My dd's Ipod touch got liqued on it the other day. It worked a little bit afterwards (the same day), but not now. Is there any hope for it to start working again, or does anyone have any suggestions? I am so upset about this. It was actually in my purse and I had a bottled soda sitting in there also while I came inside carrying lots of groceries. The soda must have tipped over and the lid wasnt on good. I normally dont have her ipod in there, but put it in my purse because dd had brought it on our car ride to school that morning and I had to have the oil changed in the car and didnt want to leave it in the car to be (possibly) taken. Maybe that would have been the safer option:eek: UGHHHHH....... Im afraid my only option is to buy another one, but thought I would ask.

Pretty sure it is fried.

Did you have a warranty? like square trade?

If so, they will cover it. You mail it into them and they will either send you a check or issue an amazon credit (-50 dollar copay).

No...but for future reference...where do you get this warranty?

Try putting it in a bag with uncooked rice to absorb the moisture. Dd has dropped her Ipod touch and several cell phones in pop, toilets, etc. It usually works!

That is the one thing I did try. I put it in a tupperware container and covered it with rice...although I didnt do it right away since it appeared to be working after I wiped it off:sad2:

Keep it in the rice for a few days. I have lost all hope before and just leaving it in the rice longer helped. Mix it up in the container every so often so the rice that has absorbed the moisture already can be replaced by the drier rice.

You have to leave it in the rice for a few days for it to work. DD15 did that with her cell phone, dropped it in a toilet, we were driving from CA to ID for my oldest DD's wedding at the time so no rice on hand. I told DD15 to leave it off and don't touch it until we got to her sister's, once we got there DD24 had rice in a bag for the phone, we took the battery out (not an option with Apple products) and put both in the rice, we left it there for a day and it works fine today......that happened in August. If we hadn't upgraded DD15's phone last month she'd still be using it. :)

On another note, this is why I buy the protection plan from Best Buy (we buy the majority of our electronics from BB), because they cover the item even if it gets wet!

Bowl of real rice, not instant, uncovered for 48*. DD's iTouch feel in the sink while I was doing dishes and it survived.

My DD's iPod was washed in the sink by her little brother because he thought it was dirty. lol I mean like it was so wet that when I held it up water poured out of it. I thought for sure it was lost. Sealed it in a ziploc with rice for about a week and it finally worked. It doesn't hold the same battery life it had before, but at least it works. :woohoo: My only advice would be to leave her Touch in rice AT LEAST 48 hours.. longer is better. And resist the urge to turn it on to check if it's working. You can do more damage that way. The longer you can leave it untouched, the better. Good luck! Hope it all works out for you & your daughter. :goodvibes

ETA.. I forgot to mention that before I stuck it in rice, I shook all the water off and used canned air to try to blow as much of the moisture out as possible (specifically blowing near the charge port, headphone jack, etc). Not sure if using the canned air helped or not, but worse case scenario is I just wasted part of the can for nothing. :)

The key is once it gets wet to not try to start it or turn it back on. Put it in a bag of rice or bag of silica gel packets (we searched the house and found a bunch lol.) For at least 48hrs. Still worth a shot. Good luck.

Okay...thanks for all the positive comments. Back in the rice it goes!

My fear is that it got fried when you turned it back on and it worked. You shouldn't have turned it back on until after it had been in the rice or silica absorption bag. You are also dealing with a sticky drink that leaves a residue. Water is an easier liquid to save a device from. Good luck.

If the rice doesn't work here is what my brother did to save his iPhone (64 GB 4S no less which he'd had less than 1 month) after he forgot it was in his coat pocket and washed it. :laundy:

He found out the maximum heat tolerance for the iPhone (not sure where he got this but I think he called Apple), then put his iPhone in the food dehydrator at a couple of degrees below that maximum temperature for a couple of days. It worked. :thumbsup2

And if it doesn't make the ipod work and her ipod is still under warranty the food dehydrator trick will reset the dropped in liquid indicator so the warranty replacement will go thru.:goodvibes

you can take it to the Apple store and tell the truth.

My DS bent some pins in the bottom of his itouch. (I think he yanked it out of the dock too hard.) I brought it in, explained what I thought happened (it was working fine except it was no longer recognized by the dock anymore and he loves that.)

No questions asked he handed me a new one and I was on my way.

Good luck!

My son cracked a screen on one of his iPods (dropped it on cement) and we brought it into Apple and told them what happened. They said they would replace it, 'just this once'. I think that the sales people have discretion when it comes to warranty/repair issues.

Silica gel (from a craft store - used for drying flowers) works faster than rice. Make sure to take off any case that might be on the iPod before you bury it in the rice or silica and leave it be for a few days.

I think the Apple store employees do have some leeway in replacing items. They replaced my DD's ipod after the screen cracked. She was polite and honest about how it broke. (She had something in her pocket, slid the iPod in without realizing the thing was pressing against the screen.)

If you bought it with a credit card, it might be covered by their replacement plan - contact the card company. You'll need the receipt to prove you bought it.

I cannot recommend Apple enough. A few weeks ago my 6 yr old dd dropped my not even 3 mo old ipad 2 and it cracked. Took it to Apple. They did question me and weren't going to replace it but I did ask since I did research on the net and had read they do give the gesture as a good faith thing just ONE time and it's usually a refurb one but it was awesome and I LOVE apple for it. Got a brand new ipad that works wonderful!

I too will voice in with a glowing Apple review. My DD gave mine a water glass bath and I took it to my store to ask what my options were, fully planning to pay a steep fixing cost. They told me "just this once" as well and I had a new to me refurbished ITouch within 15 minutes with no charges.

I wish I had an Apple store near us...I dont even know where the closest one would be. I dont know if I called them if I would get the same customer service. Guess I will check their site to see where the closest store is.
