Does anyone have info on the proposed Orlando Light Rail System? That would be so wonderful :bounce: to someday be able to take a train from MCO to Disney!

According to CentralFloridaRail.com, it is all still in the early planning stages.

Last thing I heard was that it was up to the Florida Legislature now to provide the funding for construction to begin.

The Central Florida Light Rail Transit project is one of several proposed rail projects in the Orlando area. As far as I know, the proposed Light Rail route served neither MCO nor WDW. It's been an on-again, off-again project, according to news stories over the past few years.

A different rail project — the Florida High Speed Rail System — includes plans for stations at MCO and WDW, as part of its Orlando-to-Tampa route.

For any rail system in Central Florida, the big problem will be to get funding.

Thanks, Werner. I do not live in the area, so don't have a strong opinion about any of the proposals. From the lack of response to my original question, this appears to be a heated issue on both sides. I was not aware of that.

IMHO, considering the current traffic problems in and around central FL, it's too bad everyone can't support a mass transit proposal of some sort. Surely those involved in the planning are looking at other cities with a successful commuter train system. I lived in Sacramento when their light rail system began. It was controversial, but last I heard, the ridership is doing well and it helps with some of the traffic congestion in the capital.

CBR 2004!!!

I know that the High Speed rail authority is meeting about the budget. With the cost of building it and the estimated cost of running it they would go broke within 2 years, if even that long.
