My husband and I will be down on Sunday for 1 week and are seriously considering the purchase of this DVC membership. I know they have cm's all over to discuss it. Is there a tour involved, how long is the tour/discussion, at the end is there anything like a coupon or any kind of incentive given to the potential purchaser after the tour? He's trying to figure out if it is worth his 3 hours at disney, that's what he thinks it will be. This board has already given him so much info about it. Thanks for any help.

I don't remember how long my tour was but it wasn't three hours. I don't think it would be that long even if you purchased right away. Unlike other timeshares, DVC really does sell itself. I have heard of some people who have received certificates good for lunch but generally all you get is about 49 years of great vacations when the tour is completed. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

Dh and I got cotton candy after touring the models of SSR while they were still at BWV! and a couple of resort pins! We weren't interested (well I might be interested but ... ) in buying, just touring and killing time while we waited for our room to be ready at OKW.

If you are intersted in DVC, then please do take the tour while you are down there. More and more people seem to be returning from trips wishing they'd found the time. Even if you end up going resale, there's no substitute for seeing the rooms in person.

Speak to a DVC rep at one of the kiosks very early in your stay. They can schedule the tour and DVC will even take care of the transportation. They will pick you up in a DVC van from any location on-property and drop you off when you are done. Tell them up front that you only want to spend an hour on the tour, and they will accommodate. They are used to dealing with people who want to get back to their vacations.

Two suggestions:

1. Have them pick you up at a theme park around 3pm--take the tour--then walk from SSR over to Downtown Disney for dinner.

2. Have them pick you up at your resort first thing in the morning--take the tour--then have them drive you to a theme park.

If you schedule it right, you'll probably never notice the time lost.

This was a couple of years ago when the models were still at the BW. We got FastPasses for each of us and Cotton Candy.

When I took the tour I received two Q & C vouchers. I also had a fast pass option but I was leaving that day. This was back in Dec '03 so things may have changed since then.

Yup, the best perk will be at least one holiday every year at disney... who can beat that? Thanks for your time in responding.

We were there in early December and signed up for the tour. After digning up I was made aware that I woudl have a choice of four "meal coupons" which are good at The Artists Palette (right in SSR) as well as 30+ other counter service restaurants on property. The other choice was 6 fastpasses for use on any fastpass ride in the park. We also were pleasantly surprised with ice cream at the end of our tour.

Our guide suggested that if we were hungry we could visit The Artists Palette, have lunch and then return for for ice cream. We took him up on his offer.

The tour could have been as short as 30 - 45 minutes if we wanted it to. We took about 90 minutes, and our kids enjoyed the supervised play area. Apparently, we were told it was something like a $20 million investment for the open house area.

I would definitely recommend the tour.

I agree with tjkraz and Familyguy, definately take the opportunity to take the tour. Seeing the actual dvc rooms in person is worth far more than any info you wil find on the boards or from any brochures & books. The guides from our experience are as hands on or as hands of as you want them to be and will fit the tour time and info to meet whatever time linit you have

last week we stopped by SSR just to poke around and see how everything was coming along when we decided to stop into the tour center. On the spot we met our guide and he took us around showed us some stuff and brought us through all the rooms, gave us some gossip and that was that. In a half hour we were done. Obvioulsy our case was a bit different since we were already members but it can be done

everyone doing the tours last week seemed to be given a couple of pins and free ice cream at the end

I took the tour in December with my wife and two little ones.
Took about 45 minutes.
Followed by free Ice Cream for all of us and the guide gave us 4 lunch vouchers for any of the counter service places.
We ate lunch at the counter servcie place in America - Epcot.
Ended up being around $50 (those place add up fast) so I was pleased, because we were buying with or without free lunch.
