Another thread about the "War on Christmas"

My goodness! Barbs and insults and insinuations are flying all over the place here! All I know is that I am HIGHLY offended that our school district has stopped referring the break between this week and first week of January as CHRISTMAS break. They are calling it WINTER break. Crikey! This is offensive to me because it is a nod to folks who are celebrating WINTER solstice! Holy War on Christmas, Batman! Where does it all end!


BTW... not to be offensive, but Jesus really IS "the reason for the season", isn't he? I doubt all this shopping and baking and caroling would be going on if it wasn't for Christmas.

OK, but that's now how it came across. I know what I saw, and all of them were obviously about the uproar in recent years.

And I've said the ones I saw went much further. Many had something like the old ones people say existed with more takced on to make it ovbious this was all about the supposed new war on Christmas.

I can't believe people's defense on this is deny it's happening.

Did any of you do a search and see how many are up for sale? See for yourself that these are no longer your mom's "reason for the season" shirts.

I haven't seen the type of shirts you're referencing. I'm just happy to live in a country where we're free to wear "get in your face" silly t-shirts. I really hope it didn't detract from any of the magic for you at the happiest place on earth.

Oh come on, there really is no other reason to say you didn't see any. Your seeing or not seeing them has nothing to do with my experience ulness you are trying to say I'm making it all up.

Just to show that there were not everywhere recently. I made the same comment about gay days when other said they saw so many offensive shirts. I said I did not seem them. Just making it clear to others that not all people saw them. Maybe you are more observant than I am. I did see many Christmas shirts but not that Christmas shirt. When I wear a shirt I wear it because I like it.

Where I work there are equal numbers of Jewish and Christian people. I would never say anything but Happy Holidays at this time of year because in a professional building people aren't wearing "I'm Jewish" or "I'm Christian" t-shirts to work and you actually can't tell by looking at the average person.

But yes if someone did actually blow a gasket about me saying Happy Holidays I fully intend to laugh in their face.

I am always amazed at the number of people who don't know or acknowledge the origins of the Christmas holiday.

I feel the same way. I was never trying to say people should not have the right to wear them.

As for taking away some of the magic, no way, but if you're like us, you see how many people make special shirts for their WDW trip and you start actually looking at peoples shirts when you have the chance.

It appears that creating matching shirts for your family is all the rage. There were quite a few that were quite cool beyond the ones I found to be quite rude.

Others just simply purchased matching shirts from disneyonline when they were on sale. We saw dozens of families wearing different colors of the same shirt we got on disneyonline's clearance sale.

Gotcha, it's entirely possible we just noticed more shirts. As I just posted to swedishmeatball, after seeing many familes with matching custom shirts we actually starting discussing them with eachother when we were just simply sitting around waiting, like before the park opening or one of the parades.

We also had had people notice our shirts too, so it's not just us. One person was quite bummed to find out that the cool IOA shirt I had on was 6 years old and likely no longer available in the gift shops.

Pagan holiday -yada yada yada... Been there, done that, got the T shirt. Yawn. But if it wasn't for Jesus of Nazareth the holiday Christmas would not exist and the pagan rituals would not have been plundered by the church.

I do wonder how far they will go though. Do they argue that Christ was actually born on or near Dec 25th? Do they actually deny that the date was chosen specifically to coincide with older Pagan celebrations.

And many of the beliefs go back way farther than Pagan back to the Egyptians. I know this but it does not take away from my celebration of Christmas. BTW I beleive that Jesus was probably born in the late fall.

Another thing to realize too is that a religion that is not popular with the ruling class would find it easeir to celebrate a Holy Day at the same time as the ruling class was celebrating to not draw attention to themselves.

Nah it was actually a leap year that year, Feb. 29, so they decided to comprimise and go with Dec 25.

Although, I'm beginning to question this because the NFL network is listing the games this Sunday 24th as Christmas day games, so if the NFL network says the 24 is Christmas, that has got to be true. You can't go against what the NFL network wants to do.
