Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

Making a knock-off recipe defeats the purpose of your question of what food item would I want to try while vacationing. I have a feeling that making one at home would not taste the same because it lacks the pinch of Disney magic.
I get what you mean but it’s the exact same recipe as WDW. It’s from Dole’s official website. I just wanted to give you the recipe if you couldn’t wait to try it.

The winning team does get a replica as do the players. The player version looks like this:

I doughnut recognize him. Should I?

Wild guess: Yvan Cournoyer

In honesty, 3 or 4 months in the summer is probably as long as you’d want to stay anywhere. It’s really pretty miserable here in the winter, coast-to-coast-to-coast. I could give you a litany of weather conditions anywhere in January and you’d probably go :scared:

Victoria, BC would like to respectfully disagree! :rotfl:

Okay, so all joking aside, the rain can get a bit gloomy here in the winter but compared to the rest of Canada our winters here are amazing!

Have you tried both and do they taste identical? I still feel like the recipe is missing the Disney magic. :wizard:

I'm just saying that as an experience (having visited both multiple times), IMO Tillamook is better if we are doing an Across the USA trip. Then again, why don't we plan on hitting both and see what the consensus is. Maybe I can change your mind...ha! You mention Ben and Jerry's, which is local to the northeast. If you were in the Pacific northwest, Tillamook would potentially be more prominent, and in the south, perhaps Blue Bunny.
I like all three. Maybe we need to plot a road trip that hits all the major ice cream manufacturers . . .

Not a huge fan of Breyers or Mayfield though. The texture is too grainy, not creamy to me.

@Buzz Rules I can cross a couple of those off my list already. I have been to Ben and Jerry's. Not sure if I would call it a "must see" for the US. I like Tillamook Cheese Factory in Oregon (which also has tons of great ice cream flavours) MUCH better. We have also done Mystic Aquarium and area.

Ones I would add to the list: Monterey Bay Aquarium in California (Chicago has a great aquarium as well) and some of the museums in DC--the Holocaust one and the art museums especially.

I suggest the Grand Canyon be added to the list. If I ever go to the States again, it will be to go there.

If the USMNT and CanMNT meet in the Nations League final this summer and held in Canada, I may consider going if it’s in Toronto/Montreal. This is all dependent on the pandemic and finances of course but it would give me an excuse for a future vacation.

Not directed specifically at you, but there is WAY more to Canada than just Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. It is a grave mistake to leave out the Prairies.

Canadians, is there an American classic food item that is on your bucket list, that you would try while vacationing in the USA?
Culvers!! Their burgers and the cheese curds are must haves when we went down to North Dakota. YUM

In Buzz’s defense (shocking, I know), it isn’t a knock-off recipe (in the sense of a copycat recipe) as it comes from Dole (as the makers of Dole Whip). You can actually find it sold in many places outside of Disney (though, as you say, might lack the “Disney magic”). But, the ingredients and methods should be the same (though might not be the same if you made at home).

Ironically @SirDuff, I feel if we met in person, we would be good friends. :confused3

I feel if we do a Canadian/American Disboarders road-trip in the future, we should rent a giant travel bus. 😂

1. If the great Canadian/American Disboarders road trip happens and you come along, we can add it to the list. It’s a fabulous national park to visit.

2. I definitely want to visit the heartland of Canada (just not during winter). I only mentioned those two places because your national team usually only plays in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver (and rarely in Edmonton).

3. I haven’t been to ND yet but that sounds delicious.

Also the Canadian Museum of Human Rights. There’s tons to do here! The Living Prairie Museum, and the Royal Canadian Mint here too! AND the Royal Winnipeg Ballet (we call it the RWB). Y’all are sleeping on Winnipeg, I’m telling you.
