:rotfl: :rotfl2: but. seriously. I would if I could! :thumbsup2
that would be fun!! We would NOT miss the parade!! LM & I kinda missed it last year but anyway.... :rolleyes1

I LOVED the Norway breakfast also! WAY better experience than at dinner - better food, character interaction, not as hectic, you name it. princess: are somehow more fun in the morning! And those cheesy potatoes! :cloud9:

Oh! You know they were good if I gave up pastry for them! Yummy!

I was so happy that we were able to be seated early, too!

I love the matchy Soarin' shirts! :thumbsup2

I so wanted to eat at Akershus on our trip...we could have gotten a very last minute ressie, but Jeff and the boys totally outvoted me. UGH! Maybe SOMEDAY I'll have a Princess meal. princess:

Cute pictures of Billy with Belle. I love that he was holding her hand!

Do the princesses that are there change? No Snow White or Cinderella seems odd.

Both of our family visits have been during F&G festival. I think I'm a little spoiled by it! I don't do the butterflies  although Jeff and the boys went in. I visited Tink and her friends in the fairy garden instead!

Chapter Five: Open up that Golden Gate!

Our weary troupe stumbled into the lobby of the Comfort Inn. It was somewhere around three or four in the afternoon and I was praying that our room would be ready so we could just unload the van and crash for a bit. A middle-aged woman behind the counter wearing rhinestone-studded eyeglasses on a chain greeted us with a long story about a group of patrons from the bar across the way that got nasty with her the night before. Seems she wouldn’t let them rent a room to continue their party after the bar closed and there was a big ruckus.

“Y’all missed all the excitement!” she gushed. “I had to call the police!” Ed gave me a sidelong look and let out a little sigh. :rolleyes2 “There must’ve been THREE or FOUR police cars here,” she continued excitedly. “They took all those drunks away, and let me tell you, they didn’t go easy!” Gee, that’s really what we want to hear. :worried: We’re checking into a hotel with our two children on a Saturday night and there’s a rowdy bar nearby??

“…. and then, not a half-hour later, there was a HUGE accident on the highway and fire-trucks and ambulances came screamin’ from everywhere and…,” she continued to recount the horrible tale of fiery death on the highway we had just been traveling, and would continue to travel the next day.

What could we do? :confused3 Until she finished checking us in, we were her captive audience! Eventually, we were given our room key card and we were able to extricate ourselves from her thoughtless jabber. I wondered how many times that day she had told the same story, hoping that the extent of the nighttime “excitement” had been gradually inflated with each telling.

Back out to the van we went. It was a short drive around the building to our assigned room and we pulled up right outside the door. Knowing that we would have this one night here, I had packed a separate bag with one set of clothing for each of us, plus some toiletries, so we wouldn’t have to unpack all of our luggage. We opened the door and were greeted by the lovely air conditioning! Ahh! Everyone took their shoes off and flopped down on one of the two Queen beds.

The room was pretty standard and completely forgettable… I don’t recall any problems with it. Ed turned on the television and we all just relaxed for the next couple of hours. (Well, three of us relaxed. Billy kept pacing up and down across the floor and wouldn’t lie down, no matter how hard we tried to coax him.) Sitting still for so many hours strapped into his seat must’ve been very difficult for him :hyper: and he just needed to burn off some steam.

I did my best to keep him quiet… Ed had dozed off while watching TV… but I was feeling pretty sleepy myself. I tried to read a magazine, but my eyes kept crossing and I'm sure I must've dozed a bit myself. As it neared dinnertime, however, Tricia and Billy both began asking when we were going to eat, so we all got washed up a bit and headed out in search of food.

We found a little place that looked pretty decent… sorry, can’t remember the name, but good reporter that I am, I remembered to snap a picture!

We came. We saw (the menu). We ate. We left. More than that, I cannot recall. I believe we may have stopped at a Rite Aid along the way back for some Doan’s Pills… Ed’s back was bothering him. We went back to the Comfort Inn, got into our jammies, and turned in early.

Woo-hoo, wasn’t that an exciting evening??

Seriously, we were so glad there were no lights and sirens around the hotel that night!

The next morning, we were up early. We washed and dressed and partook of the Continental Breakfast served in the lobby. Coffee, tea, juice, cereals, and.... waffles?? There was a waffle iron set up with a pitcher of batter next to it so guests could pour and press their own! Well, they weren't shaped like Mickey, but hey, who are we to complain?! We ate our fill and enjoyed watching the large television set up in the "dining" area. All-in-all, we were pleased with our stay here.

Settled up at the front desk and went back to the room and packed up. Hit the bathroom one last time and then it was back on the road again, with Ed driving (of course!)

The day before had been exciting because we were finally on our way. This day was doubley exciting because in just a few hours, we would be in Walt Disney World at last! :smickey:

Ed’s goal was to get to Florida by lunchtime. I thought that was a bit optimistic since Map Quest had estimated that it would take us 3.5 hours just to cross the rest of South Carolina. Nevertheless, we kept moving along, listening to a new audio book and talking about this and that to pass the time. Ed’s back was holding out pretty well, but he grumbled a bit every time we ran into a bit of traffic. I, on the other hand, was much more comfortable now that we were traveling during the day and I did not have to worry about trying to get some sleep while slumped over in an awkward position in the front seat.

