American Idol Top 4 Idol Chatter and Idle Chatter

One thing to keep in mind in re the homecomings, at least for Danny's is that the events were tied to pre-existing popular events, such as Summerfest ticket opening and a Brewers game f or which tickets were sold months ago. I knew a bunch of people who went to that game and had no idea (and no interest) that an Idol was singing at the event. It's disingenuous to say that tens of thousands of people turned out at those events solely in order to see Danny.

In re the show being fixed, I have to admit that I thought that the year Rueben won. It just seemed incomprehensible to me that Clay did not win. Then I reminded myself that I've seen tons of political elections which seem to have inexplicable results, so perhaps it is actually totally reasonable to have a surprising result. I also remember thinking that the judges didn't know what they were talking about when they kept saying Clay wouldn't sell records.

I do think if the show were fixed, that Taylor Hicks would not have won, Melinda Doolittle would have gone on farther (Simon was pimping her big time too), Daughtry would not have gone home when he did and so on.

But remember how HUGE Taylor was?!! By the end of each performance the ENTIRE audience was on their feet screaming SSOOOOUUUUUULLLLLL PAAAATRRROOOOLLLLLL! He has a HUGE, HUGE fanbase, probably because he was fun to watch. He just happened to lack the talent and modern edge actually needed to make it big!

We got to Orlando about 3, it was about a 11 hour drive. My mom and sister switched in and out.

That's not too bad... First time I went to Orlando (non Disney related) I marathoned it, stopping only once (I think) to use bathroom, eat and fuel the car. My "gas pedal leg" didn't let me forget it either.... OW.

No hatred for Adam, am very tired of the pimping that even you all can't deny anymore. The funny thing is those that are still bashing Danny who is now gone. We already seen the Adam lovers talking about how boring Kris is. But Kris has built a fan base from absolutely nothing. Not a single pimp and in fact obvious kicked to the curb stuff from the judges. I mean to say this kid doesn't have talent is really bad.

Can't wait for the finale. I think it will be a better one than if Danny had been in it. Only because I do believe Kris has a better chance right now.

I don't think the show is fixed, but it certainly IS manipulated.

It's no secret Adam grates on my nerves in the worst way. I can't stand his lizard tongue, his silent movie-esque facial contortions and I absolutely HATE his beloved screeeeeeeeeech! :scared: That being said, the nonstop pimping of him disgusts me not because they are so intent on making sure HE wins, but because I don't like it when they are this blatanly biased toward ANY contestant. It doesn't matter whether the predestined contestant is a favorite of mine or not, any time they pimp one contestant, I find it loathsome.

Last year, Simon gushed about David A all season and on the final night of competition, essentially told David C not to bother showing up for award night, because he had no chance of winning. I found that insulting. That year, I think it backfired because I think some DC voters voted EXTRA just to give him an edge. The difference is subtle. Simon said DA had it in the bag....He did not admonish all of America to get their phones and get busy voting for David A, the way he instructed everyone to vote for Adam on Tuesday.

At least last year, Simon was the only judge to act that terrible, whereas this year.....Every single week, every single judge has drilled it into America's heads that Adam WILL be in the final. That sort of manipulation does work on a lot of people and I'm sure it doesn't do the other AI contestants a world of good to hear it every week. The others have been treated like "also rans" the whole time. The only one who got treatment anywhere approaching Adam's was Danny. And while they were easy on Danny, they did not treat him like the Second Coming the way they do Adam.

Tuesday, Simon reminded everyone to vote for Adam. He sure didn't say, "Remember, Chris/Kris has been in the bottom 3 a number of times, so if you want him to stay, you need to call and vote for him." No, he let Danny and Chris/Kris fend for themselves. The above poster is right. Chris/Kris has had to fight and scrape for every bit of respect and every fan he has gotten, because every step of the way, one judge or another could be counted on (save Paula) to minimize what he had accomplished that week. It was as if it was their goal in life to bring an already humble person down a peg or two. :headache:

Katie Perry's cape was unacceptable. It was a slap in the face to the other two contestants and plain old RUDE. I'd have felt the same if it had the name of one of the other contestants on it, but OF COURSE, it had Adam's on it. No judge is ever going to say the truth.....Sometimes, Emperor Adam has no clothes and sounds sucky.

