Any Good Neighbors to avoid?

We've always stayed on site, so researching Good Neighbors is overwhelming me!

Family of 5 (3 little folks who hate walking), are there any G.N. hotels we should avoid in the DL area? We're hoping for something within walking distance. I've heard horror stories about bed bugs around DL hotels?! Fridge in room is a must, micro, DVD player and coffee maker would be awesome. Pool is a must. Continental breakfast would be good.

I've got a list of recommended hotels already, but I want to know if there's anything to steer clear of. Overpriced, dirty, doesn't sleep 5, far for walking, etc.

Menage. The walk is one block- the longest block known to man. Very bizarre hotel, the lobby had club music playing very loudly at all hours. Many rooms have still not been renovated, 3 years in.

At $25-$30 a night Extended Stays America is fine, with a pretty good location behind Gardenwalk and not an unheard of walk. But for any more then that it is pretty dang spartan.

BTW I have never dealt with bedbugs in Anaheim and I have stayed a quite a few different places.

I don't think I have ever seen a bedbug....but..they couldn't be any worse than some of the cockroaches I have met...being from Bakersfield...where they grow them big..I have seen some huge ones..lol

I have never run into any bed bugs either. My sister stayed at Motel 8 recently and it sounded like she probably wouldn't go back there.

Yeah, we stayed at the Super 8 next to the Gardenwalk and I would have to really think about it before staying again. It was cheaper than any of the other hotels around there and was still within walking distance (barely) but if I could manage at all to spend a little more money I would stay some where else. If that was all I could afford and that was the only way to be able to go to DLR then I would stay again. There was just a lot of little issues that I found to be unpleasant. They do have a free breakfast though. Not the best but it's food and it's free. I brought my own cheerios and used their milk and bowls.

Desert Inn and Suites C-1 family my son got bitten quite a bit by some. Funny thing, nobody else did. YOu could see the blood drops on the sheets. I called and they took it seriously. said they have a company that comes out and sprays etc. These things happen. you can have that at a 5 star in SF Never had a subsuquiint issue with them.

I have seen that hotel pushed by the name your own price sites. IMO it looks creepy :scared1: it alone is a reason I am skeptical about the lower star bidding on those sites, wouldnt want to get stuck there!

Heard bad things on here about Quality Inn (though reviews on that have been better lately). A few people here have had problems with Carousel, Desert Inn, and BWPPI. But then others love them and have had only good experiences there.

HoJo consistently gets the best reviews, although it's about a 5 minute walk past those other hotels that are right at the crosswalk. It was worth the extra 5 minutes for us; the pool and water-play area for kids were great, the rooms were very big, beds heavenly comfortable, fridge, microwave, free internet, free parking. If you can get the Entertainment rate at $59-79 a night that's even better http://www.hojoanaheim.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14 , but I'd stay there even without it.

For more reviews, go to tripadvisor.com and put in the name of the hotel you're looking up.

Also be sure and look at these maps to see what's close, in walking distance. There are links to each one so you can check availability, price and amenities. http://www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/DisneylandLinkMap.html http://www.accommodationsneardisney.com/Disneyland/default.asp

Hope that helps! :)

the reviews on fairfield have been awesome for months, in fact a lot of hojo folks are now going to fairfield inn. I stayed at the carousel, we did well there to and it was clean, we also stayed in what is now called the menage... it was not the menage then, and we loved it. the rooms were so clean and nice, but again that was before they renamed it menage. :lmao:

oh and in my young days I was a maid, so I know what to look for. when I stay at the fairfield I will be giving my full and honest opinion. on cleanliness, beds, grounds, staff, pool everything !!

Don't stay at the Castle Inn, rude staff, no towels, dirty rooms. Just don't do it.

I'd go with the HoJo, CCI, Trop, BWPPI personally. I've had good experiences with those.

