AmyT's Journal (Comments Definitely Welcome!)

Great job with the workouts & mental conditioning. You will be ready for that cruise. I checked online & my library has the EFL book so next time I go I'm going to grab it.

I am pretty sure we have had the turkey dinner and it was YUMMY! Haven't tried the goulash though. I'll have to look into that. :)

Congrats on making yourself get to the gym!! You are going to be SOOO ready for your cruise!

Have a good day. :sunny:

Hi Amy,

Way to go on getting up and going to the gym....It was worth it wasn't it???? I do that too, and then once I get going, I am glad that I did it!!!!

You are going to make it to your goal and be able to wear that bikini....I just know it.

You are doing a great job....keep up the good work!!!

Happy hump day!

Another great day! :thumbsup2 I only had to use the Jedi mind tricks a couple times yesterday, which hopefully means I am improving? Ya right… I had to take DS to the orthodontist AGAIN since he broke a wire. I can vouch for him this time – he was just talking and it popped out (last time he ate an unauthorized tortilla chip). It was quite comical – there was no way he could eat or sleep with this wire poking out of his mouth, so DH tried to cut it with nail clippers since he couldn’t find his wire cutters (not a good idea since it was on a tooth way in the back). Of course that didn’t work and he had to search and search until he finally found them and cut the wire out… It took 3 of us - DH to cut the wire, me to hold the flashlight and poor DS to hold his lips and keep his mouth wide open… I meant to measure myself on Monday, but couldn’t find my stuff. I finally located everything. My measurements are:

Arms: 11 3/16”
Chest: 33”
Waist: 28 13/16”
Hips: 38 7/16”
Legs: 21 3/8”
Bodyfat: 18.5%

I don’t know what other measurements to take, but these are the areas that still have a little jiggle to them… I have a little digital body fat measurer, I don’t know how accurate it is. I did it 4x and it was within 1% each time (18.5 is the average)… I guess I will update the numbers at the end of every month, to make sure I am making progress. The next bikini-worthy trip after we get back from the cruise is Mexico the weekend of May 5th. No gym – I had to take DD to tap. I got in my 100oz of water; 2 cups green tea and a DC:

6:15am: Egg Beaters w/FF Cheddar; Oatmeal
8:30am: FF Cottage Cheese; Blueberry Fiber Cake
11:45am: Turkey Medallions w/Mustard on Wheat; Carrots
3:00pm: Egg Whites; Apple; Almonds (1.2oz)
6:30pm: Beef Tips; Wheat Noodles; Green Beans
8:30pm: FF Cottage Cheese; FF Yogurt
WORKOUT: Walking (40min)
RESISTED: Co-Worker’s Birthday Cake; Boss’s Candy dish (why does it torture me so?)

Jane, I hope you are able to get that book, plus the BFL for Women one as well. It addresses women in different stages of their lives and how they can be successful in each stage.

Beth, we are having the goulash tonight, I'll let you know how it is!

Kate, I sure hope I am motivated enough to work out while I'm on the cruise - I know I won't be eating healthy 100% of the time... :blush:

I got the book yesterday. Its filled with great ideas. I've been so stuck with my food planning lately, I haven't even wanted to cook. This will definately improve my recipe selections for next week. The cottage cheese fudgesicle is definately not my kind of chocolate but except for that one the recipes look really good. Now, if I could just get the presentation of the food to look as good as they do in the book I'd be set. Thank you, Amy!!! :thumbsup2

Your poor son. I don't remember ever having a wire break when I wore braces and I used to eat all kinds of junk. I bet he can't wait until they come off.

Your doing great keeping track of your weight & measurements. When this challenge is over you'll have real numbers to show the difference.

I finally got the OK for my surgery!!! It will be March 22. I know it will be a rough couple days afterwards, but it will be so worth it in the end! I’ll be able to get off the pill and no more TOM. I made it to the gym after my Dr appointment, so that was a good thing. I got my 2 new swimsuits – they look pretty good. Of course I am still not 100% thrilled with how I look in the bikini, but I am working on that… I also got our cruise docs! I am getting so excited, I can hardly wait. I drank 100oz of water, 2 cups green tea and a DC:

