ANOTHER thread moved to the Debate Board.....sad

Earlier this a.m. I considered moving said post....as a post report was received regarding it. I responded it was still ok to have a discussion, debate on the cb as long as it stayed respectful and friendly. Since the tide has turned and it needed to be moved...they will not tear you up too bad over there Eros, I moderated that board for a while When you say they are entreanched do you mean they do not respond to large capital letters and big red words????

Patrick, the "tide" didn't turn on the thread. Someone chose to post some cartoons which countered mine. Big Deal. There were NO harsh words, no personal attacks, no indignities.

Let's face it. The Webmaster/moderators here just don't like it when there's genuine disagreement. Hey, I hate to tell you, but sometimes good people can disagree strongly in life and still be part of a community. Except on the CB. I feel sorry for your need to "modulate" interaction between members here. Truly pathetic........normally a word I utilize in describing George W... .........

Something I will NEVER understand about you EROS. If we do such a lousy job here, WHY do you stay and continue to come back????? You selectively chose which threads you think we make bad decisions on, forgetting the ones we do make good decisions on, and criticize us continually. That gets tiresome and it is insulting to the people who volunteer their time here to keep this a FRIENDLY place to share thoughts and ideas (see the emphasis on FRIENDLY). It is, indeed, possible to post opposing thoughts in such a manner so that it is not insulting, it is part of a discussion. Do you yell this much in RL??

You're right, WebMasterCathyCanada, I've been trying to knock a round peg into a square hole around here. You really just want a board full of friendliness and prayers and pixie dust and love and understanding and cosmetic tips and hair suggestions and neighborly gossip. Hey, perhaps the WORLD would be a better place if it functioned like the CB, but it doesn't. You just want everyone to be insulated from the pain and suffering which surrounds us. That's OK........that's what WALT would want .........

I agree with Cathy that the major 'crime' here seems to be keeping one (1) board friendly and free of conflict when possible. That is the real world. My kids' school doesn't have knock-down drag-outs, I never did in the office, why should we do it here. The moderators are only guilty of moderating. And they do it well. So that's why a lot of us are "???" about your objections.

I shall go back to the DB cave now and peruse the 'Bush is an idiot' thread. [grumble] Work, work, work...[/grumble]

Laudable but unrealistic if you understand human behavior. People can disagree without "knock-down" fights. It's just that ANY real disagreement here is seen as poisonous. If you re-read my posts, you'll see that I stated that the CB members seem much more reflective to me than the stuffed shirts on the DB. What's PATHETIC is the repetitious whining and the soooo superior attitude about this and every other topic that doesn't go your way.

I really think you SHOULD head over to the Debate Board and hang out for a while. What's wrong with someone disagreeing? Not a thing. Why don't you put your posts where you mouth is, and disagree with those who do it regularly, and are quite good at it.

Or, if you're afraid, and those dogs are too big, maybe you should just stay on the porch.

Most of my posts on the CB have NOTHING to do with debate. Anyone who really follows my posting knows that. It's just that I'm hated and despised for those few threads when I express strongly held views. That's OK................. I know that in Fantasyland, everything is allllllllllllllllways rosy.

People do not object to dissenting views - at least most people. The objection is to the attitude that is used in expressing those views that put down anyone who doesn't agree with you.

I just want to make that part clear. Many people express dissenting views while still showing respect for the other posters.

It's all about respect, and experience shows that when one person doesn't respect others that person also tends to lose the right to be respected.

Mary Jo, I DON'T single out the views of any one poster here. Whether I'm commenting on War in Iraq or Capital Punishment, I'm careful to indict ALL who have an opposing viewpoint. On the other hand, the attacks back on ME are highly INDIVIDUALIZED and PERSONAL.Unlike other posters, I don't run to a moderator when my feelings are hurt. Respect is a two-way street. Frankly, there have been horrible things said here DIRECTLY about ME. I, in turn, have never gone after any ONE member for his/her views.

mmm...because maybe it is?

I mean, maybe since this is the 'lobby' of the whole DIS so to speak....it makes sense to keep the disagreements to the barest minimum? Especially since a lot of us are in the habit of turning things....south. To Cuba. Way, way, waaaaayy off course. Well yes, that does make a lot of sense to me in that light - I like to argue but I wouldn't want to be responsible for others turning away because they don't like the animosity here.

So I go along happily with confining things to one board. No biggie.
