Any hope for dd's IPod Touch?...liqued damage

Forget that idea....the closest store is about 3 hours away:sad2:

Are you guys taking your broken stuff to an actual Apple store? My ipod nano broke this morning. No clue what happened but the on/off button won't push in and the ipod won't turn on. Our apple store is a ways away but we have an authorized apple care store called MacAuthority. Do you think I might get the "one time only" treatment there?

That one time only thing did not happen for me with my ipad, kids dropped it and glass broke when it was 2 weeks old.

So, I wouldn't gamble on it as a sure thing.

I'll just also throw out my "it worked for us" with the rice trick. My son left his iPod Touch outside on the playset and it rained. When he finally remembered where it was, it tried to come on, but no luck. I stuck it in a bowl of rice for a day or two. Within a day, it was turning on but nothing would happen, so it went back into the rice for awhile. Within a 2-3 days, it was functioning normally. That was last summer and it's been fine ever since.

I was very happy that I had a Square Trade warranty on the thing and I had paid extra for the "accidental damage" clause. My son still doesn't know I have that warranty and it was a good lesson in responsibility for him, as he thought it was going to be unusable and we told him we would not buy him a replacement.

This is good to hear! I still have DD's in the bag of rice...I figure we may take it out tomorrow or Sunday to see if it is working. I REALLY hope it is as I dont want to have to replace it, but it was my fault:sad2:

If all else fails call CS and find out what they can do for you. Ask about trade in value. My daughters old touch died, it was several years old, they offered her a $100 off replacing it. That was in the store and I know they do not have the same rules as the call in support but it is worth the call.

I did get my iPad replaced after I dropped it from the roof of my car onto concreate :headache: but it took three visits to the store to get that offer.

Good luck.:wizard:

I've had my nano get stuck a couple of times and there is a way to reset it. I don't want to tell you wrong so try googling "reset ipod nano" and it will tell you which two keys you hold at the same time to reset.

No...but for future reference...where do you get this warranty?

I love squaretrade. It is the only warranty I buy for my electronics. I have 3 warranties with them. One for my iPad, one for my Kindle Fire and one for my iPod. They are cheaper than the store warranties and for just a little bit extra they cover accidental damage. And if you join their page on facebook they put out 30% off coupons quite often.

Their website address is: www.squaretrade.com

They insure all types of electronic devices. They are, in a word, awesome!!

my daughters nano got washed. we gave up hope but threw it in a bag of rice and forgot about it. it worked for several years later (until another accident).

i've also gotten the "one time" treatment at the apple store. you can get a great genius or a bad one.

Wow, I had no idea Apple was so good with customer service! Ds11 cracked the glass on his ipod touch less than 1 week old. Dh found a company on ebay that replaces cracked glass for $40. We were a bit leary to ship it to a stranger in CA but he gets thousands of glowing reviews. So we wrapped it in 2 panels of corrugated cardboard, put it in a padded envelope from USPS flat rate which notifies us by email that it arrived at destination, and took a leap of faith. In less than 1 week it was back, looking & working like new.
I don't know his ebay name but could find out from dh if anyone is interested.

Of course, within a month ds cracked it again, just slightly, so we got him an extra rugged type case for it, big & chunky type.

We have an Apple store in Philly so we'll keep that as a last resort.

fwiw, I started saving a little ziploc baggie of those silica gel things that come with shoes, vitamins, prescription meds, etc. I put some in our empty luggage so it doesn't get musty odors. It's good to hear of another great use for them. :goodvibes

Just a warning about Square Trade. They do not cover loss or theft. They do cover cracked screens, etc. Live and learn.

2 days ago I ran a load of laundry. It was a weird mix so I put it through the spin twice. When moving the clothes out falls DS 64 gb Ipod. DH had a fit but we have it now sitting in a tupperware of very expensive rice.

I would love for DS to have it on the trip but I don't want to turn it on until it has sat in the rice for a good long time. You all have me wondering if we should bring it to the apple store and see if they could apply the one time?

Oh goodness!! I hope it dries up and works! I just took DD's out of the rice and it didnt work for us:sad2: but hers didnt get in it right away...maybe since yours went straight in the rice it will. And have a GREAT trip! A 1 day ticker....Im JEALOUS:goodvibes

They only cover accidental damage if you buy that extra rider though - it's not part of the basic policy. But we always buy that rider.

Well, I think I have exhausted all my possibilities:sad2: The rice didnt work. I have called my credit card company. They dont cover anything with liqued damage unless it was a busted pipe in the house that spewed water on my ipod:confused3. I also went online and chatted with an Apple worker who gave me another number to call...and they couldnt help me either. There is no Apple store within 3 hours of my house either. Guess I will have to drag the credit card out of my wallet and buy dd another Ipod since it was my fault:rolleyes1
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and help. I gave it my best shot, but cant do anything but order another one:eek:

Sorry OP! I dropped my son's Kindle on the floor and killed the screen - and hadn't purchased a warranty for it - so I had to shell out my $$ for a replacement. So I know how you feel! (The new one has a warranty with the accidental damage coverage - I highly recommend that from Square Trade!).

I am glad so many were able to get a second chance from the Apple STore. Just wanted to thow in another "it didnt happen for me" story to the mix though. My dd dropped her brand new ipod on a friend's tile floor on 12/27, two days after she got it. We were discussing how we needed to get a good case just minutes before she dropped it and it instantly shattered!!! Took it into the store and they said the standard replacement fee was $99. So at least it wasnt another $250 but it wasnt free as so many had happen.

Accidental coverage is automatically included for iPod touches and iPads with squaretrade.

They only cover accidental damage if you buy that extra rider though - it's not part of the basic policy. But we always buy that rider.
