Annual Pass Upgrade from Gold to Platinum

We are DVC members and will be at WDW this summer for our annual trip. The current plan is to purchase the Gold Annual Pass. The one concern I have is the Gold Pass has blackout dates over the Christmas and Spring Break periods. The is an outside chance we may be able to add in a Christmas trip so my question is can we upgrade from a Gold to Platinum Pass mid-year?

My assumption is yes and that we would just have to pay the price difference but I would appreciate it if anyone can confirm this is the case.

Also, your expiration date will remain unchanged and the cost is not prorated.
