I wouldn't think you could bypass the front desk. If you have a package with tickets/dining, you always have to stop by the front desk to get your KTTW card. Now an AP is totally different and I don't know how that works. But I I understand correctly, the front desk has to "scan" the Mickey head chip.
I would think just the opposite, actually. If you have your MB mailed to your home, and it is already linked with
MDE reservation info.. why would you need to go by the front desk? The information is already there, and remember.. the MB ONLY contains (so we're told) the reservation # (or some unique identifying # to access your reservation detail).. so.... there's really nothing more that needs t be done.
I could actually see this as a benefit to Disney, as MB's could potentially reduce the que at the check in desk (and therefore allow less staffing?).... people get their MB's ahead of time, link everything up, do online checkin to add CC info for charging, and as long as they don't need to make changes or requests or something.. they can go straight to their room, once ready (they would be notified via Disney when ready), or to the parks, etc.
Now, certainly that wouldn't work for *everyone*, but it may work for some, which would increase the guests time in the park, or at DTD, or whereever else they can spend $ on property, and help to reduce waits/lines at guest services at the resorts.
Of course, this is all speculation, since this is just a TEST phase now.. but that's totally how I could see this working.
And for AP holders, once their AP is linked, they certainly don't have to "check in" anywhere in order to use their MB's as park admission.
And, for us, it would be GREAT! to bypass the front desk check in. I'd love that!
