Had a question regarding weapons lock up since Disney does not allow weapons to be carried by anyone other then on-duty law enforcement in their parks. Answer is posted below.

Hmmm, I'm curious what the questioin and answer were now, since I am one.

Just curious... being a 'cop' do you advertise it?? are you afraid of someone hurting you or your family??

My question war regarding the fact that I'm driving and will be taking my off duty weapon on the trip. I was looking for information regarding lock up procedures since Disney does not allow for anyone but on duty officers to carry in the parks. What I found was that they do allow you to secure your weapon with their security and want them locked up in the safe deposit boxes in the resorts not in your hotel safe.

I found a lot of time these threads go bad because a lot of people can't understand why officers would carry and start freaking out at the mention of firearms and I didn't feel like putting up with that or bringing it to this board.

As for my safety and that of my family when I'm at Disney I don't wear anything to identify me as a officer and I don't have a problem posting it on the boards since it is very doubtful that anyone that I deal with is on here or would be able to identify me by my typing. However yes I do get concerned about safety in general since I have had several people advise me that they will hurt me or my family up to and including several death threats.

Well I guess you have received your answer from WDW- you have to give it to them. Don't see what the issue is here? I certainly hope you didn't plan on leaving it locked in the hotel room-or worse yet in your car:confused3

Actually just spoke with a very kind security cast member there who advised either have it secured at the front desk in a safe deposit box at any Disney resort or in your room safe they can also be secured at the front entrance to parks in a safe deposit box if you notify the security CM's at the bag check area. Disney advised that all of these options have only one key so no one else would have access to the firearm except the officer that drops it off. I know I was concerned about access issues and figure other LEO's may be as well.

Frankiesmom I'm not sure what you feel you have to add to this conversation but thanks for your opinion. No I would not leave a firearm in an unattended vehicle.

I know most people don't have to consider this but as you can tell above there are several officers on the board who may find this information useful.

If you feel the need to tell me what a bad person I am for figuring out how to secure a firearm at Disney and want to ask why I would even consider bringing one please don't bother.

I hope this information helps any other officers planning a trip to Disney.

DH and I had very same issue and had no clue. Disney is great with helping when it comes to this. Glad you shared this, never thought to post it.

DH is in law enforcement so you won't get snarky remarks from me because I understand. However, my DH loves being free of that heavy thing while we're on vacation.

Do what is comfortable for you. Realistically, do you think you'll need it & do you trust leaving your weapon in the hotel safe?

Enjoy your trip!

FYI room safe not large enough. SIL an FBI agent who is required to carry his weapon at all times. Weapon would not fit in room safe.

You never know when you'll need your weapon, even at the "Happiest Place on Earth"!

You are joking, correct? Why not leave the security of the park to the Disney security and LBV police?

I wouldn't count on the security of the room safes in the rooms. There have been reports of thefts from the room safes.

Your right on never knowing in fact I remember a while back an officer or two got shot trying to arrest some people in the park. I guess the criminals didn't respect Disney's firearms restriction. :confused3 That being said I don't feel a need to carry at Disney and have every intention of respecting their wishes.

I knew at one point they were using electronic safes that could be opened easily in fact you could find instructions on how to do it on the internet. I wasn't sure if the key locked safes had this problem or not.

When you look at Disney from a criminal's view point it's a great target since you have a bunch of tourists with fairly large amounts of money for souvenirs and food who you know are unarmed and unfamiliar with the area. While there is security most of it appears unarmed with the exception of some on-duty officers.

Remember just because you are there for vacation doesn't ensure that everyone is.

For all those who are posting helpful information thanks it is appreciated.

Would this be the case for a non law enforcement individual? My father has a permit and usually travels with his. I hadn't thought of this until this thread.

Very touchy subject here. My husband is a trooper & what a heated thread weapons on property caused when someone asked about a relative bringing theres with them -of course a few posters just figured that the police officers had some kind of power trip going on. Honestly & unfortunately (IMO)
nobody likes a cop until they need one. Disney is private property & firearms are not allowed. That's all I'm saying ;)

Why bring your weapon at all?

I went to med school and I wont be bringing a stethoscope on my vacation...

Leave it in your locker in the precinct. I'm sure it will be safe there.

Quit buffing out and leave it at home.

Permits are issued for specific counties and states. There are usually restrictions on where and why a person can carry with their permit. I would suggest consulting local (home and Florida) before carrying with a permit.
Good call to look into firearm storage options.
Be Safe.

Yep I should have become a fireman. :lmao: After all everyone loves firemen. Instead I've been a paramedic for over 9 years was a EMT before that and have been a cop for about 8 years now as well.

Swald91 in answer to your post :

Police officer are covered under H.R. 218 to carry throughout the country with proper ID so carrying in Florida and on the trip down is not an issue.

jrt1176: I'll also have a first aid kit in the car so if you want to borrow my stethoscope let me know.
