America's Got Talent

I thought NPH would have been a good choice

I actually didn't care for him when he was on as guest judge. Which really surprised me because normally I'm a fan. Maybe it was just an off night, but I didn't think he fit in.

You need someone who will be truthful and isn't afraid to be a little tough of them. I actually agreed with Howard Stern most of the time.

I like NPH, but I'm not sure if he'd be brutal enough? I did enjoy him as a guest judge. And I do have to admit Pierce was a complete tool as a guest judge. He didn't like any act. That's too over the top in criticism.

Really flat finish this year. I can't believe how much they are pushing the two comedians, neither one of which is funny in my opinion. I'm rooting for Oz or The Regurgitator, but I won't be disappointed if the Craig Lewis Band wins, either.

As much as I didn't care for Howard, I'm really not looking forward to cranky old Simon. I miss Sharon.

I miss Sharon too. Didn't fully appreciate her until she was gone.

Until I saw the first episode of NPH's new show last night I would have been for him to be a judge. But his new show - what was that all about? Ugh disappointing

Loved, loved, LOVED, sharon as a vocalist.
Unmatched. Totally and unbelievably amazing!!!!

I think that reason that she didn't make it any further was that instead of entertaining, EVERY single performance she did was 'preaching'.
I hate, hate, HATE, entertainers/performers who preach.
I knew she was done when she chose 'Imagine'.
Seriously. (and how overdone is that song when it comes to talent competitions)

OMG, not one U.S. (American) judge on AGT.
Yep, something is OFF.

It has kind of bothered me that such a percentage of the acts aren't American, and come here to try to get on TV in the US.

I honestly thought the same thing ::yes::

I think NPH would be a great choice for judge..and not to change the subject, but I watched NPH new show (Best Time Ever) last nite, and I thought it was pretty lame. He may soon have some free time to become a judge, lol!

We're rooting for the Professional Regurgitator. He has cracked us up from his first appearance. The whole sucking his stomach in and out, hitting his chest, the weird screaming noise, etc. It's not like he's just doing gross things (I hate freak show acts), it's his whole persona and I'm amazed at how he does it. The dry sugar out of his mouth in one of the earlier episodes.... how did he do that?!?! How does he do anything? There is just something about him that's very endearing to me. We also like Paul Zerdin, Piff and Oz a lot, but really want the PR to win!

I wondered that until I googled his real name (can't think of it off the top of my head). Apparently he was already "famous" once in the past and people were saying that he has an unrepaired cleft pallet/hole in the roof of his mouth. If you rewatch the episode where he swallowed Heidi's ring, you can actually see the ring come from the roof of his mouth. The camera got too close.

Hmmmm, interesting. DH thought the items were somewhere in his mouth (not swallowed) and obviously I knew there was some type of "trick", but it's still fascinating to me -- he's one of a kind. I was just mesmerized by his back-story last week about what he eats on a regular basis!

Hmmm ... never thought about it that way. Maybe it was her preaching that I couldn't stand. I was not a fan of the song she rapped in, Glory I think. And imho she massacred Imagine. I hated it.

How could he hide the billiard ball? That one even made me cringe.

I've wondered about this too. It seems like the only thing that really makes the show American is that it's filmed here.

Hmm. I could see that being a possibility, but to fit an entire light bulb in that opening? My DH has a hole from a partial repair of a cleft palate and even that tiny hole makes it a pain for him to eat/drink foods as they come out his nose sometimes. An opening big enough to fit the items the PR is swallowing would make it almost impossible for him to eat or drink normally.

Last night was...underwhelming.

That being said this entire season has been a disappointment. Not because of the variety of acts, but in what acts "America" was voting through on a weekly basis. Some many of the I believed were front runners I saw ousted week after week while mundane and down right vanilla acts were voted on.

Add to this that after a little research, I've learned that virtually every act that made it as far as semi-finalist all already have successful professional careers. Including the youth performers! The show is no longer a vehicle to discover otherwise unknown talents...it's just another opportunity for artists to garner larger contracts.

Lastly...Stevie Starr...the professional regurgitator...is a fraud. The guy has been traveling the world for 30 years appearing on ever major talk show, variety show and such performing this act and all it takes is a quick Google search to realize all he is is an expert slight of hand magician. I'm not saying that isn't amazing in and of itself, but to pass it off as swallowing all these objects only to bring them up without digestive juices, much less not even being wet is insulting to an audience. The fact that 30 year later and audiences still buy into it really confuses me! Not to mention that Starr has been on 6 different versions of "Got Talent" across the globe.

I used to be a huge fan of this show and looked forward to it each summer...this may be the end for me.

ITA. I've said that for a long time. Just curious....... does Britain's Got Talent or the other Talent shows have a lot of act that are not from their country?

What about the lighter fluid in the bubble? Whether or not he is actually swallowing the items or not (which I can't believe he does), what's fraudulent? Can I do it? No. Is he entertaining? Yes! When magicians say they are doing "magic" and we know it is not something supernatural, we don't call them frauds. I don't see the difference.

Ok, I'm literally falling asleep watching the show tonight. Just tell us who won and be done with it!
Off to bed, I'll read about it (and the debates) tomorrow
