Another Annual Pass Question

We, too, took advantage of the great DVC deal on PAPs (still hoping for another great deal)...Our passes will expire in January and we would like to renew them, but we only need a regular AP. Is it possible to renew the PAP for an AP at the DVC AP renewal rate.

From Post 15-G of the Everything About WDW Tickets sticky:
G. What are the rules for Renewal Annual Passes (and what About Renewal Vouchers)?

To renew any sort of Annual Pass it must be done within 30 days of either side of the expiration date. Note that upgrading or downgrading of any annual product may be done at the special renewal rate.

Normally this is done at any park (including water park or TTC) ticket booth or any Guest Relations Office (including DTD). It cannot be done at a Resort.

If you renew prior to the expiration date, the new pass will not be valid until the expiration date of the old pass. If you renew after the expiration date the effective date will be backdated. If you do an upgrade at renewal time, and the renewal/upgrade is prior to the expiration date of the old Pass, the new Pass will not be effective until the old one expires. In any event, using the renewal rate will have the new pass expire on the same date the next year. (See Post #19 for the expired special 15 month promotion.)

If you have a MYW ticket you may upgrade that ticket to a WSP, SP, AP or PAP at the renewal rate just as any other upgrade as long as you are within the renewal window. The rules for expiration date stay the same as any other renewal.

Note that, by definition, an Renewal of a Pass can only be done at a WDW Ticket Window or Guest Relations Office.

If you are not at WDW you get a voucher at the renewal rate sent to you. However, this can be a multi-edged sword.

If you renew within one year after the expiration date of your current pass it will be just the same as if you renewed at WDW with the expiration date one year from the date of the old pass. If you will be activating the voucher more than a month or two away you might find that it would have been better to pay the full price and have the anniversary date changed.

While a voucher for purchase of an AP is valid forever and may be exchanged without penalty after several years the rules for a renewal are different.

As stated above, with a renewal voucher used within a year from expiration it will not change the expiration date. However, if it is used more than a year from the expiration date the value will only be what you paid for the voucher toward the current gate price of a new AP. so you will have to pay more on redemption.

Thanks SUR -I checked the existing thread and CarolMN has confirmed that yes, we can renew our PAP with the AP renewal rate. Since our PAPs expire in January and we will be there when they expire, we will renew them as APs because we will be back in April. I asked MS this question and they did say they "thought" they could be renewed at the AP rate, but they were not sure...glad I was able to confirm this here!!

Make sure you get a cast member at MS who knows that you can renew your PAP as an AP and get the AP renewal price. I went to renew my PAP as an AP and the cast member told me I would have to pay full price for the AP - not the renewal price. I checked it out on the boards and found out the cast member was incorrect.

Since stephen11 plans to renew the passes in person when they are there, it is unlikely that he will encounter a problem. The on-site Guest Relations CMs are usually very well versed in all the ins and outs of ticketing. But still good to know what to expect - just in case. :)

You can renew online if your current AP is registered. I just took a test drive on MDE for my AP that does not expire until January and it gave me the option to renew at either level. However, note that you are given the regular prices first, but there is a drop down to choose DVC prices. My DH's pass expired last month, but since we have a voucher special he will just get a new pass in October. I do like purchasing on line and getting the printable voucher. I've done it this way for many years.

Where in MDE are you seeing the renewal? I can't seem to find it! I didn't see a drop down.

Yes I did that and then I go to renew on of the last options but it lists regular rates no DVC option. I just thought I had to call couldn't renew online.

I Choose regular AP and when my cart came up, it had a drop down menu and I clicked it and it showed DVC prices. When I choose DVC prices the prices changed.

I think I figured it out. I never linked MDE and DVC account. Just spent an hour on the phone with MS to try to link the two together and it won't work. I have to call back later since my lunch break was over to try and figure it out. I'm hoping when linked I will have the option.

Is the email on your DVC profile the same email on the MDE account? Also you contact phone number. Once I made them both exactly the same, the two linked together with no problem. I did have to log off and do a restart on my computer to get a new fresh start.

Email yes, not sure about phone! Good to know will try that and the restarting computer. .
I've totally hijacked this post.. Sorry!

My login to MDE was my email and I had a username to log in to DVCMember. MS told me to now use my Username not email to log in, is that correct? When I log in as my email I see everything. When I log in as Username I only see my DVC info under about me.

That's interesting, because whether I use my "username" or email, both reach the same destination. Same for my husband's account. I actually had "extra" accounts that I created over the years, I saw a post on the Disney site about that issue and logged on and it pulled up a couple of accounts for me. It gave me the opportunity to click which one was current and which I no longer used.