This constant shoving Adam down our throats may backfire in the end. I don't see Danny voters going over to Adam that much. They are much more likey to switch to Chris/Kris. If anyone cost Danny a trip to the finals, it was Simon telling everyone to call in and vote for Adam, not people voting for C/K. So I don't imagine anyone resents C/K. I think many Dany voters will get their phones ready and back Chris/Kris. If, at the same time, they can stick it to the judges and let them know how much we dislike the disrepect they show the contestants, that's just gravy.

I think Simon said what he said last year to fire up David Cook's audience.

Simon never told everyone to call in and vote for Adam. He said that fans of Adam's should not take it for granted that he would be in the finals and they needed to vote if they wanted him there. It just goes to show you how people read into things exactly what they want.

Adam has no control over what the judges and guests say and do. What you are suggesting is just as bad as what the judges are doing. You want to punish the contestants for something that has nothing to do with them. Sounds like a vote for the worst strategy.

Just remember all the praise that Danny got the week before after his awful performance. Not just an A plus, but an A plus plus!!! Maybe everyone thinks just like you and stuck it to the judges this week for it!

At this point, everyone has their favourites. The judges' aren't going to change anyone's mind. All the judges can do is encourage people to vote.

I'm pretty sure Katy Perry and Adam were friends from around LA before the show. I really don't think it had anything to do with the producers. Again, it's a show and they can do whatever they want :confused3

There was so much hate going around on this thread that I was trying to sit this one out but you had to go and insult Jason Castro. He was my favorite last year and he is not dirty looking. Dreads are not dirty if they are taken care of and, besides that, Jason is just so good looking with the most beautiful eyes ever.

I for one am really excited about this years final. For the first time I really like both of the performers in the final. It will be exciting listening to what they sing. Adam has an unbelievable voice and Kris has a quiet beauty to his voice. I think that we are in for a real treat next week.

Well said...I agree completely, Jason was sooooo easy on the eyes...and all around nice guy. I said before that Kris reminded me of Jason and I still think so. I too, am looking foreward to the finale.

I never understood that either. I mean he was fun to watch because he looked like he was having fun but I could never see him selling a lot of records.

Neither did I. I meant to say he had a huge fan base, because they all disappeared once the show ended

Very true. Of course it didn't help that his first release was that pathetic "Do I Make You Proud"

I am dreading hearing what they come up with this time.

Especially since Kara is writing it. Remember her "hit" (can I say that with a straight face? :lmao: ) that she did for Kathryn McPhee.. Open Toes? Here are some of the deep, meaningful lyrics :teeth:

I been needin' a girls night out
I got nothin' but hand-me-down's
I need a quick fix
To make these clothes hotter
No matter what it is
A girls gotta
The pedicure
White tip french
(french)
Legs don't make no sense
(sense)
Not rich
But I bought a diamond anklet
Keep it on
It goes with my outfit
Hey

Hey let's go
If they're not too high
Too low
I'll take them home
In purple, red, or gold
Cuz I know them boys
They like
Those open toes

Jeans all black
Hair slicked back
Baseball cap
Still cute in my open toes
Mini skirt
Feet don't hurt
Just a flirt
Too cute in my open toes
Work or play
Night or day
Do my thing
Too cute in my open toes
Never too many open toes
A girl needs plenty open toes

I'm lovin' these sling-back shoes
I like the way they stay loose
I could wear them all day
And listen to the click-clack
Shoes like this make me hate flats
Swipe that card I'm good
Another pair in leather and wood
I'm a sucker for a name brand
Skip the rack
And stick to the game plan

Hey let's go
If they're not too high
Too low
I'll take them home
(I'll take them home)
In purple, red, or gold
Cuz I know them boys
They like those open toes
Those open toes

Jeans all black
Hair slicked back
Baseball cap
Still cute in my open toes
Mini skirt
Feet don't hurt
Just a flirt
Too cute in my open toes
Work or play
Night or day
Do my thing
Too cute in my open toes
Never too many open toes
A girl needs plenty open toes

I'm feelin' down
That's when I go out
And shop till I drop
Everywhere that I want
Cuz nothing feels better
Than spending my treasure
On me
Finally
I'm where I'm supposed to be

Poe-tay-toe....Poe-tah-toe.