6:15am: Chocolate Oatmeal
8:40am: FF Cottage Cheese; Blueberry Fiber Cake
11:45am: Chicken; Wheat Noodles; Green Beans; 2 Caramels
3:00pm: Zone Bar
6:30pm: EFL American Goulash (really good!); Pecans (1/4c)
8:30pm: FF Cottage Cheese; FF Yogurt; Yogurt Burst Cheerios (1/4c)
WORKOUT: Walking (40min); Weights (30min); Treadmill (30min)
RESISTED: More candy from boss’s jar
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jane, I'm glad you got the book. DS9 actually made the goulash (I cut up all the stuff, but he pretty much did the rest). It was yummy! DS wants to cook dinner again and he wants to cook the EFL Shrimp Scampi for us next week. I think we might have a little chef on our hands!
DS just got his braces on, he has a couple more years to deal with. He just needs to be more careful...
One of my goals is to get down to 15% bodyfat. I don't know why, it just sounds nice! :teeth:
Have fun on your cruise. You certainly will be ready for it. Sending prayers for your surgery next month. I bet you can't wait until thats over with.
The thing I like about the EFL book is that the recipes look fairly easy. Kind of like Rachel Rey's 30 minute meals but BFL style. I can't wait to try 'em.
I got lazy yesterday and didn’t do my Pilates, so I am just short of my Exercise Goal. I will surpass it tonight though! I have to think of how many minutes I will realistically be able to squeeze in for March – between the cruise and my surgery, my schedule will be anything but predictable. I was under a tremendous amount of stress yesterday at work and I am very proud of myself for only eating 4 pieces of candy. I could have easily eaten more, and believe me, I thought about it several times, but I would have been embarrassed to report it in my journal… :blush: I didn’t do too great at home with the snacky snackies, but I’ve done worst in the past… I drank 100oz of water; 2 cups green tea and a DC:
6:15am: Egg Beaters w/FF Cheddar; Oatmeal; PB Cookie Crisp (1/2c) w/Skim Milk (DD didn’t finish hers, don’t know why I decided I should…)
8:30am: Oat-Smart Bar (I don’t recommend this brand)
11:45am: Turkey Medallions w/Mustard on Wheat; 4 Tootsie Rolls (the jicama I brought was WAY bad and I was still hungry after my sandwich)
3:00pm: FF Cottage Cheese; Apple
6:30pm: Chicken; Wheat Spaghetti; ½ Hershey Bar w/Almonds
8:30pm: FF Cottage Cheese; FF Yogurt; Ice Cream (1/2c)
WORKOUT: Walking (40min)
RESISTED: Almonds and Pecans; Handful of Cereal; More than 1 serving of ice cream
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jane, thanks for the surgery well-wishes. I try to keep upbeat about it, but I know as it gets closer I will get a little nervous. Have you tried any EFL recipes yet?

Isn't it amazing how having to report to our journals curtails our food intake?? I hate to think of how much more I'd weigh if it weren't for this site!! Great job on gettting thru the stress! I'm waiting until next week to try the EFL recipes. I'm looking forward to some healthy new eating ideas. Have a great weekend & watch out for those empty carbs!!!! (My favorite kind.)

I made a pact with myself last night to make the next 2 weeks work! And by working, I mean keeping my eating under control. I really haven't been doing that great in the food department lately. So yesterday, I had cottage cheese and yogurt while everyone else had ice cream! :eek: It was tough, and I did have 1 bite of ice cream, but stopped at that. I will enjoy a bowl on my free day tomorrow. Same for the Girl Scout cookies that came in yesterday. I got 1 box of Samoas and tomorrow I plan on having one cookie after lunch and one after dinner. No more than that. I CAN DO IT!!!!!! :cheer2:

I am really bummed because I was all set to go to kickboxing but as I started getting breakfast ready my lower back was killing me! It is because I was exhausted at the gym yesterday, so instead of doing the treadmill or elliptical, I did the recumbent bike. I knew there was a reason I never did the bike, and this was it - it killed my back last time I did it too! So I think I am going to take the day off and do my Pilates Sculpt DVD tomorrow. At least I met my Exercise Challenge! :woohoo: I drank 100oz of water, 2 cups green tea, a DC, a Minute Maid Light and 1/2 glass of white wine:

6:15am: Egg Beaters w/FF Cheddar; Oatmeal
8:30am: Lara Bar (not the best)
11:45am: Chicken; Wheat Spaghetti; Carrots
2:30pm: FF Cottage Cheese; Apple
5:00pm: Almonds (1.2oz)
7:00pm: EFL Deluxe Turkey Dinner (not impressed); Broccoli
8:00pm: FF Cottage Cheese; FF Yogurt; 1 bite pumpkin ice cream
WORKOUT: Walking (40min); Weights (25min); Bike (30min)
RESISTED: Boss's Candy Dish; Ice Cream

Jane, yes, guilt is a powerful motivator sometimes! I did not like the Turkey Dinner, neither did DH or the kids. I won't be making it again... I need to pick out a couple recipes for next week. I know DS wants Scampi, but I'll have to try out a couple different ones as well. I think 2 per week is good!

Hi Amy,

Congrats on making your exercise goal. :thumbsup2

Good luck this week. The GS cookies are a killer. That's what works for me, promise myself I can have ONE. No more. then get the kids and DH to finish most of them (which is no problem!) so they're not tempting me.

