i think i'm pretty similar in style to my mom. i think we all try to continue what we think our parents did well, and 'break the cycle' of things we think they did wrong.

dh grew up getting pretty much any toy he ever asked for, but his parents didn't have a lot of time for him. he is a very hands-on father, though imo he is also over-indulgent with the toys. ;)

i never heard my parents say 'i love you', and we say that constantly to the boys. constantly! it's very important to me that they know this. we also say it to each other, and make sure to say it and show it to the boys. i think kids get a feeling of security from knowing that their parents love each other. some people (my sister included) think it's ridiculous, it's just words, but words have power, and i think that's something very basic we can give our kids.

Totally!! My mom spent very little time with me.. My dad always did, but not so much my mom. But I knew I was loved.. My mom and I have similar personalities.. I think thats why we fight all the time. But I have a FAR BETTER grip on things then she does.

One of my things is having more then just the one kid. I wanted more then one kid, and I wanted them close in age. I grew up as an only child, and it was BORING. I hated it. I have a very limited relationship with my sister.. which we have just started building in the past couple of years. I wanted my kids to have a play buddy. I wanted them to have someone to go to.. If something happens to us, I dont want them to be alone.. My kids are SUPER close. Mikalah will run to her brother to take care of her problems.. and he will solve them. I have seen the child bust open a can on the playground because someone messed with his baby sister.

They get along great, and I couldnt be happier about it! THAT was my big thing that I wanted to change.

My brother and I did a quick market run to Ralph's. There were some frantic shoppers there but at least it wasn't real crazy. My mom went to Costco yesterday and she said the checkout line was so insane. Not to mention, the traffic to get out of the parking lot was a nightmare. :scared:
dh went to costco today to pick up a veggie tray, but he said the parking lot was insane, so he just went to the local grocery. paid quite a bit more, i'm sure, but kept his sanity. ;)

OOga booga boooga

Did I scare the stuffing out of ya??

OOPS! , a day too early :lmao:

My sister said a lot of people were at her Costco in SD buying side items. She said they cleaned out that entire section. :scared1:

weebles wobble but they don't fall down.. la lalalalalalaaa
Have we met?? My husband doesnt even like me walking down the stairs. :lmao:

I went to costco today, adn it was CRAZY busy. We had to park in the back forty, and by the time we got to the car, I was so cramped up.. my husband had to help my into the car. :lmao: I got one cheek in and told him to just use a foot and shove. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Staley, have you seen that Friends episode where they are talking about their worst Thanksgiving experience?

cute!

We did a quick run to Super Target, but it was before the masses came home from school /work. It was still busy for a weekday afternoon.

Traffic on the highway was picking up as we left and streams of cars coming into the lots.
Perfect timing!

I went to Target earlier in the week. Have you seen their dollar section? That's where I bought my christmas wrapping paper. I got 3 rolls and still have tons left over. I was able to wrap all my presents. I also got a crapload of Hello Kitty stuff :rotfl2:

yeah, i have mixed feelings about that one. i was one of 4 kids, all very close in age. i was the 3rd, and my two older brothers bullied me quite a bit, there was no feeling of protection or closeness at all. my sister and i alternately fought like cats and dogs or were super-close. dh an only child.

i always wanted at least 2 kids, maybe 3, but not 4. i thought 4 would be too many for me to handle; and i didn't want them too close in age. dh wanted only one, and didn't understand why i wanted more than one. he kept asking me why, and i came up with lame reasons. even though they sounded lame even to me, i just had this strong desire for at least two. dh agreed to try for a 2nd.

i try to parent the boys to minimize any bullying, and foster a close relationship. they're brothers, i hope they always have each other's back no matter how different their personalities are, and i hope when they grow up they stay close.

they are so stinkin' cute together sometimes, like when ds4 is scared, he will go to his brother. today when we walked ds8 to school, ds4 insisted on giving his brother a hug, and ds8 hugged him back. (normally we drive to the school, and i drop ds8 off at the corner.)

They add more Hello Kitty items each year.. heck each trade out of the dollar spot.
One year they had these cute coin purses of the Hello Kitty face. Snapped up the whole works when they went 75% off, gave them to a classroom.

Later in anohter aisle I overheard a lady tell another lady .. oh you should get these cute lil purses for you daughter

I overhead and said Sorry I just took them all for a classroom.

zoooooooooooooomed away with my cart..

Gotta be quick to get deals around here, the bargain hunters have a system to stalk down the deals. It's rare for me to get anything.

Aww.. it was the one where Chandler talks about how his parents got divorced (that's the reason he hates Thanksgiving)
Oh yeah.. I think I have seen that one.

See.. With Alex and Mikalah, I think that being a boy and a girl makes a difference. At least right now. At bed time.. everyone gets a hug and kiss. when Alex leaves for school he goes and gives his sister a hug and kiss.. If they have been apart for 5 minutes.. The do the running to each other reunion hug thing.. Like they have been apart for years. :lmao: It kills me. Such geeks.

Right now.. SUPER close. Who knows what will happen as they get older.

whoa! they just showed a shot of sea tac airport, and it is D E A D! no line for security, no backup on the drop-off drive. weird! then they showed a shot of king street station (AMTRAK) and it was packed! lots of people taking the train instead of flying for the holiday.

staley, are you a little chilly, girl? it's apparently 30f where you are! :cold:

We live right by the freeway.. and let me tell ya. It has been bumper to bumper southbound ALL DAY.

It rained again today but it's stopped for a few hours. Hopefully it will not rain tomorrow. *crosses fingers*

oh wow, be still my heart! anaheim forecast for our trip (at least as far out as i can see) is showing temps in the upper 70s and low 80s! :yay:
