Another peeve thread about Christmas Cards

Really?

I hate when someone write Dear so-and-so above the pre-printed message. I think it's so tacky - it's a preprinted greeting card company saying, stop trying to pass it off as a personal missive from your heart.
An actual note or letter written on the blank fold or back of the card IS a special touch but I know many don't have the time to do that so I certainly don't hold it against them.

So true, I guess next year we can expect threads that complain that family members send pre-printed cards instead of writing their own.

I have to agree with the OP. I got a card yesterday from my cousin-we are a close family-signed "Sue and Bob Blah" I wasn't offended or mad, but I was kind of taken aback. I just think with family or close friends, making it a tad more personal isn't that time consuming.

Of course, I'd take the generic Christmas card over the 3 page newsletter my other cousins wife sends out every year. Detailing all of the supernatural highs of their whirlwind lives. ("Danny is excelling in horseback riding lessons! He is on track for the Olympics, he is so amazing!") He's 4 and every picture of him on said horse he's crying his head off.

I have an ex-coworker who does the same thing. It's just she and her husband who is an artist and she goes on and on about his latest creations, gallery events, etc. I don't know him well enough to care, really. To me this is the exact opposite of what Snap was saying -- way too much information that I really don't care about. ;)

LOL.. I can easily beat that by a mile..

Got such a nice "personal" card from my brother and his GF this week.. Card stock - made on their computer.. Nice photo of them - taken at my younger brother's funeral in 2006 - trimmed with holly.. Photo on the left - on the right, computer-printed "Wishing you joy in your world and peace in your home during the Holidays and always." No signature on the front - no signature on the back (pre-printed or otherwise).. Envelope was computerized as well - my name and address - their return address..

Alrighty then.. If I hadn't already mailed theirs I would have just mailed this back to them with "Ditto" typed on the back..:rotfl:

Sorry - that just doesn't cut it with me.. Each of their first names contain 3 letters.. How "time consuming" can that be?? They're both retired..

I just sent off our cards - done with Shutterfly, had our message and names printed on them. Printed address labels and return address labels. I tried writing on the backs of the cards, but the ink smeared and the ballpoint made indents. So no writing on the cards. Nothing personal - sorry, not this year.

I'll be going to Hell for sure! ;)

I love Christmas cards. I don't care if they are signed, personalized or my address was done by the computer, I just love knowing the person thought enough about me to add me to their list.

Sharpie markers. They make 'fine' tipped ones in various colors, and they work great for writing on cards---no smear. I use them for my kids' school pictures-- and any picture, really.

A lot of people do---believe me. I've seen family take pictures of the deceased in the casket and everything--- I don't 'get it'.

Apparently *****ing about a card you received is "cutting it" but sending a computer card is "not cutting it". Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.:rotfl::rotfl:

I am happy that I got all the cards that we do. Some people need to learn to be gracious receivers.:thumbsup2

I also put X's and O's :rotfl2:

See, that really annoys me.

They are only 4 letter words. Can't the sender take the time to write out Hugs and Kisses?

:rolleyes1 :lmao: At what point do you draw the line of people taking "short cuts". Preprinting the names is not ok, but abbreviating Hugs and Kisses is?

Point is, everybody has different ideas of how things are ok to be done.

As the PP said, (global you to all that gripe about getting cards) just be a gracious receiver, enjoy the holiday spirit conveyed by the card, and stop griping about the details and how they don't fit your particular idea of the perfect way to do cards.

Sheesh.

I FINALLY finished my Christmas cards earlier this week. I had to go to the store and pick them up, then I had to put them in the envelope, peel the label off the printed sheet and stick them on the front, peel the return address sticker and stick them on, THEN peel the stamp and stick them on. On top of that I had to lick the back of every envelope to seal it. Took me 1/2 hour tops. :thumbsup2

I already received a phone call from my friend telling me how nice the pictures were this year. Thank God I have friends that appreciate my thought above my time and effort.

UPDATE:

Next year, everyone's sending snapppyd a HOME-MADE, personally-signed Christmas card......:teeth:

I think you all are missing my point. And maybe it is petty :rolleyes1, but you all keep saying at least they thought of you. The point is, they did not think of us. It is a generic card, signed in a generic way. This is my DH's one and only BROTHER, how are they thinking of us if you sign "The L_____ Family"??

So I guess you expect each person in the family to sign their own names, individually? Otherwise only the person who wrote the card would be "thinking of you", right? Like if I signed all our family's names, the thought would only be from me? :confused3
If your brother's wife wrote the brother's name and her name, you would probably complain about that? :confused3

(I actually have an elderly aunt and uncle who sign their individual names-they are the only ones I have seen do that for Christmas cards.)
