Another death this year.

I'm in shock right now.

A very dear friend of mine passed away this past week, and I just found out about it.

I had a circle of friends from elementary and middle school who we've all remained close with over the years. This man was the spirit of our group. He was our funny bone, our clown. Each woman in our group fell in love with him at one time or another, but it was okay, and we all remained close despite that. Even our husbands loved this man. You couldn't help but love him.

About 4-5 years ago, he had a heart attack, and this devastated him financially. He lost his business and pretty much everything. He cut us all off because he couldn't stand for anybody to see him so low. My friends and I have been struggling with that ever since, and now he's gone. We'd always had faith that he'd bounce back into our lives one day like nothing had ever changed.

Now that will never happen. I'm just in shock. Forgive me for rambling. I'd thought this year couldn't get any worse, but fate has a way of knocking you right back down.

DH has had a similar situation happen this year; three members of his close circle of college friends have died in the past 7 months. Even though these were not people he really saw regularly anymore, he is very depressed because of it. Not only has he lost 3 good friends, but it also is a very startling reminder of his own mortality.

I think I remember you posting about that at one point. I have this core group of friends that I've known most of my life, and no matter how long we go without talking, we pick up right where we left off when we see one another. I've made good friends since, but it's just not the same, know what I mean?

But to have 3 within a span of a year. It's unimaginable. Maybe there is something to the saying that death comes in 3s. I sure hope not. I'm on my second in four months.
