I went out yesterday in T+D = 168 for what was supposed to be appx 5 miles on the greenway. A storm on Sat night put a tree down less than a half mile in, so I turned around and started to drive home. Then I realized that one of the other access points wasn't too far out of the way, so I headed down there. Got on the greenway and started running, trying to do some runner math as to know how far to go before turning around because I had just paused my watch earlier, thinking I'd finish in the neighborhood. Got to the nominal turnaround point, but things felt ok so I kept going a little more and finally decided to turn around and headed back. I see the road that tells me that I had gone too far and circle back to the path to the park. Where I turned off the greenway to go back up to the park turned out to be... houses. (A number of neighborhoods have paths directly to the greenway). Um, ok. So back going north and finally realized that the road I thought I was approaching wasn't that road and that I needed to keep going. Long and short of it is that being on a section of greenway that I hadn't been on in years had me morphing parts of where I was with where I normally run, and I would up with a 7 mile run. Whew! So good prep for the upcoming half, but more than I had planned in that humidity. And thinking that I was almost at the park, I wound up walking the 6th mile, and then resumed running for the 7th mile, but mile 6 kept my average pace from being down closer to 11:10. That said, I'm not going to sweat it ( no pun intended).
And that's how I accidentally ran 2 extra miles yesterday....
