Any Pug Owners Out There????

Roscoe is going for surgery Fri. He is having a cyst removed from his eyelid. I'm a little nervous, but I trust my vet completely. Wish him luck.

Well as I sit here in tears it seems as thought my above post was quite prophetic. Yesterday we lost our beloved Daisy to cancer. We were blessed to have her for 11 years (her bday was just a day before she passed away). I can't really describe the loss I am feeling other than to use the word devastating. SHe gave us no signs of being ill at all until abt 24 hours before she died, but an xray revealed extensive cancer in her lungs. We will miss her always:sad1: and love her forever:lovestruc .

Oh I am so very sorry. She was a beautiful pug. My kids were loving her cute chubby pictures.

He went to vet school with my husband's aunt. She was the first female graduate from that school. So he knows I ask her about everything he says.

Oh- good! It's so importatnt to trust your vet. I go to a group and I really am liking them more than I did.
As you well know, furbabies are like your kids and you want the best for your kids!!

Keep us updated. :goodvibes

Maidenfairy, it could be worse. It could be your DH going in for surgery. Men are always babies when it comes to medicine and a quick healing time is prolonged by wanting to be pampered. ;) Roscoe will be his old self again in no time, I'm sure. Sending good thoughts his way. :wizard:

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts:hug: . I am feeling better now that we have her ashes back in our home. I hated being seperated from her even after she passed on. Now I need to find a perfect little urn. So far I have not found just the right thing for her. My husband and I were joking last night that we need a recording of pug noises to play in the background at home bc without all the snorting and sunffling, it's just too darned quietpug: pug: !!!!

Maidenfairy!!!! All my good vibes are headed in your direction for your baby's surgery!!! I hope there's a good way to keep him from scratching at the eye afterwards. I know my dog would have been messing around with it constantly. Maybe putting mittens on the paws or soemthing like that?

Roscoe did great! He is home and happy. The stitches are not bothering him at all. Thanks for all the good vibes.

My pug's breath is terrible and his teeth are impossible to clean both b/c he HATES getting it done and b/c the stuff just won't come out. I've bought and used the toothpaste and toothbrush but it doesn't get the gunk out. He also chews rawhides but those don't help either.

The vet said pugs teeth get so bad b/c they are such lickers (their own fur, my other dogs, his bed, our legs, anything) and crud gets stuck in their teeth.

He's already lost a couple of front bottom teeth and I don't want him to lose anymore--he's only 5.

Any suggestions?

We've never had that problem with either of our pugs and I'm looking into rescuing another one now. :yay: :yay: :yay:

I think you have to start employing my method of cutting nails. You sit on the kitchen floor and wrap your legs around the hind legs and hold the front legs with one hand or employ someone else to hold the front ones. Then, you need to start brushing your puggies' teeth every few days, at least, whether he likes it or not.

Are you feeding him kibble or canned food? Kibble also helps to keep teeth cleaner since it's hard and scratches at the tooth surface.

In the worst case, your pug will continue to lose teeth and you will put him on a canned/soft diet. We do what we can for our dogs and if keeping him on a soft diet because he doesn't have enough teeth to chew kibble, isn't the worst thing that could happen. KWIM?

Good luck with your quest!

I'd also look at the Azira website. They have a lot of holistic approaches to dog and cat health and they may have something to help your dental situation.

I only have one with bad breath. I buy them those Dentabones. They seem to work well. The one with the bad breath has 2 'extra' bottom teeth, and the vet said they may need to come out if they start to cause problems.

I also feed them dry food. RUDisney has great advice!

Good luck :goodvibes

And good luck RUDisney on finding your rescue pug! :santa:

I am so happy I found this thread. Our pug, Poe, joined us about 3 weeks ago and I am shocked at how hard it's been to house train him, but also relieved that it's just the breed.

Absolutely! Pugs are just either stubborn or stupid when it comes to getting that concept down.

Congratulations on your new pug! I agree with RUDisney...stupid, stubborn...probably both! Our pug is a year old (well, on Sunday she'll be a year) and we still have issues with accidents from time to time. House training was a test of my patience. Just remember...this too shall pass.

The one thing I was truly not prepared for was the shedding though, which did not start until she was several months old. My dog groomer laughed at me when I said we added a pug to our house, because she knows how crazed I get about pet hair. I didn't understand why this was so funny until my Daisy started shedding at light speed. :sad2: Still, we love her and I'm learning to adapt!

We finally got over the crying thing with our pug. Seemed to stop once she was house trained and we stopped using the crate. She also stopped chewing up my furniture. I got the bitter apple and sprayed all furniture legs. Rawhide has been a huge help with that also. I'm hoping we are in for no more surprises now.
