Any other resort guests drive to parks?

I too rent a car. I want to be able to go as I please without standing in a looong line forever. And when I don't feel like driving, then we take the bus. So sometimes we drive ourselves and sometimes we don't.

I prefer to rent a car. But I'll take the bus to Pleasure Island so I can get totally sloshed. :)

Hi! I am the dissenter! :teeth: I have stayed on property since 1980 and either my parent's or I have always used WDW transportation. I figure I am spending an arm and a leg to stay here.....might as well take advantage of all perks! :cool1:

and we will drive down from atlanta... But we are planning on using the park transportation. My husband is looking forward to being able to just park the car for a week. With gas at 2.12 a gallon, so am I!

Hey! :wave2: I am from Ga too! What resort will you be staying at?

I am renting a car for this upcoming April trip, will drive to every park except the MK. I will take the bus to the MK because the total time to drive, park, get monorail is just too too long.
:earsboy: :rotfl2:

I've stayed on property 4 times, and we've always driven everywhere. Only exception is when we stay at POR and take the boat to DTD, but even then we only do that once per trip because the boats stop running fairly early (I think around 11). Driving just seems to be a lot easier; never once taken the buses and have no desire to. Now, if I were staying at a monorail resort, then no way would I drive to Epcot or Magic Kingdom. But other than that, I'd still drive. By the time we leave, I'm so exhausted I just want to sit in my own car and not on a bus (nor do I want to wait for the bus).

Hi Tiggersmom!

We live in Marietta. We are staying at the POP Nov 1-5th.
How about you all?

Another Georgia driver here! We have been 3 times in the last 3 years. This last time we didn't use Disney transport and felt like we had been spending way too much time on the busses! Plus...as a 3 adult family....it was so nice to get in the car and hear quiet after a long busy day in the park.

I will admit....parking at Pop got a little difficult as the weekend approached...and there just aren't enough handicapped spaces there!

Even though we drive...it is nice to have to other transportation option...in case someone wants to change parks or just plain go have a nap!

Bugsy-

Not sure who said it but do check out Mousesavers. I had a reservation for $210.00 for a week and now have one for $165.00 (with the quick pick-up option) thanks to her site!

I always rent a car now. I don't drive to MK, but I do to DTD, AK, BB and the studios, especially if we're going early, since you can get pretty close to the entrance if you get there before parks open.

I don't know why, but I love having a rental car and I always stay on property. I usually only drive it one or two days, usually going to MK and AK (I usually stay in the Epcot resort area, so I can walk/take the ferry to Epcot and MGM). This trip I'm staying at SSR for three nights, so I will probably get a car again. I think Disney busses are great and do a great job, but I agree, I hate waiting for them, I like to go when I want to go. :)

Add us to the list of resort guests who drive to the parks. Most of the time, I even drive to the Magic Kingdom--exception would be E-night, which is now EMH--as I find the wait for a bus from the Boardwalk to Magic Kingdom, in particular, too lengthy. Also resort-to-resort transportation is more easily and quickly accomplished by car. One of my favorite restaurants is Citricos. It is much easier to drive to the Grand Floridian than take a bus to a park and then get another bus to that resort.

I think the WDW transportation system is extensive but not particularly efficient.

I also don't care to wait for a bus on vacation because it is too much a reminder of my daily work commute. I drive to a commuter parking lot and from there use public transportation (bus to metro). :goodvibes

I never rented a car until I had kids. Our first trip after DS was born was a nightmare. Dealing with crowded busses with a baby and a stroller was not fun. Once we're done with strollers we'll probably go back to using WDW transportation.

When we drove we never moved the car from the lot once we checkedin because we liked the buses. When we started flying more we decided not to rent a car for the same reason. Now we still fly and do not rent a car but take cabs whenever we want them. Much easier letting others drive you around. We stay at the Poly so the MK is easy to get to and so is Epcot via monorail. After a long day at Epcot we catch a cab back instead of waiting with the masses to get the monorail. We generally take a bus to the other parks and then take a cab back to the hotel. At the end of the day it is so nice to jump into a car and let someone take you directly back to the resort.

We've previously stayed on site and flown down. It never occured to us to rent a car and used the Disney transportation. It really worked find and no real complaints. However, this year, we are driving down so will have a car and we plan on driving to the parks. I'd have to say the only time transportation was really tough was at the end of the day, about 10:00pm when everyone was on the resort busses and packed in like sardines. Everyone was tired and cranky...I think that is when I'll appreciate the car the most.

Pirate Shop Girl: Too funny! We are going to find a Sonic too. They closed ours here in No Ca several years back & the only time I get my beloved grilled cheese/onion rings/cherry coke meal is in Vegas or Disneyworld. I can't wait. We are going for Mother's Day :Pinkbounc
HI!! :wave2: Where in No Ca are you from?? we are in Sonoma County!

Hey! I'm from Gray (near Macon) we will be staying at the POR.....May 26 - 31! I can't wait! I got a really sweet deal....79.00 per night.....ahhh codes..gotta love them! :goodvibes

We are driving in June. But we will park our vehicle and take WDW transportation also. I love riding the buses.:lovestruc The only time we use our vehicle is if we want to grab a bite to eat outside of Disney.

Hey there Bugsy :wave2: We're from Petaluma! Whereabouts are you? We have lived in Fairfield for about 5 years now. Still have family in Petaluma & Santa Rosa.

We just got back from Disney and as always we drove to the parks. It is much easier to drive and take our stroller than to try and get it in and out of a bus.
