don't know when I will be able to travel. I really want to do the Disney cruise with some like minded adults so this may help to cure my Disney fix on my next big vacations.

Since you are from Maryland you need to join us when we have our DisMeets. Here's the link to the DISMEET DC/MD/VA/PA/DE thread. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2559629 You will meet other like minded adults in our area. :thumbsup2

I'm like you 2011 schedule is already crazy. I'm already book for a Carnival cruise in April. If you want we can go in 2012. Have your DBF's dad check it out.

I thought I was the only one who's wanted to do this but had no one to travel with. I've read nothing but good things about it but just like you all my 2011 schedule is insane. oh well....I can dream can't I?

I sailed solo on Disney earlier this year. I've cruised longer cruises on the Magic with friends before, but this was a last minute 4 nt cruise to check out the Wonder. I wouldn't hesitate to cruise solo on Disney again (and am actually considering doing just that for either a Transatlantic or Med cruise). By booking last minute when they dropped the price point on the category 12s (look for Category 11c for 2011 onward), the price even with single supplement was quite reasonable. I was seated at a table with 4 other people -- 3 sisters and a gentleman who was dad to a really good friend of Disney Dreams' Peter Pan. It was a good mix.

The Navigator lists plenty of adult activities during the day and evening. Cruise Staff usually host at least a couple of Singles Mingles in the afternoon/early evening and a Singles table at lunch in Parrot Cay on sea days. The adult-only areas on the ship are wonderful places to hang out. I'm rather fond of the Cove Cafe. Actually, even when I've traveled with a friend to share the cabin, I've done pretty much the same activities.

I've always been a single traveler. I understand that traveling alone on a cruise can be costly but it's well worth it in my opinion. I would prefer to have my own stateroom then share with a complete stranger or someone I was paired up with. I was a single traveler on Holland America to Alaska and on Disney Magic on the Transatlantic in September 2010. I am currently booked on the Disney Wonder in January 2011 and I will be traveling alone.

I was tempted to book a cruise by myself in 2011, but it was too expensive. I might be taking a short cruise (3-4 days) on a different cruise line just to see if I'd like it.

If anyone is considering a solo cruise and wants company, let me know.

Hi,

I did two solo cruises on the Disney Wonder (2006 and 2007) in connection with the last two Mousefests, paid top dollar, but had a great time. As ImprovGirl has stated, the Navigator lists activities for adults as well as for children and teens. Far from feeling conspicuous, I may have inspired some envy among those who wish they had the courage to travel solo. ;-)

I know that DCL (Wonder) has a two day cruise to nowhere departing San Pedro, CA. If you can book it the cost could be as inexpensive as $350.00.

I totally agree with you. The wrong roommate could make your trip a total, uncomfortable disaster. I like staying up late on vacation. It would be a total mismatch if I was paired with someone who went to bed early, or talked too much, liked to party, etc...I think I'd be on pins and needles sharing a room with a stranger.
If you're brave enough to do it kudos to you.

I am trying to work up the courage to try a solo cruise on the Dream... maybe the Jan 30 4-night....... and I might do 3 nights in Disneyworld before the cruise. Anyone else going to be doing either of those ?
I've been on the Wonder twice with family members, but not sure if I would feel awkward or uncomfortable travelling alone.
Any suggestions?

Annmorr. I think you should book this cruise and not be worried about what others might think. Since you've been on the Wonder I'm sure you are aware that they are some great people on the Disney cruises. I'm sure you'll be just fine.

Thanks for agreeing with me epcotfan. You also make some great points.

Yes, eight times.

Bahamas
Baltic
Eastern Caribbean
Mexican Riviera
Southern Caribbean
trans-Atlantic
trans-Panama Canal
Western Caribbean

Then at the end of this month, I have another cruise back to the Bahamas. Then in April and May, I have my first B2B with DCL. L.A. to Vancouver, B.C. Then Vancouver, B.C. to Alaska to Vancouver, B.C.

But I have always coughed up the money to get my own cabin or room. As I don't travel well, if I have to share a cabin or room. Not even when I travel with my younger sister and her husband. They get their own room. I get my own room. And everybody is happy.

I'll be cruising on the Dream in February of 2011; spending 2 nights at WDW pre-cruise. I can't wait! Being a single cruiser didn't make me hesitate at all. Granted, there are times when I wish I had someone to share experiences with. But, having another person sharing a room or stateroom doesn't always mean they're 'sharing' the vacation - I found that out the hard way! Seriously, how do you deal with a traveling companion who always walks 2 steps behind you???!!! It's impossible to carry on a conversation! I even tried to deal with it in a humorous way by telling her that I was not Queen Elizabeth to her Prince Phillip! :rotfl2:

Hi Karice,

My sister, myself, and my best friend from high school all want to do a cruise in 2012. Two of us are single but we all want to have clean good fun. We feel so safe with Disney. Do you know how many people can fit in a deluxe suite? Because if the DCL has a nice suite for 6 people then maybe we can all plan to go together. I have 3 plus you is 4. Maybe we could get 1-2 more people. I wonder if you can do bounce back on DCL because I am going to DW in 01/11. That could get us a great discount. We are all christians and we believe in family first. And good friends are considered family. :grouphug:

We thought about other cruise lines that are cheap but I have heard on the news that several cruise lines have had service failures etc that we want to go Disney. Disney just makes us feel safe. We started to think of other girl trips we could go on like Vegas, Skiiing, Miami. We just want to have some fun and do something new that is safe.

A little about me. I used to live in DC at GW University in Foggy Bottom. We use to go to Maryland all of the time for shopping. We now live in Arizona and Texas for my best friend.

It would be nice to have a Disney singles group. I know the thought comes and goes but it seems that it never quite sticks.

One of us is in the military so maybe we could get some kind of discount. We are also AAA members.

I don't know how this would be ironed out but I think it is so cool that we have the dis to even dream about such things. Meeting new people and going on cruises. :woohoo:

If you are interested I am going to send you a friend request and you can "befriend" me.

Merry Christmas!