HowEVer Simon phrased it, it was a HUGE, ENORMOUS, GIGANTIC endorsement of Adam. Not to put TOO fine a point on it, but did he make the same sort of reminder when it came to Kris and Danny? No, of course he didn't. Because he wants ADAM back and he's pushing that agenda. He didn't say a generic, "People out there need to vote for their choice and not assume the person will automatically sail through." No, he waited for Adam's critique and specifically reminded voters that they couldn't count on ADAM sailing through. (For God's sake, save the Screecher! Save the Screecher!)

If anyone seemed at risk, it was Kris since he had been in the bottom three on several occasions. Heck, HE should have gotten the "remember to vote for Kris because he's been at risk before" if anyone got that extra bit of help.

But I don't think ANY of the three should have gotten the "Class Favorite" seal of approval by way of a reminder that all his fans needed to vote in order to make sure he got in the finals. It's one thing for a judge to say they'd give the edge to a certain performer, or they prefer one performance over another. That's not so bad. But last year's version of, "I don't think you have a chance," and this year's "All Adam's fan's need to get on the phone and vote for him" (and the understood "Kris's and Danny's can piss off because they are bit players") is quite another. :rolleyes1

I've never even heard of that song :lmao::lmao: In Kara's defense though, she has written some huge hits. I was surprised to see some of the stuff she wrote!

Gwen Stefani: "Rich Girl"
Christina Aguilera: "Aint No Other Man"
Pink: "Sober"
Jessica Simpson: "A Little Bit"
Enrique Iglesias: "Escape," "Don't Turn Off the Lights"
Clay Aiken: "The Way"
Britney Spears: "Brave New Girl"
Hillary Duff: "Fly"
Kally Clarkson: "Walk Away" and "I Do Not Hook Up"
Ashley Simpson: "Pieces of Me," "La La," and "LOVE"
Pussycat Dolls: "Beep"
Miley Cyrus: "We Got the Party"

I don't actually like half these songs, but they were big hits. Hopefully there's something good for the winner... which hasn't actually happened yet

Damo - I always find myself agreeing with your posts. I can't stand the blatant manipulation that happens on the show - especially with Simon. I think that really backfired on Danny this year because the more hypocritical & far-fetched the judges became with praise for his mediocre performances (not to mention the inordinate amount of time spent on his back story) the more outraged viewers became. The backlash on the Internet became enormous and the vote evolved into "anybody but Danny" for the final 2. There's an argument to be made that Danny was "punished" by the voters because the judges overpimped him. The same could well happen to Adam.

I admired the dedication of Kris's fans who not only managed to get him into the top 13, when he had zero presence during the auditions, but have managed to get him into the finals. He's kind of growing on me, though he doesn't even come close to Adam in vocal skills and stage presence.

Adams' performances at the Zodiac Show and Upright Cabaret are more indicative of what you'll see at his stage show than what you're seeing now on the American Idol stage where he has to try and appeal to the lowest common denominator and be careful not to offend the judges. Kris will give a nice low-key show with lots of acoustic guitar and piano accompaniment and slowish tempos. Both will be good and both will find an audience. Personally, I know whose show I'll be going to see - and it's not the low-key one.

This is in response to posts on this thread as well as some of the other AI threads that I've seen come up. Ok watch out, this is gonna be long.

First of all, I just find it funny that all of the "this show is fixed" comments are coming up. This happens every single year! Simon could not stand Taylor Hicks, so why did the producers "let" him win? And last year, the judges all gave David Archuleta a tongue bath every week as you all call it, so why did the producers "let" David Cook win? While I do agree that the judges will try to manipulate things a bit, this show is not fixed people! If so, the "chosen one" would have won every year. Two years ago, did Melinda win? No. Last year, David Archuleta was the "chosen one" and did he win? No. This was only one year ago! I remember that constantly people would complain about how this show was so fixed and it wasn't fair that David Archuleta was going to win because the judges/producers were "shoving him down our throats." I would think just last year alone is proof enough that this show isn't fixed. That's why I was kinda glad David Cook won just to show everyone that this show isn't fixed. I would say that I want Kris to win just to prove that this show isn't fixed. But then next year, the comments about the show being fixed will show up once again, just like every other season. I have to say that I just always find these posts amusing.

