Forget that idea....the closest store is about 3 hours away

I'll just also throw out my "it worked for us" with the rice trick. My son left his iPod Touch outside on the playset and it rained. When he finally remembered where it was, it tried to come on, but no luck. I stuck it in a bowl of rice for a day or two. Within a day, it was turning on but nothing would happen, so it went back into the rice for awhile. Within a 2-3 days, it was functioning normally. That was last summer and it's been fine ever since.
I was very happy that I had a Square Trade warranty on the thing and I had paid extra for the "accidental damage" clause. My son still doesn't know I have that warranty and it was a good lesson in responsibility for him, as he thought it was going to be unusable and we told him we would not buy him a replacement.
If all else fails call CS and find out what they can do for you. Ask about trade in value. My daughters old touch died, it was several years old, they offered her a $100 off replacing it. That was in the store and I know they do not have the same rules as the call in support but it is worth the call.
I did get my iPad replaced after I dropped it from the roof of my car onto concreatebut it took three visits to the store to get that offer.
Good luck.![]()
Are you guys taking your broken stuff to an actual Apple store? My ipod nano broke this morning. No clue what happened but the on/off button won't push in and the ipod won't turn on. Our apple store is a ways away but we have an authorized apple care store called MacAuthority. Do you think I might get the "one time only" treatment there?
No...but for future reference...where do you get this warranty?
2 days ago I ran a load of laundry. It was a weird mix so I put it through the spin twice. When moving the clothes out falls DS 64 gb Ipod. DH had a fit but we have it now sitting in a tupperware of very expensive rice.
I would love for DS to have it on the trip but I don't want to turn it on until it has sat in the rice for a good long time. You all have me wondering if we should bring it to the apple store and see if they could apply the one time?
Just a warning about Square Trade. They do not cover loss or theft. They do cover cracked screens, etc. Live and learn.
They only cover accidental damage if you buy that extra rider though - it's not part of the basic policy. But we always buy that rider.
