Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

I need a perplexed emoji for this. Can you explain?
The Canadian Amazing Race is just a big travel advertisement for Canada in my opinion (from the little I have seen of it). I still enjoy the show but the American Amazing Race is more entertaining and exciting in my opinion. Because Americans travel outside their country less than Europeans, their actions and responses seem more realistic instead tv coached.

Have you seen any other seasons, beyond the first two episodes of this one? They will go abroad for a number of legs, then make their way home, just like in the American one. You'll note the ethnic diversity of our teams? That may be an advantage to some, as it has been in past seasons, depending on where they go, as quite a few of them will speak languages other than English.

I have only seen limited clips that are legal to see in the USA via YouTube. The USA edition has always had diversity and that has helped teams in the past as well. It just so how beautifully diversed our nations are. If I can legally watch full episodes of the Canadian edition, I will. Do you Canadians watch the US editions as well?

American TV basically rules up here. Anything you watch, we would watch here too. And I don’t think of the original Amazing Race as the American version, it’s just the Amazing Race. And you should definitely try and watch a full season of the Canadian one before making generalizations like “it’s one big advertisement for Canada”. Because the episodes of the original that take place in the USA, could also be said to be advertisements for the USA.

Does my family watch it? No, but we also don’t watch the Canadian one either lol. I should get us into a season, I think the kids would like it.

What American made shows do you currently enjoy?

None really. Not a big tv watcher! But, when I watched more…there wasn’t a Canadian show I watched. It was all American. That’s how much it “rules” up here. The government mandates Canadian content but I never watched any of it, except Schitt’s Creek because it’s amazing. Oh and Workin’ Moms! Wait, off on a tangent. American tv….This is Us, Greys Anatomy until Dr Dreamy was gone, some Netflix shows. We really don’t think of it as American and Canadian TV, it’s just TV.

I've never missed a single episode since Season 1. I've also never missed an episode of Phil Keoghan's newer competition series Tough as Nails. The current season is broadcasting right now and you might like this one - for the first time they are allowing Canadian contestants!

Canada and the USA are playing a great match right now. Too close to call who will win.

Edit: USA 2 Canada 2 after extra time. Penalties on the way. Wow, the USA and Canada are truly giving it their all.

Edit 2: USA wins 3-2 against Canada and moves onto the Semifinal. Great game Canada. Your citizens should be very proud of your effort tonight. I look forward to watching a rivalry rematch in the future. 🙂 ⚽ :duck:🇺🇸🤝🇨🇦👏

Many US TV shows actually started out as British shows.

Not only allowing Canadian contestants but it was filmed in Hamilton.

True but the same goes the other way as well. More of our inspired shows are exported than foreign shows influencing our television.

I have one for Canadians! Do you know where Moraine Lake is? Have you heard of it? And where are you from?

Ontario here. Hadn’t heard of it before researching a trip, and on a Facebook group for the area a person said every Canadian know Moraine Lake. Not this one! But we did visit yesterday so know it now :)