I've also noticed that there are many Danny fans who will now be voting for Kris, solely for the reason that they can't stand Adam. Seriously? Don't you have anything better to do with your time? If you don't like either contestant and wouldn't consider buying cd's from either, why would you waste your time voting? In season 3, I couldn't stand either of the two in the final 2. Did I vote? No. Why should I even care who won at that point? Sorry this mentality (just like VFTW) just seems so childish to me. I say vote for who you like and if you really don't like either contestant than don't even bother voting!

And all these posts about Katie Perry endorsing Adam not being fair are really ridiculous. How on earth is this unfair???? She's a celebrity showing off who her favorite contestant is. What's the big deal? Can any of you honestly say that you will now be voting for Adam just because Katie Perry likes him? I seriously doubt that. During the elections, many celebrities were vocal in who they supported. If my favorite celebrity was voting for Obama/McCain/whoever else, would that make me change my vote? Heck no! And I'm sure it wouldn't change others votes either. Other celebrities have picked their American Idol favorites. What about when Jennifer Hudson was on earlier this season? She let us know that her favorite contestant was Lil. Does anyone remember posts about how that was unfair? I sure don't. And that's because there's nothing wrong with them showing who their favorites are. Just because it's Adam it was unfair. If Katie Perry's cape had said Kris on it instead, no one would have even batted an eye over that.

Seriously, what could Adam/the judges/the producers do that isn't unfair? Adam goes first...it's not fair. Adam goes last...it's not fair. Adam goes somewhere in the middle...it's also not fair. The judges liked Adam's performance...it's not fair. Shall we make a list of everything about Adam that isn't fair? It's getting to the point where I really can't help but laugh over some of the things about Adam that "aren't fair."

Oh and for those of you that are boycotting the show because your favorite didn't win....I seriously doubt the producers feel threatened. :rotfl:

Ok now flame away! I'm ready. :lmao:

I never understood that either. I mean he was fun to watch because he looked like he was having fun but I could never see him selling a lot of records.

Yeah, I didn't get it either. I really didn't think he was that entertaining to watch, personally. I never thought he was dancing, just thought he had a bee stuck in his pants and he was trying to get it out. :scared:

I've never even heard of that song :lmao::lmao: In Kara's defense though, she has written some huge hits. I was surprised to see some of the stuff she wrote!

I don't actually like half these songs, but they were big hits. Hopefully there's something good for the winner... which hasn't actually happened yet

HA! I've never even heard of 3/4 of those songs. Were they really big hits? When I think of creative talent, I'm not really thinking of songs written for Hillary Duff or the Pussycat Dolls. I guess that's not fair of me to say, b/c she is out doing the best she can. But for someone with her attitude...yeah, I don't think it's warranted.

Very true. Of course it didn't help that his first release was that pathetic "Do I Make You Proud"

I am dreading hearing what they come up with this time.

It doesn't really seem to matter who writes it, it always sounds like this:

All my life I struggled
All my life I tried
Many days I persevered
Many nights I cried

Then I took my puppy
And we headed to the west
We had to find that rainbow
Had to leave our safe warm nest.

Life can be so sad
With challenges on the way
But I finally have made it
Today is now my day.

Oh ya baby
Doo doo de doo mmm mmmmmmm
When life gives you lemons
Make lemonade

(key change)

Oh ya baby (insert growly voice here)
doo doo de doo mmmm mmmmmmmm
When life gives you lemons
You make lemonaaaaaaaaaaade.

No flames from me!! :thumbsup2

As for the fix, I don't think the WINNER is fixed but the road to the winner is manipulated totally for ratings. They know they have to deliver a specific number of households to their audience and the only way to do that is to deliver passion and drama.

Two lukewarm contestants in the finals does not do that. That happened in Season 6 and they can't chance doing that again. Last years finale was their 3rd best rating EVER. They needed to do something to bring people back this year or the stations lose money. AI is Fox's cash cow, they line their pockets with it and they will do whatever it takes to keep the suspense going.

Look at the passion this show has riled up this year. I have NEVER seen it so crazy and it totally reminds me of the 2008 Presidential election. What people have to realize is they CANNOT vote someone off (which I've always wished they could) they can only support their own contestant. But AI knows just how to keep them believing that they can!

It's become amazing interesting and the only winner, in the end, will be the sponsors. Realistically, that is ALL this is about. It's not about singers, record deals or stardom, it's about advertising revenue and they do it like the Superbowl seasonly. They have succeeded again this year. This years ratings are off the chain. Their number double the second show in their time slot!