Can’t remember if we ever made it to Florida for our lunch break… we may have had to stop in Georgia, but it sure was a welcome relief to finally catch sight of the Florida State line!! (Yes, we must’ve taken a break in Georgia for lunch because I remember wanting to stop for the little glasses of orange juice, but Ed was anxious to keep moving.)

DSCN0243.jpg

We still had over two hours of driving left! But psychologically, it helped us to know that we were already in the same state as the Mouse! Don’t know exactly where, but this must’ve been Florida:

DSCN0233.jpg

Eventually, we began seeing signs that our long journey was nearing its end:

DSCN0259.jpg

And finally (FINALLY), the most welcome sign of all!!
Yippie!! We’re here! We’re here!!

I'm having to laugh a little. . . you were definately in St. George, South Carolina (10 minutes from my house). The little restaurant you visited is called Georgio's and it is Greek/Italian. I'm glad you got a little rest in our state! Looking forward to the next update!

Yes! That does sound familiar! I remember that it was an interesting mix of menus!! :rotfl:

Thanks for letting me know the restaurant's name... I was so road-bleary I couldn't remember!!

Glad you stopped in to say hello!!

I knew you would comment on the shirts!! :goodvibes

Sigh... I'm sure the boys won't mind hugs from pretty ladies in a couple of years! ;) You may get your princess meal yet!!

Cinderella only appears at her Royal Table in the MK, but the storybook characters change around a bit at Akershus... I understand that sometimes Snow White is there... Belle is always there in her gold ballgown!

Kathy

Great update Kathy! Love all the Princess photos (even "Princess" Mary Poppins....:confused3) Why, oh why can't someone get Aurora a good wig though? Those swoopy bangs kill me!! :rotfl2:

We really enjoyed the Storybook breakfast back on our Nov 2007 trip with the big "herd" - great food, beautiful restaurant, and lovely character interaction!

That's great that you got to ride Maelstrom so early - gotta love that skinny polar bear and crazy troll! :goodvibes

Cool shirts!! :thumbsup2

Sara

That sounds like a great breakfast and so many princesses! I'll have to tuck that info away for when I finally have a cohort in doing princess meals!

Sara

The shirts were a present from Aunt Rae on the last trip... Soarin' is her favorite Disney attracton!! :goodvibes

I think all the princesses were a bit "wiggy"... except for Princess Poppins... I do believe that was her own hair. AND, she seemed to have a real British accent, too!

Kathy

I agree w/ mom2mek...Aurora's wig was bad...that was some major bang action going on :rotfl:

I'm glad you didn't cancel your Princess bfast too. Your princess were almost all difernt then who we saw in March...they sure change that rotation alot. I'm glad we had more of the classic fairytale Princesses. princess:

Your picture w/ Belle is very nice too, that is so cute about how gentelmanly Billy was w/ her :lovestruc

the food was good...I liked the potato caserole too! YUM!

Looking forward to seeing pictures from ther festival and your day!

Fingers crossed! LOL...late in our trip Dan does accompany me to see the fairies. Hmmm....thinking it didn't have much to do with wanting to meet Tink. :rotfl:

Ahh..I see. Very exclusive, that Cinderella! princess:

Just catching up -- loved the Akershus update. Sounds like you guys had a great time! Can't wait to hear about Flower and Garden festival!

Nice update! We love Akershus, too (well, except for Sarah. She doesn't eat eggs, bacon, or sausage...can't see doing b'fast unless it's FREE DINING!). We are planning on going there again in Sept. It'll be a nice short walk from BC! I wonder how much longer my girls are going to want to do princess meals, too. Allison, my DD7, doesn't want to wear ANY more clothes with characters on them :sad2: Second children grow up so fast (peer pressure doesn't help, either).

It was so sweet that Billy held Belle's hand like that :goodvibes It was really nice of the CM not to charge you for his breakfast ;) One reason we go during free dining is that Sarah doesn't eat enough to feed a bird at buffets (ok, I forgot about dessert!).
DSC01353.jpg

(this is the dessert she fixed herself at Chef Mickey's!)

Still, we sometimes pay for a kid's meal OOP for her (at non-buffets), and then bank her adult meals, so we get another TS :cool1:

**I need to add something to my last post that I completely forgot. (Ed reminded me.) I suppose it slipped my mind because we didn't take a picture. :confused3

One of the CM handlers that was escorting the princesses around the room really made a connection with Billy. He was a little person and Billy was just facinated by him. Here was this adult man with facial hair who was almost a head shorter than he was! As soon as he came over, Billy turned to him, cocked his head and put his face close to the CMs to get his attention. He was so happy when the CM talked to him... darn, wish I had his name... stupid lost notes.... :headache:

Anyway, we explained to the CM (as we do all character handlers) that Billy was autistic. Fortunately, the CM had some experience with autistic children and he didn't seem to mind that Billy was so interested in him. He talked with us for a while and came back to the table to talk some more after the princesses had finished their rounds. When he came around the second time, Billy got up and gave him the biggest hug, just like he was an old friend!! He really made Billy feel special... I can't believe I forgot about it!!

I'll "serve" that up as soon as I can!

Um. Okay. Sorry, very lame... :rolleyes1
