I don't remember if it was on here or not, but I recall reading about a woman who put back 2 eggies and ended up with triplets! One of the eggs split! Just to put that tidbit in your mind, too, Carla :) Is DH smiling ear to ear?

Congrats Carla!! How exciting - possibly twins! That is great!! :sunny:

And Elaine....good news for you too! That is excellent!! :cheer2:

You both must be... :cloud9:

I have a few questions.

When we decided to ttc, we just did, I didn't go to the doctor for a check-up or anything, besides my yearly exam. Now I am wondering what exactly they do during those pre-ttc exams, and if there are any blood tests or anything that which would help in ttc or be reasons for m/c and stuff like that. Anyone know? Maybe I still should set one up?

One other strange-ish question.
For the past few years, my hair has been falling out A TON in the shower and when I blow-dry it (luckily I have a ton of hair). When I was buying shampoo last week I was telling the girl, and she said maybe it was hormones. Then I got to thinking too much, (something I usually do) and was wondering if my hormones could be screwed up and maybe why I had the m/c? Am I putting too much thought into this? Should I call my Dr. or just ask him next time I see him, which will probably be after I am pregnant?

LOL, I'll try to call back tomorrow to find out. I really just know it was something high enough for her to say it was really good. I will find out when I can. I just know they assumes all is well and they will see me for the early u/s in a week :)
I think that will mean a lot more to me anyway.

I'm not going to be totally estatic until after that appt, but I am back to the OMG, I am pregnant. And phooey to that First Response group for making me scared with such a faint line!

Ooooh... I liked hearing about the triplets :) That would be fun!!!

mickeybar, I went to my doc in June of 2005 and brought up the whole TTC to her then. I knew it was a few months early, but I'd rather do it then when I knew I would see her instead of right around the holidays. She did no bloodwork, but just chatted with me. I've had no weird history of anything to indicate hormonal problems, and I've been really regular so she assumed I'd be fine.
I have heard that loss of hair can either be related to hormones or thyroid. So I would get that checked out just in case. IMO, it wouldn't hurt.

I need to finish making supper and then we are off to choir practice for church tonight. I am feeling a heck of a lot better than I did two days ago!

Congratulations Carla :) :)

PARTY IN HERE TONIGHT!!!!

I didn't get for a specific TTC exam - I brought it up last spring at my annual vist. She just talked to me and gave me some things to read. No bloodwork or anything -but I have had a history of good health, and normal paps and check-ups. So...maybe it just depends on your history?

And the hair thing....for the past few years, I have had the same thing!!! I can pull out clumps of hair usually every day. I used to have beautiful thick hair, but it has been thinning over the past years. I just figured I had hit another era in my life....combined with years of highlights and blowdrying and straightening!! ;) But now you are making me nervous.....maybe there is a bigger issue??? Oh boy...something new to research! :surfweb:

I know, I know. So scary! I think it's probably nothing, but what if it is? My friend told me the other day that she had to be put on Clomid (sp?) because she was lacking in a hormone, and that with what the girl at the salon told me plus my hair falling out so much, and my m/c.....got me thinking! I am known to be overly nervous/worrywart, etc. though. I think I will just mention it to my Dr. next time I see him. I have no previous health issues either, just didn't know if they did any bloodwork prior to ttc. If you find out any info :surfweb: , let me know!

I just need to chill out!

:Pinkbounc <--------- This is me bouncing up and down for you, Carla!!! :cloud9:

Elaine- that's great that you get to have an u/s next week. And I'm glad that all the numbers have come back looking good!

OMG ladies- all of your good news has done wonders for my mood lately!! :goodvibes It's funny how much you can care about someone without even knowing their last name or where they live! I'm glad we all have that support around here- you are all amazing! :grouphug:

Re: constipation.... NO ONE told me that I wouldn't be able to "go" when I got pregnant. Of course, factor in my severe dehydration, and I was in for a MESS. I had to have an enema at the hospital, otherwise I was going to perforate my bowels. Lovely, huh? It's amazing the absloute lack of modesty I have because of all of this. So, now that I can eat and drink, I make sure to get as much fluids as possible, and I eat high-fiber cereal (Kashi stuff) and lots of fruit. I will NOT have another enema! And if I haven't gone for two days, I take a dose of milk of magnesia (reccommended by my doc) and chase it with a cup of hot cocoa. But, good Lord, I never thought I would be so excited to be "regular." It's like a freakin miracle.

I felt the baby this morning- I felt her the other night, but not much since. But this morning I was visiting my mom in the hospital (she just had surgery), and I felt a little "bump" followed by what felt like popcorn popping in my uterus. It was so neat! (I'm sure it won't be as neat when she's kicking my bladder- :rotfl: ).

Geez- I am so happy and excited I could just :dance3: :yay: :cheer2:  :woohoo:

My HMO practically requires you to have a pre-ttc exam. It's a silly rule, but it did get me in the system so if we have problems I'll be able to get in sooner than I would without the pre-ttc appointment.

Anyway, if you are up to date on pap, etc. and there's no health concerns, it's usually just a conversation where you are told to make sure you are eating a healthy diet and getting enough folic acid (usually by taking a multivitamin, and it doesn't necessarily have to be a prenatal vitamin to have enough folic acid). Your doctor might suggest losing weight if that's an issue, and will answer any questions you have about getting pregnant. It can be a reassuring visit if you have any fears or concerns, but otherwise I don't think it's necessary. My doctor was able to answer some of my questions about risks involved in ttc with DH turning 40 this month and me turning 35 a couple months later, which was helpful, but otherwise there wasn't anything she told me that I didn't already know.

