Can't see any problem with that. Sometimes with AmEx gift cards I have to have the exact amount charged, like if I only have $5 on the card and I have a $10 balance, I ask the cashier to charge $5 for this card and then pay the balance with another. If not, and I just swipe it, it'll sometimes be declined.