I've stayed at the Castle Inn twice now (just returned from there on Wednesday) and I've enjoyed both stays. I always thought that the staff was polite. We had plenty of towels on our trip (3 adults), although I did bring my own pool towel from home. I didn't think the room was dirty, but just outdated and dark. The walk is a bit too far for my liking (not unreasonable), but I would stay there again for a good deal. Our trip this time worked out to about $79/night + tax.

But for a family with small children who want to go back and take naps, I would say to find something closer. When I stayed there with DD3, I just didn't want to walk that far for the chance that she might take a nap once we got there.

I had a bunch of ladies rail me and hound me because I proved that the Menage is almost a mile walk with little shade at times, no way to get to a business if you need help, and over a freeway which has cars speeding off the freeway.:confused3

I will wait for them to go after you next. I have heard rave reviews from the Menage and mixed reviews. It is an older style of building that cannot get rid of some of its old architecture like exterior air conditioning units. In other words instead of looking for bedbugs, cockroaches and dirty sheets some people are looking at the air conditioning units and complaining about those units. Instead of looking at the new decor, amenities and staff they are looking at the air conditioning units and complaining about those units.

I have never stayed at the menage so I would not say either way if it is bad or good. Distance is doable with ART for example and distance is no much worse that some hotels in the area. I would like someone to review that hotel properly on its staff, amenities, cleanliness, etc. as I choose a hotel for those things and do not care about air conditioning units. It sounds like a nice place to stay.

We had a group of 6, 4 kids and 2 adults, they gave us 4 towels. We asked 3 times for towels and never received them, the pool had no towels and we are accustomed to all the hotels having pool towels so we didn't take any. Every time we called the front desk from our room the staff was rude, one of them snapped at my child so loudly I could hear them thru the phone. The day we got there and checked we called down immediately and asked for towels, the answer was "hmmmmm I don't know if we have "extras" I'll have to check with housekeeping". No towels arrived that evening, the next day on our way to the parks (we drive because we have Premiums) we stopped at the lobby and again, asked for more towels, I specifically said "we are a group of 6, 4 kids 2 adults, and we only have 4 towels in our room, can you have the housekeeper leave extras when she cleans our room please?" I also asked for an extra blanket as DBF and I were cold all night. The kids were not so we only asked for 1, I was told for both requests "ummm, I don't know if we can do that but I'll see what I can do". We got back to the room later that day and the blanket was left but still only 4 towels......I took the girls to the pool for a little while and no towels at the pool. DBF went to the lobby and asked for towels, they gave him 2 and said "we will send someone to the pool with more for you" we were at the pool for an hour, NO ONE brought towels....seriously, how is that right? When we checked out I complained, they didn't care, I emailed management no response. We won't stay there again....oh and my FEET STUCK to the floor!!!!!!! GROSSSSSS! The floors were disgusting and dirty and we won't go back to the Castle.

I think bed bugs like tender skin. Years back when I was a kid, my family stayed at a HoJo on the east coast. My dad and brother shared one bed and mom and I in the other. By the morning, my brother and I were covered with bedbug bites but our parents were bite-free. Wierd, huh? :confused3

Back to the topic - We stayed at the Fairfield in December 08 and had a great experience. It was very clean, comfortable and perfect for the two of us. We didn't use the pool but it was adequate by the looks of it. And....that's where we're staying again in 4 weeks!!

d'oh, I said Fairfield got bad reviews, but I meant to say Quality Inn, which is behind the Fairfield. I went back and fixed my first post. On Bret's Disneyland Lodging map: http://www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/DisneylandLinkMap.html It's kind of funny because when you click on the link to Quality Inn, instead of linking to the hotel reservations page you get his review-- with animated bugs crawling around the page, because he saw bugs there. :rotfl: Anyway, that was a few years ago, and lately the reviews for it on tripadvisor are better. It sounds like it's plain but reasonable.

Fairfield has been getting wonderful reviews here. But, HoJo for me!