:cheer2: HOORAY!!!! Congrats, Carla & Elaine!!!! Woo hoo!!! :cheer2: I'm partying here for you both!! party:

I didn't have a specific pre-ttc exam. I too just talked to my dr. on a regular appointment. She told me about some good books and gave me a script for a multi-prenatal vit. That made me sick, so now I take an over the counter prenatal instead.

My hair dresser said that your body change every so many years and and can include your hair. Also, hair goes through growing and sheding times, according to her.

i didn't do an official TTC appt- but I did just go in to my OB/Gyn and let her know I was ready to start trying soon but that I had concerns about my fertility. I told her I had been off the pill for 5 years and we never used any protection- no condoms, no pull out method etc. Still no 'accidents'. We weren't actively trying in those 5 years, but we weren't trying to stop it. that's a long time without anything happening. So she started doing some exams, had me chart etc. That was the extent of my TTC appt. The ob/gyn also put me on clomid for 4 months, continued charting and monitored via a few u/s for follies. she also ordered a die test, but that's it. She didn't seem as informed as I wanted her to be, so i started seeing the specialist who i love.

Elaine- here's you some sticky baby dust! glad you got good numbers- just keep up the good thoughts and congrats!

kelly- sorry about AF-she's a well, you know! :guilty:

Carla- yeah for you again! so how early can they tell if there are multiples? I was wondering that, since i had 7 follies every month just on 50mg of clomid. i'd love to have twins. i can't wait to hear more about your pregnancy!!! i'm so excited for you! :Pinkbounc  :cheer2:

Newbies- welcome!!!

other topics- stretchmarks- haven't even thought about it- i am just too hung up on even getting pregnant and having one stick to think beyond much more than that.

Names- well of course i have thought of that for years- kind of like your wedding, you dream up names when you are a teenager! For a girl- i like Samantha Jane or Samantha Moira (like Wendy's middle name in Peter Pan, my favorite movie/book!). For boys, i like William (Will). I know, why do i like these days of our lives names (sammy/will!)?? :rotfl2: :confused3 :rotfl2:

Hey y'all -

Just wanted to throw this out there. If you are TTC, or if you are already pregnant, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure you take your folic acid NOW.

Folic acid, when taken in adequate doses early in pregnancy has been shown to greatly reduce birth defects of the brain and spinal cord. We are talking about spina bifida, anencephaly, BAD things here. You should take at least 400 mcs per day. If you can't stomach the prenatals, get thee to Target and buy yourself some folic acid supplements. You can also get it in cereals and pasta, but really, cover yourself and at least take that 400 mcg supplement every day.

You need to take it very early on, because that is when the brain and spinal cord is forming from the neural tube. You need to take it while TTC because you don't want to wait until you know you are pregnant to start taking it. The March of Dimes states that if all women took it, up to 70 percent of neural tube defects could be prevented!

They didn't know all this 16 years ago when my aunt gave birth to a stillborn boy with spina bifida at 28 weeks. If they had - things may have turned out differently.

So ladies - TAKE YOUR FOLIC ACID! Thank you :)

Carla - I am thrilled for you, girlfriend! :cheer2: :cheer2: Lots of happy and positive thoughts coming your way.

Elaine - so glad to hear that everything looks good. Lots of sticky baby dust for you, too!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Just check and see that it has at least 400 mcg of folic acid - it probably does. If it does, you're covered!!

According to my doc, no you don't need to do it in addition to it, as long as the multi-vitamin has 400mcg in it. Like I said, this is according to my doc. I was never put on pre-natals, and they still tell me that so far my one a day is good for now. I buy the Target brand or Walmart brand since they are so cheap :)

LOL @ the Days names... my DH is convinced that I like Antonio because of my love of Antonio Banderas :rotfl:

Just wanted to update--we are having a boy.

I had a trip to the ER last night due to AF bleeding!!! Thankfully--looking back on it...the AF bleed was about 3 hours and it was spotting before and following that totalled 9 hours. U/S showed healthy baby and placenta--with some blood pooling behind the placenta..I sign of a tear that Doc today said wasn't too big of a deal as long as the bleed stops and I rest. I am greenlighted for my trip and he said I can look forward to dark spotting and brown spotting as any clots that form are reabsorbed. So crisis is hopefully averted and this little man will be grounded the day he is born ;).

Off to watch Grey's Anatomy now and get a good dose of Dr. McDreamy.
(we had a good dose of Nurse McDreamy last night--nothing like a friend willing to accompany you to the ER AFTER she had two martini's--we had a regular comedy central going last night. And YUM on that nurse--though he has a girlfriend. :( ;) ;)).

And the little man likes to do karate kicks.

From "that" view--one leg was going up...going down..going up..going down...now you can see what I am...now you can't...now you can...now you can't. LOL!

I had friends offer to take my girls today and tomorrow they are taking them to the homeschool co-op and the park afterwards for me and hubby comes home on Saturday. :)

And ladies--a home doppler--if you can spare $20 a month and not get it too early (it will drive you crazy in panic as early on finding the h/b is difficult)..it is a great anxiety reliever in a situation such as this. I can check on him regularly and listen to him swat at me (he hates the doppler) and dodge the doppler. Oh--we can hear the h/b too when he lets me. :)

And Carla--I was trying to find an updated post and will just have to comment based on the posts of everyone else and say congrats on the "official" verification of the pregnancy! (I assume since everyone is mentioning #'s that you had good beta's!).

Prayers for a sticky for you and to all the other newly preggo mamas....and much love and luck to those in the 2 ww or waiting to be able to try again this cycle or future cycles.
