Swald my wife is the same way she and I have been together through Paramedic school and the police academy I'm not sure how I got lucky enough to find her. :lovestruc

Tell your husband to stay safe.

My dad is actually in Florida...quite a few hours away though. I think that he has a conceal permit. I don't think that I am wording that right or spelling it correctly..

We are meeting at Disney for a vacation soon, so this would be something to find out since he usually travels with it.

Permits are issued for specific counties and states. There are usually restrictions on where and why a person can carry with their permit. I would suggest consulting local (home and Florida) before carrying with a permit.
Good call to look into firearm storage options.
Be Safe.

Yes, I will-you stay safe too. I guess we love our husbands (or wives) no matter how dangerous the job-we keep them all in our prayers & look forward to their return home everyday. Have a great trip!!:goodvibes

The easiest way I found is to call the switchboard and ask to speak with security just let them know he has a Concealed Weapons Permit and was wanting to know what their firearm lockup procedures are and they should be able to help you out. I'm not sure if there will be any difference between law enforcement and civilian ccw procedures or not. If you find out please feel free to put the information in this thread so others can utilize it.

Swald91 in answer to your post :

Police officer are covered under H.R. 218 to carry throughout the country with proper ID so carrying in Florida and on the trip down is not an issue.

Thanks for this answer, I was going to post a similar question as this as I thought officers where only registered within their own state. I have some friends who love disney and are city police officers or state police officers who I am sure would have a similar question about where to keep their firearms. I have no problems with law enforcement carrying weapons with them, especially since they carry them at home at all times for their jobs.

What is with the grief, everyone.:confused3 If you think off duty officers travel anywhere without a weapon, then you have never known an officer personally. Very few ever go anywhere without a weapon. You just have to live it to understand.

Many off duty officers have been responsible for saving lives in a hostile situation, I for one have no problem with them being armed any time, any where.

PDMEDIC, so sorry I opened this all up. I was curious just like a few others. I can honestly understand your concerns and need to find an answer, thanks for the Private message. I carry almost every where off duty, it isn't only the fact of running into those you have arrested or dealt with in the past, it is the mentality of people you run into every day. I have children and will do what I have to do to protect them. Hate to tell you, but more people carry weapons than you realize and most do not carry them legally. I don't think any of us are trying to have egos here and brag about the job we do, we have just learned how to protect ourselves both on and off duty. Again sorry for asking and opening this up I don't think there is anything wrong with asking what you did. My issue is we always fly and I refuse to lock my firearm in a suitcase that could be removed so I have learned to lock mine up at work, which is safer than leaving it at home. Oh and one more note, my department actually suggests that we carry off duty, so before every one thinks its a power trip some require it!

MPHARJ,

Not a problem it seems to have helped a few people and my department much like yours strongly encourages us to carry at all times. My previous department actually had a policy mandating you to carry off duty at all times and you could be disciplined if you were found off duty without a weapon and restraints on you.

The last time I was at Disney I did not carry due to flying for the same reasons you don't this time we are driving so the situation is a bit different. It was also interesting to go to Downtown Disney last time and see the different gang signs it's amazing what you notice when you know what to look for.

That being said if a moderator feels its needed to close and lock this thread I have no issue with it.

Yes I have to agree that things have changed and we tend to be more attentive to those things others would see as graffiti. Well I appreciate your question and if we ever drive again than I know. Have to agree if they close this that is fine with me too.

Stay safe out there!

Leave it in your locker in the precinct. I'm sure it will be safe there.

Quit buffing out and leave it at home.

That wasn't very nice....if you aren't in LE, then you really don't understand that it has nothing to do with "buffing out"....BTW, my DH got a kick outta your assessment about what carrying a weapon means, as I'm the one with the weapon!:lmao:

I wasn't trying to come across as snarky; If I did I'm sorry. My point was that you had already spoke to WDW as to what their policy was.
I appreciate all the police officers do for us every day-putting their lives on the line. We had a very unfortunate incident with an officer being shot here in Rochester about a week and a half ago- Anthony Diponzio RPD. Sad story-but he's hanging on and making much progress every day!:goodvibes
Guns just make me nervous-and I guess I really don't like the thought that people are carrying them around WDW property.
Carry on with your discussion.;)

Apology accepted and pm sent. Please accept mine if I came across harsh as well.

My two cents... It ALWAYS makes me feeler better knowing that the "Good Guys" are armed whether on-duty or off-duty. A small incident can go sideways real quick and we need all the tools at our disposal. When it "hits the fan" regardless of where it occurs, I can't believe that there is anyone who actually would not welcome an armed law enforcement officer in the vicinity, even if he is on vacation and in his shorts and hawaiian shirt.

Stay safe!!!

I just wanted to know how other officers feel, if we were normal! My DH is an officer, he does not carry his wepon on vacation because we usually fly! thank you! Be safe!;)

Now you've all got me curious. Our police chief is also a friend....one who loved WDW as much as I do. He actually bought a place in Florida and spends a ton of time at WDW. I'll have to ask him what he does about firearms when he's down there. I never even gave it a thought.

Pdmedic, you can carry your weapon anywhere you see fit as far as I'm concerned. Criminals tend to break the law (hence the name -criminal-) and that includes carrying concealed weapons whether it's against Disney policy or not...

I know guns may make some people 'nervous', but in my opinion the more guys like Pdmedic walking around with their off-duty weapon (that they have been trained extensively to use) the better...

Also, I'm a physician assistant and have never brought my stethoscope to WDW, but now I'm thinking about it... ;)

At the 'security' checkpoints at the park, inform the guard that you are law enforcement and carrying. They will have someone from the Orange Co Sheriff Dept come over ans secure your weapon for you until you leave the park. As mentioned before SIL is FBI and REQUIRED to carry...always on duty. Son is local police and they have the same policy though he did not carry when we went to Disney. As for flying, SIL fills out a LEO form at check-in desk and is personally escorted onto the plane, introduced to flight crew and Air MArshall if there is one. If not, guess who's the Air MArshall for the trip. Now don't get me wrong. I HATE guns...was an ER nurse for 23+ years (no, I don't take my stethescope to the parks but I do carry bandaids!) and saw too much of the bad side of guns. And I'm the world's worst worrier...afraid my loved ones will need to 'use' their weapons. Wish they didn'e need guns at all!

I thought I'd add a comment here, since the police officers posting seem to be taking offense to anyone who says they prefer they leave their weapon at home.

We are a very small town (10,000), and our police officers are not all "top of the class"! Some have accidentally discharged their weapons, maiming or killing people who were armed with flashlights or nothing at all. A couple have been relegated to desk duty because they used their weapon during their off duty to threaten their wives' boyfriends. So, just because someone is a police officer doesn't make me automatically feel comfortable with them carrying a weapon! They are people who are fallible, just like everyone else.

BTW, before you decide my comment is colored by "not liking police officers until you need them" - I'm not someone who has ever been arrested or had any reason to come in contact with the penal system. I'm middle class, pay my taxes and believe that firemen and police officers deserve better pay, so that we get the best quality applicants and training possible.
