I have one for Canadians! Do you know where Moraine Lake is? Have you heard of it? And where are you from?

Ontario here. Hadn’t heard of it before researching a trip, and on a Facebook group for the area a person said every Canadian know Moraine Lake. Not this one! But we did visit yesterday so know it now

Never heard of it.

Had to look it up and I definitely recognize the picture but had no idea as to the name of the lake.

Welcome! I hope you’re enjoying your trip to Alberta. I heard the Banff/Lake Louise tourist corridor was so busy this weekend that they suspended access at some points. The weather was lovely though and I hope you got to see everything you hoped to.

Heard of it and been to it. But I wouldn’t assume that all Canadian know it (though I think many/most would recognize having seen pictures of it, like Declan’s Dad, even if they don’t know its name).

A lot of people would guess “Lake Louise” if those iconic pictures came up in a trivia game.

I have heard of it (from Saskatchewan, if it matters), but that is only because I have visited the area and hiked there. It is a beautiful area.

Canadians, do you know any Canadian specific fish recipes? Particularly stews or soups?

Well, I'm sure you are familiar with New England Clam Chowder and possibly Manhattan Clam Chowder as well, but you could venture into Nova Scotia Seafood Chowder, which uses a variety of seafood, not just clams.

Canada is known for its salmon from British Columbia, its fresh fish, particularly pickerel/walleye in Manitoba, its mussels from Prince Edward Island, and its lobster from Nova Scotia (I'm sure I'm missing some, but perhaps someone else can fill in my gaps). When I order steamed mussels in a restaurant in New England, a lot of times they are advertised as PEI mussels.

I did think of you while here! We are just departing now, we had a whirlwind week filled with dinosaurs and mountains and finished with the zoo yesterday. It was so insanely busy in the Moraine Lake area and Lake Louise, especially Sunday. We stayed Saturday night at the Fairmont, absolute splurge for our 20th anniversary (plus kids!), but so worth it with the number of people around. My second time out here, but my husband and kids first time. It’s so gorgeous, every Canadian should see it for themselves!

We were in Kootenay/Banff/Jasper during the last week of June, camped in Jasper NP. Absolutely beautiful. And warm at that time. Edith Cavell meadows were full of wild flowers too! We attempted to go to Lake Louise but the traffic was ridiculous. I saw that they have now restricted access to only those with hotel reservations.

We came back through during the last week of July, midweek, and the traffic was crazy. It was cloudy and cool then. Hiked into Sunwapta Falls, lost the crowd after the upper falls viewpoint. The lower falls are more spectacular, in our opinion.

The Canadian Rockies are stunning for sure.

It was on our $20 bill back in the 1970’s!
Another one we stopped to get a picture of was Morans Curve. It is on our current $10 bill, my son got this picture…(hope it loads/attaches!)

Did you love Drumheller? It is a too-little known natural wonder, even without the world-renowned paleontology facility.

I do hope during the 2024 Copa America, 2026 World Cup or 2028 LA Summer Olympics, Canadians come and visit some of the USA's wonderful national parks. I hope to vist some of your national wonders in the future as well.

Did you love Drumheller? It is a too-little known natural wonder, even without the world-renowned paleontology facility.

It’s amazing how flat Alberta is, and then all of a sudden it drops into the canyons and such that is Drumheller. We have a 10 year old dinosaur lover, so we did it for her. But the 15 year old loved climbing the cliffs at the hoodoos. Which is a whole thing I had no idea about before researching this trip! Such amazing natural structures. I’m glad we got out that way.

And Buzz, we drove through many states in January to get to wdw. That’s what spurred this trip. We were wowed by the Appalachian’s, but I knew my family would be even more blown away by the Rockies. We have more Canada to explore, but maybe someday more USA too.
