American Idol Thread

Which is why what really matters is what the consensus is, and the best indicator of the consensus is how successful the performer is in their career after American Idol. That is an objective measure of their quality as a recording artist.

I completely disagree. Jennifer Hudson went on to win an Oscar.

Not for me. Like I said, "IMHO". I don't think she was the most talented. Someone else may.

I thought she was a robot and I didn't enjoy her AT ALL. Just because there are a zillion more people who do like what she is doesn't make her the most talented to ME.

I like to be entertained. I like a performer who uses the stage to his advantage, the whole stage. I would rather DIE than watch a performer who stands behind a mike just singing... that's ME.

I grew up LOVING James Brown and Earth Wind and Fire. These people gave incredible concerts, they worked the stage. If I just wanted to hear a performer, I can put on my ipod.

David Cook ENTERTAINS me. I never know what he's going to do. But he works an audience, he doesn't just sing. He has an incredible amount of depth that goes right through me... and he is nowhere NEAR my physical "type".

Syesha and David A bore the heck out of me. I can't even watch them because they turn me off so much. The music may be okay, both of them can sing but the don't ENTERTAIN me.

I don't expect the world to agree with what I like, it's just what I like. And no billboard chart or record sales reflect what I feel is talent. It's individual.

There is a major difference between what is talent and what is successful. Some of the most successful people are FAR from talented, just lucky. Some of the most talented people are singing on corners. It's the luck of the draw.

Who do you think was better in that season?

I think Bo Bice was better. Is that because I like the kind of music he sings, the way he sings and the fact that I detest country music? Probably. Once again, it's my opinion. Noone else has to agree.

Seriously, with the exception of David Cook, is anyone going to buy a cd from any of these people? If David A. wins (perish the thought), he will soon be forgotten. He just doesn't have what it takes to last out there in the real world of music.
I predict that David C will have the most CD/download sales of all of them.

Well - I thought perhaps I was the only one in America that doesn't get the David A. thing. I say he's borderline "good" at best. I don't frequent this thread but I came on this morning just to see what people were thinking. "Crushed the competition" comment by Simon left me dumbfounded. He's not a horrible singer by any means, but he doesn't do anything unique - all of his performances seem the same to me. He doesn't relate to the audience well. Quite frankly, I think he should have been voted off weeks ago. I don't get it.
When Simon said that David A "crushed the competition," I thought, "What has he been smoking?" HELLO! Did you not hear the far superior David Cook?

Jason was so happy to be voted off. Did y'all hear him say he was relieved because he didn't want to learn 3 songs for next week?

I totally agree with you! :thumbsup2

He CRUSHED my eardrum with a note that broke the sound barrier at the end of Love Me Tender...:scared:

Simon lost all credibility with that line. Randy I expect it from, Paula... well, whatever she babbles is all Paula... but Simon USED TO say what other people were thinking.

Now he sounds like the bought off trash the rest of them are.

I'm sorry but I don't agree I believe that Chris Daughtery sp?? was much much much more talented then Taylor.

Yeah, I agree, where is Taylor now?????? Daughtry was much better but better off that he didn't win and got to go out and tour and get a recording contract on his own.

For example personally I think Elliott Yamin has been one of the most talented performers on the show technically.
But I absolutely understand that even when trying to look at talent objectively not everyone agrees with me.
(understatement of the year) :rotfl:
Then when you bring in the subjective stuff and people start considering musical style, personality, hotness factor (admit it - it's big on AI) I know there's no way Elliott even makes it into the top 5 or even 10 for most folks.
Yep, I remember the goat boy comments. :rolleyes1

I remember them too...and I totally agree with you about his talent. Elliott was probably my favorite contestant of all time on AI. Which is surprising because I don't usually listen to R&B-tinged pop, but there's something about his voice that is so smooth I could listen to him sing anything. One of the few AI alum CDs I've bothered purchasing.

It still takes "talent" to be a successful recording artist -- it just requires additional talents to be a successful recording artist than just singing well.

I have a sneaking suspicion that we'll get no spoilers this week, because they close the set starting with the Final Three.

Is anyone thinking about going to the tour this year?

FYI, the presale starts tomorrow and they are releasing the presale code today at 10 am.

This is the first year I have wanted to go to the concert since I liked the majority of the top 10. We are going to Atlantic City since it is Saturday show and my DH and I are making a mini-weekend out of it. Yeah :cool1:

My dd and I will go. We went last year too. It was a lot of fun. There is no presale where I live for some reason, just the general on-sale on Saturday.

Ok, just checked Ticketmaster and I was wrong, they have added a pre-sale date tomorrow. Where do the codes come from?

Erika,

Try the pop tarts website. It said the code would appear there. (This was after I clicked on the American Idols area.) Good luck! :goodvibes