Hope your back is feeling better. :sunny:

I did pretty good yesterday! I didn't get a workout in, but I'm glad I rested because now my back feels much better. :cheer2: I'll have to do my DVD today since I was a slug yesterday... Today is my free day, but I am going to try to take it easy. Just because I CAN eat whatever I want doesn't mean I SHOULD. :rolleyes: Yesterday I drank 100oz of water, a DC and a Minute Maid Light:

7:30am: Egg Beaters w/FF Cheddar; Joe's O's w/skim milk
10:00am: Kashi Crunch; FF Yogurt
12:30pm: Egg Salad Sandwich on Wheat; Salad w/LF Dressing
3:30pm: FF Cottage Cheese; Apple w/Cinnamon
5:00pm: Almonds (1.2oz - love those Trader Joe's mini packs!)
6:30pm: Turkey Meatloaf; Mashed Potatoes; Green Beans; 3 bites ice cream
8:00pm: FF Cottage Cheese; FF Yogurt
WORKOUT: None
RESISTED: More ice cream; Pecans
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kate, I've found the whole "promise to myself" thing is working quite well. I don't promise my kids anything unless I know I can follow through, so why can't I do that with myself? I am going to savor every tiny bite of my 2 cookies today... :hyper:
I definitely took advantage of my free day again… Over the course of the day I ate 20 Apple Spice Cookies. :eek: Yes, 20! :scared1: But before your jaw drops too far, they were each the size of a 50 cent piece or smaller and made with wheat flour, egg whites, apples and applesauce and I even used the Splenda baking blend (cookies are 25 calories each). Still, I know 20 is WAY too excessive, but at least it kept me from eating other junk… :rolleyes1 I didn’t even open the box of Girl Scout cookies, I knew better than to tempt myself. Today is back to the grindstone! I noticed the BFL for Women doesn't mention a free day, but it allows for a "mini chill" (a small piece of chocolate or 1 cookie) each day, IF you need it. I think I am going to follow the BFLW approach (which is very similar to BFL with a few minor differences) when I get back from the cruise. I drank 120oz of water, 8oz Chai Latte; a DC:
7:45am: Joe’s High Fiber O’s w/Skim Milk
9:45am: ½ peanut donut (@ grocery store)
12:30pm: Grilled Turkey-n-Cheddar Sandwich; Potato Chips
3:45pm: Celery-n-PB; Pecans (1/2c)
6:00pm: Homemade Turkey Pepperoni Pizza (3 slices)
8:00pm: Pumpkin Ice Cream (1.5c) w/Marshmallow Crème (1/4c)
WORKOUT: Pilates Sculpt DVD (55min)
RESISTED: Almonds; Girl Scout Cookies
Congrats on meeting your exercise goal again!!! :Pinkbounc Your workouts are amazing. Great idea eating the homemade cookies. Those were much better than the GS cookies.
This week I'm going to make the shrimp scampi and chili rellenos. I've never had either dish so I won't be able to compare the lowfat with the full fat verson. I'm glad you warned me about the turkey dish. I don't like squash anyway. I do like having turkey breast w/cranberry sauce though. Sometimes I even make a wrap out of it.
The BFL Book for women sounds interesting but I think I'd miss that darn free day to much. This weekend I had another free weekend, so maybe I should read that book.
Congratulations on reaching your exercise goal this month!! WTG!!!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
Hiiiiiii Amy! :)
Yay for you making your workout goal. You are doing great. :cool1:
Looks like you and I are both working on getting that eating under control. ;) I know we can do this!
I am so swollen my fingers feel like they are going to pop. This is the last time I should be getting pre-TOM bloat, which makes it a little more tolerable… I was in a BAD place last night. I had myself a good ole fashioned binge. :scared: I am so ashamed and so disappointed, but I have to get over it and focus on today. ::yes:: The good news is that all the Apple Spice cookies are gone. The bad news is they are in my stomach… :guilty: I also ate 4 GS cookies (that DH brought home). I did SO good all day, I avoided all the goodies in the breakroom, only to fall apart when I got home from the gym. :sad: I am done beating myself up and I am determined to behave today. :thumbsup2 Yesterday I drank 100oz of water, 2 cups green tea; a DC:
6:15am: Egg Beaters w/FF Cheddar; Oatmeal
8:30am: Zone Bar
11:00am (@ class): Turkey-n-Provolone w/Mustard on Wheat; Carrots
2:30pm: FF Cottage Cheese; Apple
6:30pm: EFL Taco Pasta Salad (YUM); Cauliflower; Cookies, Cookies, More Cookies :(
8:30pm: EFL Chocolate Mousse
WORKOUT: Walking (40min); Weights (30min); Elliptical (30min)
RESISTED: Cookies and Chips at class; Girls Scout Cookies (all varieties) and Chocolate Covered Nuts in Breakroom
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jane, I extended my free day into a free weekend as well. Oops... Let me know how that chili releno is. I keep flipping to that page, but I am afraid the kids wouldn't eat it. Maybe I'll make that one when they are at their dad's.

Beth, thanks! I have now successfully completed 8 Exercise Challenges in a row! :woohoo:

Heather, thanks for stopping by! I definintely need help in the food department, but after last night I think I got the urge to eat junk out of my system for a while...

Amy, yesterday is over and done with. We're on to a brand new day. Keep you focus on the many things you do right. You've got to be the queen of the exercise challenges. You always make that goal! Hang in there & you will lose. Those 6's are going to be fitting before long!

By the way, how was the chocolate mousse?

Amy...first day of a new month....keep up the good work!! :thumbsup2
and thanks for all your encouragement on my journal...it's greatly appreciated! :hug:
