Any Little House on the Prairie Fans?

I love watching that on TV....I'm a huge fan. My favorite shows are from the time Almonzo comes to town until they get married. I love watching her fall in love and the flirting etc. Good clean romance. I want to get that season on DVD, but someone said here the DVDs aren't that good, does anyone have them and like them? Are they the same as the TV show?

How is it terrible? I had been considering picking up a few, but if they're that bad, forget it.

In short, many reviews have pointed to the older VHS releases to having better picture and audio quality. Some episodes are even missing scenes!

Sadly the people who hold the rights have given these a "public domain" type release but priced them like it has been fully restored and remastered.

If they ever get a price drop I may pick them up, but I'm holding out in hopes that they will get the proper attention someday.

Funny you should ask. Last time we were at my MIL's she mentioned how they had started watching the reruns and what a great show it was. She recounted the plot of a show they had watched a few nights before and actually had tears in her eyes because the plot had moved her so. She inspired me to look for the show. I had never watched it when it was on originally, don't know why, but I have seen a few now and I really like it.

I used to love that show!!!! I haven't seen it in awhile though. My mom went to their musuem and she couldn't believe how tiny they all were!!! She said it was really a neat thing to see!

I have a couple of the Seasons on DVD, and though they aren't perfect, they are still well worth the money. I wish they didn't cut things, but since I don't know every scene by heart I really didn't notice.

Oh this is my all time favorite show from when I was a kid! I love that they play reruns now. My DD7 thinks its hysterical, that people were so different than. One of my favorite episodes is when one Christmas everyone is trying to sneak around and buy everyone gifts, even there there isn't enough money, they all manage to get each other gifts, and Pa tries to buy Ma a stove, while Laura has already sold her pony to Nellie, so she can buy Ma the same stove. I cried like a baby at the end of that episode. Also, this may sound strange, but Pa was my first crush!

I was hoping the DVDs would all be straight from the TV shows without cutting scenes. I'll probably get them anyway from Amazon.com. Harriet is definitely the best "villain" isn't she. There's something about this show that just never gets old for me. Lindsay Dunn 228, you go girl! :) Thanks all for your comments. Anyone think Adam is also incredibly handsome?

BTW - the missing scenes were not cut as much as lost during the production process.

Sadly it happens all the time. Sometimes it's only audio drop outs, but sometimes entire scenes are lost. Back in the Laser Disc days it happened even more often.

Yes, I'm a fan! I faithfully watched the show when it first aired and still love to watch the reruns.

My DS was given the LH set of books when he was small. About every other year or so, I reread the entire set during the winter months. I don't know how many times I've read them but it's a lot. We have been to DeSmet, South Dakota to the Ingall's homestead out on the prairie and to the different places in town where they had a store and lived (during the Long Winter), also Ma and Pa's house where they lived their final years. We have also been to Rocky Ridge Farm in Missouri where Laura, Almonzo, and Rose moved after all the hardships they endured in South Dakota. Getting to see the places Laura described in the books was very special since I'm such a big fan.

I'm jealous ;) I would love to see these places, I even bought a Little House travel guide. One of these days, although every time I think about going somewhere else on vacation WDW calls to me :teeth:

I love Little House! I have a lot of 'favorite' episodes. The one where Laura wants to attract a boy at school and puts apples in her dress :rotfl: cracks me up. And the camping trip with the Olesons is definitely a favorite. I also like the later ones, where the Olesons adopt Nancy. The one where they convince her to dress up like a beautiful mermaid for the dunk tank, and Mrs. Oleson lines up for her shot... :rotfl:

What a great show! I wish there were more shows like that around.

I like the show and watch some of the reruns. I like the older shows more.

I recently saw for the first time the show where Albert came home to die. Geez Louise, I sat sat there sobbing. DS12 came in a just shook his head and handed me a tissue.

I'm a huge Little House Fan - always was. I still have the books from when I was little and am trying to get early editions of all of them. I have a 1890something edition of Little House in the Big Woods so far.

I love everything about it,from the show too the boooks..The thread about it on Television without pity is one of the funniest things I've ever read

I saw where you mentioned this on another thread. I looked around the website, but I didn't look on the forums. I need to go check it out.

It's in the Drama Section... Try starting at around page 500

I haven't read all the posts, although I will come back later & read.

I'm probably the biggest "Little House" fan there is...one summer my daughter & I are going to travel out to some of the "Little House" sites & tour them. I've got all the books written about the real Ingalls family.

Gotta go make dinner...

Since you are the biggest fan, I'm posing this question to you: I was up last weekend around 3 or 4 in the morning and the episode where Almanzo's older dying brother comes to visit was on. It was Part I of II and of course they only showed Part I. What happened during Part II? Did they adopt Almanzo's niece? Great show! I'm going to make an effort to try to catch some more episodes. :thumbsup2

Although I probably should be a "closet" fan (growing up as a black kid in the inner city :) ), I can proudly say that "I am not ashamed to be a Little House" fan. I quote from the shows all the time. I used to always say "I hate ya, ya know" (Nancy said this to Willie at the end of one show). My favorites are "The Lord is my Shepherd". There's just something about the whole "undying faith in God" thing that gets me every time. Another one is three part episode where Albert falls in love with the girl that's being emotionally abused by her father (for growing up too soon) and eventually is raped by a man in town. She gets pregnant and Albert offers to marry her, but she dies escaping her attacker. Heartwrenching! Didn't find out until much later that Laura and Willie were actually brother and sister in real life.
