Annual Pass Question

I guess it's easy for me to be confused, as we've only been DVC members for one year. I'd like to take advantage of our DVC discount on Annual Passes for WDW. We're supposed to be able to buy passes for our whole family at a discounted rate. The DVC member site states: 'Disney Vacation Club Members receive a discount on the Pass for themselves and their immediate family residing in the same household only.' (Valid drivers license required showing they live in the same house). They said that my 'son-in-law' wouldn't qualify. Seems odd to me that they include domestic partners, step brothers, step sisters, Mother in law, & grandparents.:sad1:

That does seem odd. I'd call and talk to someone else or even a manager. If a brother in law is considered immediate family then a son in law should be too.

Just a thought for the OP, if it were me, I would not buy the AP vouchers ahead of time, I would get a 6 day hopper for everyone, so you can use your magic morning the first day it is available while you are there, then upgrade to an AP right after MM and start using your discounts. I think that MM is so worth it. Unless you are staying on property, and get all the MMs anyway. Then nevermind :rotfl:

As far as if you want them to get a discount on the tours, you could get a Disney Visa and those also have a discount for the tours. Plus you get free money to stay in Disney. I love my card. I got $200 free Disney dollars as soon as I signed up (the offers vary from $50 to $200) but any free money in Disney is good for me. I put as many purchases as I can on it and I am up to $400. I'm saving for a big DW trip in 2014.

Oh My goodness, I didn't even think about the possibility of not having a MM!!! We will be there Jan 2-9, and I was planning using the MM on the Saturday as my mom is meeting us at DL on Thursday and she will have a MM. MM is soooooo worth it to me! I also don't want to wait that long to activate the pass as we will be doing WoC dining, Surfs Up Breakfast, Thunder BBQ and the Holiday Tour and I hopefully want to get the discount for all of these.

As for the Visa, we are from Canada and I looked into getting the Visa but they said it was for US only.

If you really want the MM, but also the discounts during the week before you use it, my only suggestion is one person bite the bullet and upgrade to an AP when you get there so you guys can get discounts during the week. Then that person will have to miss MM on Saturday.

Ok- we've made up our minds (I think) and have decided to buy the AP on the last day of our 6 day park hopper ticket. But.... now I have another question:
Our first day in the park using our 6 day park hopper will be January 3rd. We plan on getting the AP on January 8th. When will our AP expire in 2013?
Jan 3?
Jan 8?
Or when we use it for the first time in September?

TIA!!!

It will expire the a year from the first day you use the tickets you upgrade. The anniversary date will say Jan 3rd.

Really I would suggest combining the advice already given. Upgrade ASAP to get the AP discounts, but use the MM on the PH first. You should do the MM on Tuesday the 3rd, if that too soon then Thursday the 5th. Upgrade in the afternoon when the lines at the ticket booths are short.

As skiing fast said, your AP will expire the first day of use, not the day you upgrade.

Also, just a quick note, once you use the MM on Saturday you can upgrade to the AP and use the discounts for the rest of your visit....also if you are staying on site you get MM each day of your stay that they offer it. My suggestion is you get the hoppers, use the MM, then upgrade to APs. Best of both worlds. :)

If you are doing ALL of these things, I would prob buy the premium pass for at least one of you, since you get a tad more of a discount on food, etc. I think it is only 5%, but that adds up pretty fast with all of these things and then you don't have to buy the extra ticket. Just an idea! I LOVE my AP :)!

This is actually what we have, 1 PAP and 3 DAP. We use DBF's for the discounts because the PAP does give better discounts. :)

Thanks again for all of you advice. We have battled with this decision but here is what we came up with:
Purchasing the 6 day PH starting Jan 3
Doing MM on Saturday
(I know we can do MM earlier but my mom is coming on Friday so this would be the first opportunity to do MM with her)
Upgrade to the annual pass on Sunday. I know this means missing out on the discounts for this trip, but it also means that our pass will expire that much later next year, so we can get another post Christmas trip in next year.
We are doing Surf's Up Breakfast on Sunday so we can use our AP discount for that. We are also going to save all of our souvenier shopping until Sunday as well.

Thanks again! I can't begin to explain how valuable all of this info has been for us!

I want to stress what has already been said, which is that if you upgrade your park hopper to an AP, it expires one year from the first day you used the park hopper, NOT one year from when you upgrade. Waiting to upgrade will NOT make your AP expire any later. Use the MM, then upgrade to get discounts. I hope you read this, as you'd be making a big mistake!

I just wanted to add that if you are driving to the resort each day of your visit, you want that Premium pass even sooner as it includes parking (not hotel parking, but daily visitor parking).

If you mentioned you are staying on site and I missed it, apologies.

Sonnyjane is correct, your AP will expire Jan 3rd not when you do the upgrade. I know as I have done this multiple times. You don't get extra time on the AP.

And yes, Dreams is correct, parking is free with the PAP. Another reason we got 1 of those. :)

I did understand this, I'm not sure why I starting thinking this way again. Maybe I'm just getting too confused.:confused3 We are still going to upgrade Sat after we use our MM. Thanks again for making this clear to me. I really appreciate it!!!
