Annoyed with double booking rule!

I think that the experiences of the OP and of Kata are ridiculous. It is normal to have your meals 5 to 6 hours apart, and to consider this double booking is unbelievable. I think I would try again, and ask to speak with a supervisor to express your frustration. I understand their desire to crack down on those booking two closely spaced reservations, who obviously cannot be in two places at one time, but this is an example of taking a policy way too far.
Thank you for the support!!!!!!I am not trying to hold multiple reservations until I decide what I want to eat.I plan on eating at the restauarants I have booked regardless of the name I had to use. When I called and got the information about double booking my CM even put me on hold and checked
with a supervisor.I am an honest person who booked my ADR's at 180 days out like any good Dis Board member would do.If Disney feels better about me calling with a different name I can certainly do that for them.:) What's next? What's next will they say you can't have lunch and dinner on the same day?:confused3

I made two reservations to hold both spots until my husband and I decide what to do. It's more that 4 months away! In the next few weeks we will decide and relinquish a spot. Someone else can have the ADR at that point.

It's not a big deal to me. I'm not trying to cheat anyone and truly resent the inference.

It's only a spot in line and someone can have one of those spots in the next two or three weeks. If you're desperate to eat at the California Grill at 5:30 pm on some night the last week or January or the Kona Resort at 5:00 pm same night I'll even post here and tell you when the spot come open.

I'm not an evil person but feel free to tar and feather me if you feel so inclined. Fill yer boots.

You know on second thought Ish&DrJones I may instead auction that ADR on EBay. Finance my trip and all. How much you got? ;)

Ooooooooohhhh Now I'm going to be unpopular.

I have had ressies, then called to change, booked the new one and then canceled the old one...no one did any hollering, tho I have heard some folks have had a CM give them a hard time with even doing that.

It is rude not to cancel a ressie as soon as you know you don't need it.

It also seems odd that one can't book 2 ressies 5-6 hours apart..that isn't double booking unless you plan not to use one, and it didn't sound like that

i have actually 2 reservations for CM on 8/28 for dinner one is for 4 people and the other is for 5 (we weren't sure if we would be having a friend join us for dinner). I didn't want to lose the one for 4 since it is at an ideal time and the one for 5 is a little later. I did book the reservations under a different name but I used the same phone number I haven't checked to see if disney canceled one but I am planning on canceling the one for 5 tomorrow.

Do you think they canceled it even thought it was under another name and I never gave the reservation number w/ one of them and it was for a different party size?

I am sure that everyone who wanted the ADR that the OP will take appreciates your advice on how to cheat the system.
I can see why you would say that, because people are telling the OP to make them under different names and etc. However I disagree with you that it's cheating the system, since the times the OP wanted are so far apart that it would not a double booking of ADR's.

Yep, add me to the list. I wanted to book a 3:30pm lunch at Crystal Palace and then a 9pm dinner at Whispering Canyon. Technically, even though the 3:15pm is my lunch, it is dinner time, so they won't do it. How annoying!!!!

I'm going to choose to ignore all the comments questioning how & when you want to eat! If you are doing duplicate ressie's and such. To me if you don't want to eat lunch until 3:30 & dinner at 9:00 that is your own decision to make!!!!

I would call back to make sure you didn't get a total nut case on the phone! We have never had our dining hours questioned before! And we do choose to eat at off times! Darn as tough as it is at getting an ADR, you have to choose off hours! So I just have to question the info you were given. Just sounds odd to me!

I'm not saying you are, but responding to the rest of your post - in the intervening weeks, between when you made the double-bookings and when you determine which one to cancel, dozens if not hundreds of other Guests are likely trying to get one of those reservations and can't; and posting here when you cancel (there's even a thread for that on either the restaurant or ddp board) doesn't benefit the millions of Guests who don't know about the DIS. I know - can you believe those people can have a successful vacation? ;)

Yeah, sure, what the heck - let me know how you'd like to be berated and I'll be happy to cooperate :teeth: That way you can't get mad at me for what I say ;)

What's really odd is, you can book lunch at Sci-fi at 2:30, and dinner at Mama Melrose's at 4 PM, and that's NOT a double booking because it's different meal periods. But try combining that 4 o'clock Mama Melrose's ressie with one at Raglan Road at 10:45 and - nope! Dinner = dinner = double-booking.

I can see why you would say that, but it IS cheating the system because Disney has a rule in place - albeit irregularly enforced - and posters are giving the OP advice on how to get around that rule, i.e. cheat the system.

This is also a good thread so please be kind to others.......we can be civil even in a reservation frenzy

Bravo!!! ITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure why you would be given a hard time. THose are technically a dinner and a lunch. A CM did tell me a few weeks ago they were going to crack down on double bookings and cancel them if they were caught. Not sure how true but that is what he said.

Personally, I don't see how anyone could possibly book a ressie 180 days in advance. I mean I am a big planner when it comes to vacations, but 180 DAYS OUT? Boy, we make ours when we arrive at the park that day....and that is pushing it to plan our day around our food ressie....more power to you all:thumbsup2

When ever I call to make an ADR I am on hold for awhile, I assume taking calls, when would the CM's have time during their work day to go thru guest bookings to cancel ADRs?:confused3

That is the reason my family and I never purchase the DDP. We would never know where we would want to eat at 180 days out, so because of that sometimes while in WDW we never make ADR's. Instead we like to have a lot of meals offsite, at various cs locations in WDW, Rainforest Cafe in DTD and other times when we have been in the Atrium Club lounge we have made a meal out of what they serve at 5:00 PM.

Ok, every one-let's play nice. Remember its a dinner reservation, not an appointment for open heart surgery. OP, could it be you just got a person on the phone who was perhaps not as "on the ball" as one would like. Did you try simply calling back? I seriously doubt is Disney has some secret agenda to prevent you from eating.

I am sitting on a Le cellier Dinner on 9/22 that I may not use...:stir:

I had been thinking about posting it on the trade thread as soon as we are 100% sure we won't use it...

Then I was thinking earlier that I would PM a random nice Diser and see if they could use it. After this catfight, I might just do that! So be nice!

please try to be civil to each other.......we are going in 18 days and we have a grand total of ONE reservation.....no big deal.....we have been to Disney 20 or so times and have eaten at alot of restaurants and we have gone and only been able to make a reservation at two or so.......This was a fast planned trip....we were not able to get "free Dining" or have we ever had free dining......we usually have DDE card .......

So this trip we were not able to get noted ts restaurants except crystal palace the night of the Halloween party.....

I hope that when we arrive we can ask the front desk......what restaurants are open on these dates and see if there is anything at all......if there is fine.....if there isnt ....we still can eat.....and have a great time in Disney

SOOOOOOO please try to be nice on this thread.......

Sounds like it depends on the CM you get on the phone. I called just a few nights ago to change an ADR for our trip the last week of Sept. I had an ADR at CRT for dinner and, after reading some bad reviews, decided to see if I could change to CG for the same night. I had to take a late ADR for CG, but I got it.

I almost forgot during the call that I needed to cancel CRT, and the CM said nothing about it. As he was ending the call, I remembered about the CRT reservation and caught him just before the call ended to tell him I needed to cancel the CRT reservation for the same night. I said, "Do you see it on your screen? It is for 7:30." He responded that it would be helpful if I could give him the ADR #. So apparently, he did not have the information pulled up on the screen in front of him. Or possibly he had already "closed out" my information on his screen. :confused3 Anyway, I was never questioned at all about a double booking.
