Another Delta thing to watch out for.

After seeing all the Delta posts on this board I've been checking my flight times religiously to make sure they have not been changed. What I haven't paid attention to until today is my seats. Today I noticed that the seats on my itinerary do not match the plane layout you can check to see how many seats are still available. We were in rows D and F and lo and behold the plane does not have those rows. When I called I was told there had been an equipment change and they had assigned me new seats. Of course the new seats left my children ages 3 and 5 sitting on their own. I was able to get new seat assignments, not all together but at least each child gets to sit next to a parent. I guess I'll now be calling them every two weeks to make sure our seats haven't been changed again. I don't know how to do that online.

It's funny you said that about talking to them every two weeks...I had to call Delta yesterday since they changed our arrival time by 5 mins. and I had to call them to 'confirm' my seats. When the CS rep asked if there was anything else she could do for me, I said..."No, but I'll be talking to you next week-end I'm sure." She just laughed and said 'Most likely." Getting close to my Nov 30 departure date and things seem to be changing constantly.

Equipment changes are not unique to Delta. Most airlines do this from time to time as needs change and flights don't fill up. No sense flying a larger jet when a smaller one will suffice. With jet fuel prices soaring like gas prices do, I'd expect to see this happen more.

You can check reservations online with Delta as long as you have your reservation number and the first/last name of the person the tickets are booked under.

Chris, I wouldn't just wait and call Delta every couple of weeks. I'd check the flights online a couple of times a day - then call them ANY time you find a change.

Welcome to my life!!! :rotfl2: I seem to be on-line checking throughout the day lately. A neccesary evil it seems.

Oh, I hear ya!
I am flying Song next month and I check my flights almost every single day.

BTW.....Song (slightly) changed their dep/arr times again between BDL/MCO
therefore causing erasure of seat assignments......check your flights from 12/1/05 on an you may see the changes. You'll have to call Delta/Song for re-confirmation. Just trying to help out. :confused3

These have been my experiences with Delta/Song so far:

2 yrs. ago Song direct flight was cancelled never notified then moved to a Delta flight not good hrs. for us. I called had a rude CSR who really didn't offer any helpful solutions to the problem. I was upset almost cancelled the flights but hung up instead to regroup...didn't want to loose my excellent price. Called again got a great CSR who walked me through my options and settled on a Delta flight w/connection semi-decent hrs. kept great rate as the flight cancel was Delta's not mine so no increase in fare.

Spring forward to now....Made reservations in June for Jan. 06 flight on Song. The flight has had 6 changes made to it and each time I must call and reconfirm the seat assignments. I found the changes...I was never notified by Song about them. I really didn't expect to be. I had not been contacted 2 yrs. ago when my flight was cancelled 2wks. before the trip so I just always keep track of my flights less stress for me that way.

After 6 calls this is what I have learned from them:

Song flights should keep the same seat assignments if there has been a time change because the actual aircraft doesn't change (Song uses the same type of plane for all of their flights so there is no difference in the seat configuration)

If the flight has been cancelled then you may loose your original seat assignments if they move you to an all ready booked flight where your specific seats are assigned to another flyer so you can't have them. If your original seats from the cancelled flight are open on the new flight they will assign those to you but you still need to call to have it show up on your itinerary.

All bets are out the window if they move you from a Song flight to a Delta flight because the plane configuration will most likely not match your original seat assignement so you really need to be quick on the draw to try to get seats you think you might like.

Bottom line for me:

I check on line every day to see what changes may have been made then call to reconfirm the seat assignments if a change has happened. It only takes a couple of minutes to check this and I feel better knowing what is up. Most of the changes have taken place on a Sat./Sun. to the schedule but I still check daily because who really knows anymore?!!!

I would suggest people stay proactive on Delta/Song changes. If flight times and seat assignments are important to you (and they are to most people) keep checking on a regular basis to make sure you are keeping somewhere close to what you wanted in the first place.

Happy flying to us all! :flower:

Every time I have flown Delta/Song, I have had at least one change to my flights. Never have I been notified. But, they did call both my dh and me when they had overbooked and were looking for people to change their flights!! They called us about 2 days before the flight. Neither one of us changed since we had plans that had been made based on our arrival times.

Smart... very smart. Just as with CRO, any time you're having difficulty dealing with somebody on the phone, simply say "Thank you very much", hang up and call back.

I had a bit of an odd thing happen. With NO changes to my flight, my seat assignment disappeared, at least online. When I called, no problem, they still had me in that seat and next time I looked the seat [I}was[/I] again 'taken'. Of course, I'm still concerned - there are still only about ten seats sold on the flight so far, and it's only a month away...

katieeldr..I just checked my flight and my seats were also gone for both flights. For the life of me I couldn't find any changes. I called and it seems on my return flight only, they changed arrival time by 1 minute. Now they are going to get 100 phone calls of people trying re-confirm the seats for a 1 minute later arrival time. I just think that is so silly. What a waste of time for these CSR's.

My flight out of Boston this Nov/Dec also changed by 1 minute which made my seats unassigned.

I had to call because in all these changes, the last time my seats went from row 5 to 25 which I'm not too happy about and my flights are full. I don't want to take any chances. I probably check once a week.

I just called Song about our flights in December that have been completely changed. Bad news for me, our seats are no longer assigned. I booked a row for our family of five and now we have no confirmed seats, although their websites still shows our original assignments. He said we would have to have them assigned at the airport b/c they have no more seats left to assign. What?!?!?!?
Now I feel like I am going to have to jump through hoops to get seat assignments at the airport so that none of our children are sitting alone. I will probably never fly Song again. Believe it or not, I would rather fly Southwest when I know going in that I don't have assigned seats.

Happened to us too. We're flying out of NY on Nov 5. They moved my parents and brother to two different itineraries (with connecting flights!) Me and my kids were on the same flight. Now, we are all going out of a different airport altogether, so that we can all be together. However, they told us the same thing, no more seats available for assignment until we get to the gate.

In Dec I am traveling alone so am not real worried about this. However, we have Song booked for our Easter/April Vacation and this is my biggest fear. They have already cancelled one flight for that trip and, thanks to these boards, I caught it and was able to get my same seats re-assigned for my "new re-booked flight. Hopefully if it happens again I will catch it in time to not cause me a problem.

All my flights with Song have changed by a minute or two also.
Called and got our seats back. Even with all the calling, I still would rather fly Song.

So, is there no way to take care of the unassigned seat problem on-line? Last week I booked with Delta for our February trip and selected the seats I wanted. Now, each of our four segments have had changes ranging from 6 minutes to 15 minutes. While the flight numbers stayed the same and it looks like it is the same plane, my seats are "unassigned." I can't figure out how to assign them on-line (even though there is a menu that says you can change seat assignments by going to the reservation). Has anyone else figured this out or do I have to call?

Thanks!

You have to call them. I'm assuming that's how they cover themselves in case someone says..."Oh, you didn't tell me the flight was landing 10 minutes later." Much easier for them than sending out emails or phone calls. They would be sending emails and calling us all the time with the way things change with Delta/Song.

But we're trainable, right? Seems like it would be easier for them if those of us who know to check all the time could take care of seating on the website -- as when we originally purchased the tickets. Oh well, guess I'll be calling tomorrow -- and next week, and next month . . .

I appreciate your help. This thread has been very helpful to me.
