Any Interest in a ABC ROLODEX and -SURPRISE swap Idea in post 40

I will be hosting this swap along with the Surprise swap Are ya all ready for some surprises

I was thinking about the surprise swap and how to "shake things up a bit" The idea I keep going back to is .. When each person signs up they just say how many groups they want to be in. When I swap them out I will random draw you the same number back so you will NOT get one of your own back *unless you want one of course*

What do you all think of that idea?

I have been painting for 3 days, I think the fumes are making me stupid. I don't understand.

So I sign up for 3 groups. I make 6 sets of 3 different things -- say 6 Mickey Paper piecings, 6 Donalds, and 6 plutos. I mail you my 3 sets. I get back 18 sets, but none of my own?

No - say you want to be in 3 "groups". You will make 6 items for each group.. you get 6 random elements back for every "group" you sign up for.

When I go to sort I will randomly pull out 6 baggies for your first group. 6 baggies for ur second set and 6 for your last set. This way your getting 18 different random elements and you wont get one of ur own back so you will get 1 new elements for each of your elements.

I'm still going to have it to where each person makes 6 of each element. That way when I do the "random sort" you will get 6 elements back per "group".

Am I making any sense or only to me? lol

I LOVE the Surprise swap idea (I would just make 7 of each to keep one for myself and not mail it)!!

But I don't get the rolodex - they are beautiful - but what do you do with them?

I'm a 'puter girl so all my info is 'virtual' Haven't had a rolodex in 10 years.

I have my rololdex sitting next to my phone. It does not have any phone numbers( because I put them in a safe place) in it but it looks cool I want one for my desk at work.

Most of my stuff is digital too, but my rolodex is just for my DIS friends. That way I can find them and take them where I need to take them (the PO, the kitchen, wherever... )

Is that a challenge? Do I have to make 10 groups? You know, ten groups doesn't sound too bad (I have 19 for MK) but 60 elements sounds nuts!

So the surprise for us is we don't know who or what we will be getting. Before we knew who, but not what. Sounds good.

I am concerned for you though. What if you get to the last group and you have duplicate elements left? You would have to search through other packages to try and switch it up. Yikes!


One more question -- say I sign up for 1 group (not very likely!). I have enough stash to make 4 pirate elements and 2 princess elements -- can I send in those 6 elements as one group? I like the idea of using up my left over bits.

Yup you could use up ur bits I'm really trying to utilize and work from stashes for those on the ban wagon. I know when you put it by element it seems like alot. Groups are the same it just don't look like it..lol.. Scary how many elements we make isn't it.

I've thought about the groupings and i think this will actually be pretty simple. What I will be doing is have them all set out and sorted by who made what.

EXAMPLE: 123SA signs up for 10 groups, so she will make 60 elements. I will have all of her elements in one pile. I will go to other groups so she don't get her own items back. This seems to be the easiest way around that. So really this will be more or less of an element per element swap.

I am holding to the multiples of 6 this way we don't have any over flow.

EXAMPLE Sign ups will look like this.. (thank you ladies for my using you as examples)

123SA - 10 groups
katdisney - 10 groups
SusieStone - 10 Groups
hopemax - 5 groups
SIOH - 4 groups
missesdisney - 8 groups
B&MB - 5 groups
MickeyTeacher - 6 groups
AWM - 7 groups

Do you all want the rolodex moved to the fall? it does not matter to me and we do have Susan's big ABC swap coming as well. I know the surprise swap is generally large. I'm good with whatever you all want to do

Well -- since you are asking, I would like it moved out of April -- August is completely empty on the calendar. That being said, I am fine with whatever you decide.

I think moving things around will be better. we have a few big swaps coming up and I don't want to stretch everyone to thin.
