Wendy (me) 46 but feels 21 in mind - Disney mad, the planner
John (DH) 46 - getting almost at Disney mad as me
Glen (DS) 14 - our lovely little boy one minute, stroppy teenager the next and mature young man occasionally
Ashley (DS) 11 - the loud one! A lot of this holiday has been based around his needs with him being very special.
Thursday 18th October 2007
Weather forecast today in the 90s with 100% humidity.
John and I were up at 6.45 so we left the two sleeping beauties fast asleep. We both love first thing in the morning when the world is just waking up.
Had a word with a ranger trying to catch a squirrel, he said people like seeing the critters as he called them until they decide to nick customers hamburgers, then theyre not so keen. Returned for breakfast and caught the boat at 9am to MGM Studios. Quite busy down Hollywood Boulevard but very quiet around the back of the park.
Ashley decided hed had enough and had one of his moments. He refuses to walk with us, talk or generally just get on with things, so he parks himself down on the sidewalk and will not come and have a photo with one of his favourites so takes one of us instead. We have learned its best to ignore him until he snaps out of it (which he does with alarming speed) rather than try to persuade him to cheer up!
We walked on the Backlot Tour and then came across some characters.
Woody made the queue who were waiting applaud us on our anniversary and insisted on giving me lots of kisses and cuddles so when we moved over to Buzz I told him what Woody had done and he did the same.
We saw Indiana Jones which was lovely respite from the heat outside. By now it was approaching our time for Sci Fi lunch but we stopped with Monsters Inc characters first.
This is where it went pear shaped! Checked in at Sci Fi and told to wait so we nipped in the shop/waiting area, after only about 5 minutes the seater came out and shouted Wendy - thats me! So off we set, we were seated along one side and Ashley got put next to a speaker, so he starts to moan its too loud but soon got caught up in the films (he watches anything - literally!) then the seater came back and asked our surname, turns out there was another party called Wendy who should have been seated first but as we were there we could stay - well it wasnt my fault, she should have used the surname as well! The waiter brought the menus and I asked for the kids meals and I could tell he wasnt happy.
The food was nice but when the bill came he had adjusted the bill and had charged an adult meal for Ashley at $11.99 instead of the $4 or so it should have been and wrote over the top hot dog which is what we had ordered. It made his 18% tip a bit bigger, I pointed out that Ashley has special needs and food is an issue with him, at this the waiter said oh I didnt know, you should let your server know when you sit down. This left a sour taste in my mouth - why should I have to explain just to keep the waiter happy! Total cost including alteration $131.42. I let the hotel know Ashleys problems when we returned and it was put on our future bookings, I hate having to explain his problems to other people especially in front of him. We left a little upset and went on Great Movie Ride, when we came out the heavens must have opened everywhere was soaked. We noticed people were queuing up for the parade so found a prime spot. Hit and miss whether the weather would postpone it but it went ahead OK.
Then went to find the Incredibles. Had a photo with Mr and Mrs then waited for Ratatouille characters by which time Frozone had turned up with Mr. Incredible so had to go back there!!!!
We took the boat back to the hotel at 5.30, it was very, very hot. Went straight into the pool until 7.30pm, got changed and took another walk around the Boardwalk making our way back to the hotel to watch Toy Story on the outdoor screen on the beach. Went back to the lounge to pick up some supper.
