Any body purchase Grass feed beef

Since they opened in MN. :confused3 Most of the cattle in MN are grass fed already.

Yep. We typically get ours from a local farmer, but if we need a supply in-between butcherings, Sam's is the only place I will buy it at.

Nice:thumbsup2

one other thing when looking for grass fed make sure it's 100 percent
Grass fed or says grass finished since all cattle are grass fed and
then those sent to factory farms are fattened up with grain

None of the packages are labeled grass fed, the cows just ARE. Sorry you have to pay a premium for what we just get here naturally :lmao:.

Some friends were in Hawaii on vacation and went out to a really nice restaurant. Most people in the midwest know better then to order beef in other parts of the country but they were in the mood for a steak so they got one. They were surprised because it was really good. They asked the owner/manager of the restaurant where they got their beef. He came back and said "xxx Angus Beef, MN". It was from a well known cattle farm outside of the town where we lived. :lmao:

Call your county 4H office. They will have a list of certified farmers who raise beef, pork, and lamb. You will probably have to invest in a freezer, but it will be the best meat you ever ate! Well worth the investment, plus you don't have to go to the store often.

I will buy the ground beef this way. I haven't found a "steak" I like, yet though to make it worth it.

When we relocate to Virginia, I will have access to wegman's and will check out their selection.

The beef that I buy is produced organically but isn't organic. (meaning they raise the cattle in an organic manner as far as feed and being drug free, but they either haven't achieved organic status, yet--OR they may not use all organic means in raising their cattle..i.e. the grass may not be pesticide-free for example.

Maverick is the brand Publix carries and they sell both an organic and conventional version of the beef--but both are grass fed and drug free.

Back in the '70's - when I had my kids on an all-natural diet - there was a local meat market where we would purchase this kind of meat.. I have to agree with you - it was very, very tasty (not to mention the difference in color - no "bright red" because the meat wasn't injected with dye).. They actually had pretty decent prices as well - with different items on special each week..

When they went out of business, we weren't able to find another source and had to return to the meat available in the supermarkets - although I tried to have as many "meatless" meals as possible.. The first time we ate steak from the supermarket again we were totally shocked! The only way I can explain it is to say that the meat tasted like it had hair spray in it! Of course we never noticed that "chemical" taste before as we had never eaten grass fed beef exclusively until we started going to that meat market.. Eventually our taste buds got used to the supermarket meats again, but I'll never forget how good that grass fed beef was..:thumbsup2

CAnn ... head to the GreenMarket in Schenectady (on Sundays in the Proctors building) or to the Troy Farmer's Market ... there are several vendors at the GreenMarket that sell locally grass fed beef, pork, and chicken. You can also purchase buffalo/bison meat there.

Thanks for that info! Troy is quite a trip from here - but I wish I had known about that when I still lived on the other side of the river..

I won't go into Schenectady alone anymore - - but if my Dson-in-law is available some Sunday, I might have him go with me so I can pick up some meat to freeze and take up to the lake..:thumbsup2 How is the pricing?

we get ours from the farmer down the road. He is one of only a few in the area who has hormone free grass fed texas long horns. It's only about 20 cents more a pound then corn fed and I think last time we bought half a cow-however this particular guy will say it by the pound as well as 1/4, 1/5 or a full cow.

You may check at a butcher/meat market and ask if they know anyone who grows them.

The area around Proctors is quite safe now ... especially during the GreenMarket hours (10-2). It can be quite busy when there's a good show at Proctors, so it pays to get there early.

Prices are higher than what you'd pay at Price Chopper or Hannaford. But it's worth every penny.

In the summer the GreenMarket moves outside to the area around the Schenectady City Hall. And the Troy market moves outside as well. The Troy market is very large in the summer. And busy.

best steak EVER is found here http://lobels.com/ , i will admit its pricey. its not for just a random dinner, its for the night where you want a GREAT nice Prime steak and are willing to pay for high quality. Any steak lover that likes Prime meat knows that they lobels only sells the best, they even have Wagyu (American Kobe steaks) , but they are about 80 bucks a pound and up so be careful ! but just their good ol fashioned PRIME is gonna be better steak than most people ever get to eat. if you really want to get scared, look a the price of say a 15 pound wagyu beef Rib Roast, just have a seat ready !!

Love love love it. Our dear friend often sells his veggies through the market in the summer, as well as his flowers, which he always sells out of (you may know him as teh dahlia farmer, if you freguent the market). We go many Sundays. What a fun place...such interesting foods. THe meats are wonderful as are the veggies. Great parking and often fun stuff going on downtown. We have been there advertising our cat rescue and s/n. This has gone a long way towards bringing back the neighborhood to the city. People come from miles. It's been very sucessful! I love when they bring in guest chef's and other similar shows.

If you buy your beef from a butcher that kills the cattle on the premises, you will get some of the best beef you have ever tasted. IMO, it has a lot less to do with the feed than the freshness of the beef.

have to disagree with you there. Feed has a lot to do with it, and it makes no difference if its fresh if it comes from a mediocre cow. less than 2% of beef gets rated Prime, most cows dont make the cut. I will take a frozen then defrosted Prime steak ANY day over a fresh steak from a select or choice cow. how they are raises, where they are raised, what they are fed have a HUGE factor in the flavor and tenderness of the beef, freshness with beef isnt as important. Especially when you consider that most great steaks are dry aged for a few weeks anyways.
