When did it become acceptable to replace the word "and" with "an"?

It drives me nuts when I read something like, "my friend an I went to the movies". I know it's not a typo because I see it all the time (here on the DIS). Is it really that difficult to type the "d"? Come on people, it's a completely different word that doesn't mean the same thing. :rolleyes2

Probably around the time it became acceptable to say "of" instead of "have". As in "You should of grabbed a fast pass". Drives me bonkers.

I've seen it here occasionally, but not enough to think it was anything other than a typo/autocorrect (which yes, does stupid things once in a while). :confused3

I can say that posting here, several times I have caught the mistake before I submitted the post. If someone is typing, they may think they hit a key hard enough but didn't, especially those like me who have to look at the keys and not the text in order to post.

I use my phone to DIS from work and my auto correct doesn't pick it up if I pass over the "d". I know the difference between the two and usually catch it, but I'm sure I have missed it.

I always assume that is a typo. I will continue to believe that since the grammatical errors on here are already enough to make my head explode. "Should of" is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I figure that happens from people who spell phonetically. Maybe they don't realize there is a "d" on the end, especially if they don't visualize the word.

I don't have a smartphone, so I didn't take auto-correct into consideration. I will try not to judge so harshly when I see these mistakes. It will silently drive me insane though. ;)

Grammar errors usually bug me (I'm not perfect when writing informally on the DIS, but I try to be mostly correct) and I haven't picked up on this one yet. I would assume that it's a typo not picked up by auto-correct in most cases.

Don't worry... It drives the Smartphone users crazy too!

I had a funny typo the other day. I told someone to wash with "soup" instead of "soap"! Lol

I only know of one poster who consistently does this and I honestly think she doesn't know any better. Other than that, I'd just chalk it up to a typo.

I'm a stickler for grammar too, but this is one error that I don't see all that often. I tend to agree with others who say it's probably a smartphone auto-correct issue.

You really think there are people that are posting in English on message boards that don't know how to spell the word, "and"? :confused3

I honestly have not seen or heard this one.

I haven't seen that before, but what drives me crazy is seeing "prolly".
