Another thread about the "War on Christmas"

So what is the point of this thread? If you don't think there is (or isn't) an attempt to water down Christmas into some secular holiday so that it's celebration won't offend anyone, why post a thread like this? Is it because the people who don't believe there is such an attempt and feel that others that believe differently just want to antagonize them and :stir:

I think the point was quite obvious. Pointing out that if there is a "war" it's because the supposed victims are actaully on the offensive with these shirts.

If anybody question that these shirts exist just do a Google search. You'll see how many different ones are being made and how much people are charging for them.

People buy and wear them to WDW (and other parks) knowing they will have a large stage.

Actually, until the recent hoopla about this, I would have worn a T-shirt like this, because my meaning would be what I stated above and I would be making a statement about materialism. Now, after all of the media sensationalism regarding this, I would think twice.

The point was always that before all this the shirt wouldn't have been made, that's all.

Ok, so what is the point being made by this new DIS smilie? :wizard:

Isn't this just the same 'in your face' stuff you are talking about? So, who is allowed to be 'in your face'?

re' Nuke's deal: it is the intention of purposely provoking a response from someone rather than actually wishing them well that is wrong....you should be saying it with good intentions or not all if you do not actually mean it!
::yes::
A mature adult does not do or say something just to cause a reaction in another. I have no problem with Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Yule or any other one as long as it was sincere.

So you really think that you're their target audience?? :confused3 I don't know, I think you may just be letting yourself get caught up in an extremist way of looking at it. It's too assumptive in my opinion and I base that on going back 10-15 years when I lived in rural Missouri, very much the Bible Belt. I would see shirts and signs like that all over and it was just as PAW described, Christians addressing each other. Honestly that was about the only audience they had, so I really don't see any alterior motives on their part.

We spent 12 nights at WDW, returned on 12/7, and we never once saw one of these shirts. I was wished both a Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas. I was at WDW for a vacation not for political reasons or to find something to post about Christmas on the DIS.

I'm not sure what t-shirts you're referring to.

Maybe they're just fed up? If people feel the need to make a big deal out of it, that's their choice. Is there really a need for those that don't care one bit how they are greeted to make a big deal out of the feelings of others?

Calling me a liar? We were there till the 16th so it's entirely possible that folks started wearing them as it got closer to the actual day.

Where did I ever call you a liar? :confused3 We saw many Christmas shirts and never saw one of those.

I thought President Bush already declared victory with the war on Christmas when he landed on that aircraft carrier a few years ago? Or was that another war? So many wars I get confused.

Oh come on, there really is no other reason to say you didn't see any. Your seeing or not seeing them has nothing to do with my experience ulness you are trying to say I'm making it all up.

If that wasn't the point, then what was it?

But at least you're not trying to deny it all and say they were just puting them out there for other Christians to see. :happytv:

People have already said that shirts were being made with "Jesus is the reason for the Season" 15-20 years ago. My mom had a pin that said this at least 20 years ago.

Whoa, was that pot shot for me?

And I've said the ones I saw went much further. Many had something like the old ones people say existed with more takced on to make it ovbious this was all about the supposed new war on Christmas.

I can't believe people's defense on this is deny it's happening. :sad2:

Did any of you do a search and see how many are up for sale? See for yourself that these are no longer your mom's "reason for the season" shirts.
