First of all, let me thank you all for taking time to walk us newbies through this process. It really is helpful. Based on your answers, I have narrowed down what use year I need, points to buy, and how to break down the points.

Now I am wondering, I would use the developer points in June 09 for a vacation, and will not be going to WDW until then. Should I go ahead and purchase or see if the incentives get better?

With the economy the way it is, I wonder if I should wait it out a little and see what the market for DVC does. I know AKV offers got a little better with time, just wondering about BLT.

Do you think BLT will sell out before June?

I don't think that it will sell out, but only DVD knows what they are going to do with the prices and incentives. The Guides don't even know what's going to happen until they get the memo.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone really knew what was in store for the future with DVC........:confused3

I received an official DVC member mailing last week, promoting add on's for existing members and announcing a "price increase" on Jan 15th, 2009.

Here's how it's stated:

NOW
Pay $104. per pt. @ VAK
Add on @ BLT for as few as 25 pts.

After the Price Increase 1/15/09
Pay $112. per pt. @ VAK
Add on @ BLT at a minimum of 100 pts.

New BLT Incentive as of 11/6

"Those purchasing a new contract of 160+ points or current members adding 100 or more points are now eligible to receive a matching set of Developer's Points for use within 12 months from the date of purchase. The Developer's Points can be used to book any of the DVC resorts 7 months in advance of arrival (pending availability) or they can be applied to non-DVC destinations like the Disney Collection (Disneyland resorts, DCL, etc.) or World Passport Collection.

This incentive comes in addition to the $5 per point cash discount (net price of $107 per point) on purchases of 100 or more points at the Bay Lake Tower."

Best of Luck in your decision !!:wizard:

With that price increase announce, it looks like they are only worried about the economy of those staying at hotels, remember, they are offering the "buy 4 get 3 free", versus increasing prices for DVCers......

are DVCers safe from this economy???? or why they don´t receive more incentives???

 :confused3 :sad2:

I keep looking for my DVC crystal ball, but can't find it:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Maybe I'm just overthinking things. But with us, if we are going to buy in at BLT I guess I'm locked into a minimum point level and price anyway. The only way the price increase would affect us would be if they go over $112 per point or take away the amount off per point from BLT.

The last time I spoke with my guide the matching points had to be used at SSR and now it looks like they can be used at other DVC resorts as well. Just a couple of weeks ago, they were not offering any developer points, just the $5 off per point. So I guess that makes me wonder about more incentives.

Last year we were looking at AKV but did not buy because of the speculation about what would be offered at the Contemporary. I remember double points being offered at one point there.

I thought the developer points were for use at SSR only? Did that change?

No, that did not change. Spoke with my guide again today. You can do either the matching points at SSR or the 5 night stay at any 1 bedroom DVC villa. My guide explained that for the points numbers I was looking at I could get a 2 bedroom villa at SSR vs a 1 bedroom at any other resort. That was why is was going over that option with me.

I called MS to double check today and they said the developer points were good at SSR (or 3 nights anywhere, but that was for new not add-on) so there's some mixed messages/posts on here. Left a message with my guide. I was hoping to stay elsewhere but they're 'free' points so I guess I'll just stay elsewhere next time.

Thanks for clearing it up!
