Hi!

I'm travelling to Tokyo at the end of October and was wondering if any fellow Canadians have done the trip? How was the flight? Which did you like better Disneyland or DisneySea? Any tips?

Any help you could provide would be appreciated

Thanks!

Hi, have you joined mousesavers.com? Mary went with her husband this year. She has a great trip report on her site.

Enjoy!

Tinkertoo,

I've been there twice (Dec 1998 and Dec 1999). DisneySea wasn't open at that time so I can't comment on that. Tokyo Disneyland was ok. I loved those Japanese-style Mickey/Minnie dolls.:D

Thanks Dolphin_Girl008,

I'm a bit worried about the long flight any tips? How did you find the airport was it confusing at all?

Thanks again for replying to the post :sunny:

Hi Tinkertoo,

Can you sleep on the plane? I couldn't so I brought a couple books with me and read them on the plane. Make sure that you get up and walk around once a while to stretch your legs.:D

I didn't find the airport confusing at all. Most signs are in Japanese and English. You're flying into Narita, right? The first time I took the express train from the airport to the Tokyo station and then took a subway to my hotel in the Ginza district. The second time I took a Limosine bus directly from the airport to the hotel.

Thank you very much! I usually can't sleep on planes but this time I'm bringing one of those neck pillow thingy's and some gravol so lets hope that works

We have been to both Disneyland (3-4 times) and DisneySea (2-3 times) in Japan.

I would reccomend DisneySea, simply because it is much different than any of the other parks here in North America. The rides are new and interesting, and the food is great. Each time we go back we go there for a couple of days.

The airport is no problem... almost all will speak English and like mentioned, the signs are in Japanese and English (most).

Depending on where you are staying, taking either one of the Express trains or limosine bus would be best. If youare stying in the nothern part of Tokyo then maybe the Kesei line would be best, but if you are staying in the Central or southern part of Tokyo the JR lines are best. However, the limosine bus may go directly to your hotel, but the bus will be longer (traffic) and not as comfortable.

May I ask how long you are going for?
I do not want to pry, but I lived in the Tokyo area for a few years and my family goes back yearly for a few weeks a year, thus if you have any questions I may be able to help and provide some suggestions.

If you ahve any questions, either reply to this or PM me...

Good luck... you'll love it.

Thanks Todd,

I will be there for 8 days and am staying with a friend who is teaching in Japan, I beleive the name of the place she is at is Yokohama, not too sure where that is in relationship to Tokyo.

Since we can only afford to go to 1 park I think DisneySea will be the one, chance to see something different :D

I've heard that credit cards aren't widely accepted in Japan is that true?

Since you have made the trip quite a few times, any tips for jetlag? Do you feel more tired going to Japan or coming back?

Thanks

Good choice on DisneySea.. I think you will enjoy it more.

One food suggestion... or a couple... try the Gyoza dogs there are very good and can be bought at a couple of stands in the park. If you cannot find them, ask and one of the CM will tell you.

Another is the Churros, they are short and come with either Chocolate or Caramel sauce...delicious.

Credit cards are widely accepted.. the problem comes with Debit cards or Bank cards. Many of the Japanese banks do not have support for the North American bank cards... thus it is hard to withdraw cash.. but Credit Cards are okay almost everywhere.

As for Jetlag, I think it is tougher coming back. On the way there you will probably leave either in the morning or early afternoon and arrive in the afternoon in Japan.. thus if you can stay up for and extra 6-7 hours or so... then have a good sleep and you will be ready to go..mind you, you will probably wake up a bit early.

On the way back you will probably leave Japan in the afternoon or early evening and get back around noon or so then have to stay awake for a long time... but it is had to say... but I think the excitement will keep you going once you are there.

Have fun..
