Any ideas? My backpack/purse was lost/stolen at Orlando airport

I had my bag with all my money, 2 credit cards, boarding passes, my driver's license and most importantly; my camera and flip camera with all our pictures and video from our wonderful trip gone. I am not confident in the Orlando airport security/lost and found system. No one seems to care very much. I was passed around several times (even to Hartford baggage, despite the fact I told them I know it was lost before I got on the plane). I know I had it after security and I must have left it on the tram or someone took it when we were sitting at the gate for JetBlue because we had no other stops since the security check point where I know I had it. I would appreciate any ideas besides lost and found. (Apparently TSA is of no help, they told me to call lost and found) JetBlue staff (including the Supervisor) at Orlando airport were horrific. (The Supervisor would not help and outright said "It's not my fault you lost your bag" I am not sure why she reacted so rudely other than right before she said that, she looked at another staff member, rolled her eyes and said "I can't take this anymore". I am assuming there were several complaints that day because I had no idea what she was talking about) Anyway, I really don't care if someone keeps everything, I just want the chip from my camera and my $99 flip camera to have my pictures and video. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear it. Did you file a police report? They should have security footage of the tram and possibly the gate area.

I would consider it gone.

Honestly, TSA has nothing what so ever to do with lost or stolen items at all so there is no point in bothering them about it unless it disappeared in the security checkpoint.

Airport lost & found is about it. Security is not going to make much effort to track it down nor are the police.

Honestly, from the way you are describing it, it was not a purse snatching/theft in the eyes of the police, but that you left it somewhere and don't remember where. They won't even review security camera footage with for something that vague.

Lost & found is about your only hope, though a police report woudl be needed for any possible insurance claim.

No one suggested to call the police and I did not think to do that. As far as where I lost it (or someone took it), yes, I do know that it had to happen in 1 of 2 places - and I know exactly where those places are. One was the tram and I know exactly which side and car, and the other is where I sat in the airport at gate 105 side A. However, no one seemed to care but thanks for the input.

Did you try calling the phone and sending a text? Chances are someone took what they wanted and trashed the rest, but who knows where. I agree lost and found at the airport is our best bet. Good luck and I am sorry this happened to you.

Keep trying lost and found and you may get lucky- always worth a try, but there is unfortunately a good chance it is gone for good.

Dont' forget to check your card statments in case someone used one before you were able to cancel them.

Best of luck and hope someone turns it in.

Well hopefully in the spirit of giving someone will have the Christmas spirit and turn it in fully intact! I'm a firm believer not everyone is bad out there...2separate trips to MK I left my very expensive camera in it's napsack case on a bench (my CC was in there too!) and BOTH times someone turned it into lost and found. I left it again at Sea World and no one touched it..I also lost my hat and sunglasses at Aqualitca and even they were turned in. By the end of the trip hubby was going to tie everything around my neck he was so sick of me leaving stuff behind! :lmao:

Anywho, don't give up quite yet....you just never know.
Best of luck!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone. It's the thought of losing all my pictures and videos that is making me sick. It was such an unusual bag. I think if someone took the money out and dumped the bag, security should have noticed - isn't that what all this intrusive security is about???

Umm...no. The "instrusive security" is about preventing terrorist from bringing weapons onto the plane. They (the TSA) have nothing to do with finding lost/stolen bags.

It shouldn't be too late to file a police report. I'm not sure how often they re-write the security tapes, but the sooner you call the police the better (well, the better the chances that the tapes haven't been over-written).

I'd keep checking with lost and found as well.

There's always announcements in the airport about unattended bags. I would think if she left it laying on the tram or if someone found it, took what they wanted and dumped it that security should have picked it up.

Probably not. Unfortunately, the police have very little interest in this type of loss and probably won't do anything.

OP, I'm sorry you lost your photos and videos.

Except they probably threw it right in the closest trash can if that was the case (a theft, I mean).

What they worry about in airports is that there is a bomb in an unattended bag, that's why they keep making announcements about unattended bags. Chances are the bag did not sit where she left it very long for them to notice it or if it was stolen, they dumped it somewhere out of site. I don't know how big the backpack was for it to be stuff into a trash can.

Being an ex LEO I am confused by this statement. Is there very little a LEO can do? Is there a extremely low probablility that your items will be found? Yes to both of these questions but to state that there is no interest is not true.

These items are investigated as much as possible, that be through seeing if a charge was attempted on your CC or whatever. Now I will say in instances like this you may have to be a little more proactive than one would think but if there is a lead to follow up on the LEO will.

I'm totally confused by your post. If I'm reading your post correctly, you went through security and had your boarding pass & ID because you had to have it to get into the security line. I assume you put your boarding passes and ID back into your bag and put it into the containers to go through the x-ray machines. Is it from this point forward that you do not know if you have your bag and that is why you called TSA from the gate? You took the tram, walked to the gate, sat and waited to board your flight then discovered you had misplaced your bag when it was time to board and you didn't have your boarding pass? Did you stop at a bathroom, stroll through a store, grab food or coffee, etc..? It sounds like you were close to boarding time for your plane when you realized you had lost your bag and @ that point you had to board your plane and did not have time to retrace your steps in search of your bag and still make your flight.
Since your ID was in your bag if it is found by an honest person it will be turned into MCO and ultimately returned to you. If it was found by a dishonest person or stolen by someone as it came through the x-ray machine, on the tram or @ the gate you won't see it again. Cancel your credit cards and keep close track of your financial affairs -because your ID was in your purse you are @ increased risk for ID theft. I had a purse stolen from my office once, the empty wallet was mailed to me with my DL and the picture of my newborn son in it several weeks later. That picture was worth far more to me than the purse & money I never saw again - sorry this happened to you.

I am hoping for exactly what happened to you - all I want is my pictures at this point. My license was in the bag so I am just hoping someone will take the $10 SD card out of the camera (with all my pictures) and mail it back to me. (I cancelled my credit cards immediately and they were not used so that is not an issue anymore) As of today, lost and found said it was not turned in.

I would contact orlando police they are the securty for mco and they would be the one that remove bags if left unattened. They are the one you will also need to fill out the police report with since it happened in orlando.

With tens of thousands of people passing through those terminals every day, it is unlikely you will see any part of your belongings again. Several points, many of which have already been made:

TSA is there to screen passengers and luggage only. They have absolutely no authority or duty to assist you in finding your things. True, they could have acted more professionally, but they aren't able to abandon their present duties to assist you in your search.

Airport security is limited in what they can do, as well. If your things are gone by the time they search the areas, all they can do is give you the number to lost and found so that you can keep checking to see if anyone turned it in. As someoneelse mentioned previously, you can file a theft report with the PD that covers the airport.

Unfortunately, the most likely scenario is that someone grabbed your bag and headed to the nearest restroom to go through it in private, incorporate the items he or she wanted into his or her own bag, toss the rest, then board a flight. Any other scenario and you would have heard from the good samaritan or the lost and found already.

Sorry.

oh... and if you think that an unusual bag is something that someone should have noticed in a trash can at the airport... think again. People toss a ton of things into trash cans; bags, purses, shopping bags, clothes, tableware (no, not kidding), toiletries, entire bottles of drinks, bottles of wine. You'd be amazed.

I reported that spam post immediately above mine.
