For some reason the cart in the Italy pavilion is usually closed when we pass, or we're headed to eat or something, so I haven't tried their gelato. And I think I heard briefly some time ago that at one of the resorts (I want to think it was Boardwalk) they added gelato in a place that was recently redone.

Anyone know if this is REAL gelato? Or is it just plain old ice cream? I know any of you who may have been to Italy before know the difference. :thumbsup2 I've been craving a pistaccio and chocolate cone and Italy's a little too far away right now :rotfl2: I just can't seem to find good gelato . . . my biggest pet peeve is places that sell ice cream in a freezer that's turned down just a little bit to make the ice cream a little softer.

The Marketplace at the Beach Club Resort has what they claim to be "real" gelato. Its richer than any ice cream I've ever had, but never having been to Italy...

Thanks - that must be the one I was thinking of . . . going to have to try it. "Real" gelato does have a richer flavor, it's creamier and softer, consistency somewhere between regular and soft serve, hard to describe LOL. It's usually scooped by a paddle instead of a regular scoop.

I'm making myself even hungrier for it now, LOL! I'll be so happy if it's the real stuff. :teeth:

I LOVE Gelato!

I used to make hazelnut gelato (Parmalat had a really good ready to use mix, and I added hazelnut paste to it) in my ice cream maker. But they discontinued the mix and I have been craving it ever since.

That sounds SO good. . . I might have had to invest in an ice cream maker if they still had that mix!

I had my first gelato at the BC Marketplace last week and thought it was wonderful! They had several flavors...raspberry, lemon, mango, chocolate, and I believe hazelnut. :thumbsup2

Although I've never had gelato in Italy, it sounds like the gelato at BCMarketplace. When I was there last, they didn't have hazelnut, but they did have Pistachio, my favorite. But the pistachio's not green, like most people expect, it's sort of tannish. But it's sooo delicious! They'll let you mix flavors, so I love to mix the mango with vanilla, rasberry with vanilla, actually any kind of gelato!

DH and I went to that awesome Gelato store at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. They had 30 different flavors with fresh fruits, nuts, and chocolate. We have always wondered why Disney does not open one of those kind of shops in the Italy section of Epcot. They would making a killing!

We also had gelato twice while at Las Vegas. We had never had it before and it was fabulous. In fact, one evening it was supper! I will have to try it at MM.

That means it REAL! Or at least they're trying very hard to replicate real. :thumbsup2 Oh I'm so there! Even in Italy most places add the green coloring in, but the best of the best leave it in it's natural color.

I made my friend go to 3 gelato shops in Vegas last year. Oddly, the Aladdin had the most "authentic" - better than Bellagio and Venetian :rotfl2: Not sure how that happened. But their pistachio and chocolate was SO close to what I had over and over again in Italy.

Venetian's I ended up throwing away, and Bellagio just the fruit flavors were ok. Anything else was SO not like any gelato I had in Italy.

Mmmmm....gelato!! I couldnt get enough of it when my husband and I were in Italy last year. I am certain we ate it at least two times a day every day for the 10 days we were there!! But we gave ourselves a challenge, we could never order the same flavor twice until we tried them all...I think the coffee and the strawberry gelatos were my favs!! Hope I can find some good replica gelato in WDW!!

That stuff in the cart is GROSS!!!! It's hard as a rock and anyplace in Italy would be ashamed to sell it.

BC's marketplace is much better. Not Italy, but not bad.

I second the post about the gelato at the Aladdin in Las Vegas. OT I know but if any of you ever go there... Try the mango or papaya. Yummy. Oh yea, the pineappple...

Good to know! Now I don't have to feel so bad about missing it!

Any chance the BC marketplace gives gelato as a snack credit on DDP? That would be fabulous.

BTW- our best gelato ever was in little Italy in NYC. Peach, so good we took the subway twice from Times Square just to go back and have more!!!

The gelato at the BC Maketplace is not available as a snack....at least not in early May which was after so many other things became snack options.

My husband and daughter loved having gelato every night of their trip to Italy a couple years back. They both report that the gelato at the BC Marketplace is the real thing not ice crceam at all. They still prefer the stuff in Italy but that probably has to do with St. Mark's Square, etc. ;) They do love the gelato at the BCMarketplace. :thumbsup2
