Americans and Canadians culture Q&A Thread.

Canadians, how would you even define this? I can honestly say I don’t know. :confused3 We don't have a region specifically known as “The Heartland” and I could think of ways to make a case for many areas being worthy of the title. Thoughts?

It is a show that used to be on CBC? ;)

If yo look it up, it mostly refers to the Great Lakes / St Lawrence region.

You’ve mentioned a version of this many times in the thread. :flower3: I’m sincerely curious what it means to you, in terms of travel. Is there some specific set of circumstances you’re waiting for? At this point many of us have gotten tired of having lives-on-hold and have found ways to re-emerge with some feeling of security.

I have an immune condition, so I have to be extra careful due to Covid-19. I’m not a germ-a-phobe but it seems every time people think the pandemic is at an end, another outbreak (especially in China) starts up again. I’m fully vaccinated with the latest vaccine but this pandemic has really limited my vacation ability at the moment. Most pandemics in history last around 5 years or so (this was before modern medicine but we seem to be following that trend). I’m hopeful this will all be done by this summer but nothing is guaranteed.

Also have you explored Clark county outside of the Las Vegas strip?

I will agree with you on this 100%

I am immunocompromised, so Covid would be very, very serious if I caught it. I still avoid crowds, stay home as much as possible, and mask up when going out into a crowded place.

Having said that, I agree with Frozen in saying you do have to continue to live life somewhat. It’s a very fine balance, and you have to do what feels best for you. People ARE acting like it’s over, when it’s far from over. They’re just deciding now that the risk is worth it. I, and others don’t have that luxury.

Ok, enough of that talk.

Canada doesn’t really have a ‘heartland’ area. I think you maybe think that because your country has something, other countries must have it, or versions of it, and that just isn’t the case.

Still on, as far as I know. I don't watch it but it's a soapy thing set in the foothills ranch country just south of Calgary. Which is another reason one could make cases for quite a few of our regions being the Heartland.

Thanks - that does sound rough and I realize people in situations like you and @prairie_girl have had to live with anxieties the rest of us don't. It's been a loooooong 2 and a half years. :grouphug:

As for whatever-county, no I haven't. Can't think of why I'd want to. :confused3

Heartland in the USA is slang for the Mid-West and Central part of the country.

Clark county is where Las Vegas is located. There are many indoor and outdoor things to do even a few miles away from the strip. There’s more to do beyond hotels, shows, and casinos if your curious. There are other towns near by that you might find worth your time to explore while you are at your convention. :-)

Ummm...I think that was @ronandannette but I don't mind taking credit for it if it is going to make me famous.

I am not immuno-compromised and I still live my life (for the most part) like there is an ongoing pandemic. We use masks when we are shopping, at an office, etc. We will do take-out instead of eating in a restaurant. We have not traveled except for one trip that I HAD to make back home. I keep hearing stories of people that I know personally, who have avoided the virus for 2-1/2 years and just now, despite being fully vaccinated, are catching it and it is wiping them out. I don't fault ANYBODY who chooses to stay home and protect themselves, weakened immune system or not. All that means is that we have more time to plan the GREAT ACROSS NORTH AMERICA ROAD TRIP for when things go back to normal.

And the Grand Canyon is a total non-starter. I’m not an outdoorsy person and it’s not at all on my destination list.
Having been fortunate enough to have visited the Grand Canyon in my younger days and as an avid "indoorsman" - it remains 30 years later one of the most awe inspiring natural sights of my lifetime.

Stooooooppppp, you’re really making me want to go LOL
You mean Buzz's SIX Grand Canyon videos haven't been enough to convince you yet? It takes the comment of @john7994 to really get you thinking about it?

Maybe we could compromise, stay in a fancy hotel with good restaurants etc. and then just take small trips to sites around the Grand Canyon, but not keep you outdoors too much.

Do I get to go to a USMNT match on the trip if it’s along the way?:duck::rolleyes1:scratchin

I can’t go until I figure out what I’m going to talk to the Buffalo about.
