My DH is biting the bullet, & has a vasectomy scheduled for May 11th. Please tell me how anyone you know has had no problem's, etc. He is horrified, & I keep thinking what if in 5 years we change our minds. Has anyone had a successful reversal? We already have 3 children, so I know we do not want more, but what if?

I'm no expert about this, but I've heard reversals are very difficult and are not always able to be done.

However, my BIL just had it done with no problems at all. They've already had their kids and are most definitely not going to have anymore.

DH and other guys I know have had it done and there were no problems. The "biggest" problem is continuing to use birth control until the Dr. tells you all is clear.;) I think it is a great solution for the couple that is done having kids and a surprise would be very disruptive. There is a "big" plus of spontaneous sex without any worries.
The rule is it can be reversed at a rate of 90% after 1 year, 80% after two years and so on. But like all rules there are exceptions.

My hubby had one about 8 yrs ago. He has had not one problem and even said he was very surprised how easy it was.

He was a bit uncomfortable the rest of the day of the procedure. I remember having to remind him to take it easy on day 2. He was ready to carry on as per usual.

Let's put it this way, being done is wonderful. I feel like a weight is lifted from me. He should only get this procedure if you two are done, done.

Dh had his done last year. All is well. He does have tinges of pain now and then. I am 41 now and NO WAY do I want a baby. Hard enough with 14 & 9yodd's.:rotfl:

Ed had it ast month..It took 2 surgeries and he had a *problem*..That said,He'sstill very glad it was done

Speaking from first hand experience, it's no big deal. I should have taken it easier afterwards, but I had some emergency work that had to be done at home.

But no porblems afterwards. He should continue using other birth control at least 21 times, then go back to the doctor to be tested.

I wouldn't have had any problem with the idea of a vasectomy...unfortunately, my DH did...so I ended up getting my tubes tied. We would have ended up with 10 kids if it were left up to him. He is such a baby. ;)

My dh is the biggest baby that ever lived. If he has to get a shot or blood test he has to lay down or will faint. When he said he wanted one I was shocked and kept on asking if he was sure. It went fine, and we have had no problems since. He does suggest several bags of frozen peas to be on hand for afterwards :).

DH had his last Spring. It was a piece of cake. He was out riding his motorcycle the next day.

Do check and see if he needs a jock strap after the procedure. I had to run to the pharmary with my 7 monh old at the time and another in the over and ask for a jock strap :rotfl2:

Thanks everyone he will be glad to hear all the positive input. He is a horrible cry baby too. I am not really interested in the reversal, I guess it is for what if we both bumped our heads & lost our minds & needed another child :goodvibes . I really love kids, but I think 3 is plenty!!! I hope his turns out as well as everyone else's or I will never hear the end of that!

I know several people that have successfully had vasectomies reversed! I also know 2 people whose vasectomies didn't "take" and got a big suprise... ;)

My Dh passes out when he gets blood drawn. Its called Vasculer something.

I went to pick him up after the surgery in the DR office & they were wheeling him down to the ER. He spent an hour or so in there & was fine. Anything that invades a vain put his body in shock. I used to call him a baby too!

I know I'll get flamed for this but I was'nt sure I wanted him to do it at first. He insisted on having it. Then I was glad because I realized I never have to worry about a second family for him. I know it's selfish. But I have seen this happen to other familys. Husband leaves old wife & starts second family.

You may want to look for a doctor who does a no scalpel vasectomy

This is a form of an IUD; I had one for a while, and it had a "unique" way of preventing pregnancy -- for me, it caused me to have my period EVERY DAY, ALL MONTH! It did prevent pregnancy, but it also cut down on the opportunities for becoming pregnant.

My sister found a dr. in FL that has a high success rate for reversals. She got pregnant about 3 months (or maybe even less) after the reversal and is due this July. It was expensive though, around $5k.

I not only had it done but had a special chair so I could watch the entire thing ( like Discovery Health Chan.as well). No big deal and it was all done with the laser quick and easy.
Peas worked great for day it was done but after the next day they were not needed was out and about.

DH had it done a while ago. The proceedure itself was not bad according to him but he had an allergic reaction to the sutures they used!! We were at a wedding 3 days after the proceedure and he began burning up!!! We had to leave...........he was quite swollen and red hot!!! He went to the ER and was given pain med's and that is when he discovered he was having an allergic reaction to the sutures!!! But the proceedure did work and we will remain a family of 5!!!! LOL!!

My brother had one done at least 30 years ago. He divorced and remarried a younger woman 24 years ago, so he had it reversed. He had 4 more children (for a total of 6) before he had it done AGAIN, for the (I hope) last time. ;)
