American Idol Thread

Wasn't that weird? Either she truly thought he had done both songs and was too fried to know the difference or somebody wrote a script for her and again she was too fried to know what part to read when!

Either way, how can you judge charisma in a performance that has yet to be performed? It was just all kinds of wrong.

Absolutely. Someone mentioned in a news article or blog today that the big problem with AI this year is that only four of the songs sung so far in the finals were less than 10 years old. I'd love to see them sing exclusively songs that are on the charts now.

I totally agree. They could have done that and kept the same mentors. For Mariah Carey, it could have been top 10 hits from anytime. For Dolly, it could have simply been country. For ALW it could have been any Broadway or movie theme song. For Neil Diamond, it could have been songs from guys in tight pants. They are just making the themes way too narrow.

i could be wrong on this, but it seems to me that this year is more of a popularity contest.

i think the teen vote will determine this years winner.

i am starting to think it will be down to david and david at the end.

They could take all the celebrity mentors, past and present, and call the theme "great has-beens of the 20th century"

Ugh, this week was horrible all around.

I just don't like Jason (I know many do, and that is great, we can disagree), I tried to like him, he is from Texas, but I just don't think he is that good.

David A., he has a good voice but I just don't think he is ready yet to be a "star".

Paula is nuts, that was so crazy that she didn't know what was going on.:happytv:

I do agree with the judges about Syesha, she would seem to be really good on Broadway.

And yes, it would be great if they were singing songs from the last decade at least. ;)

I'm guessing she probably was reading notes she wrote during rehearsal. But she's just so slow she didn't know what was going on.

Seriously? I know Mariah Carey is still pretty popular (although I'm not a fan.) And Neil still has an enormous fan base and is still touring and putting out CDs. ALW's musicals are just as popular as ever. I don't know a whole lot about Dolly but she's still pretty famous and popular as well.

Sure she could have been but how can you judge charisma in a performance that hasn't been performed? You can judge arrangement, etc. but you shouldn't be able to judge the performance itself. They shouldn't be making comments on actual performing until the performing is done. He could have been totally charismatic when he knew it was live.

They may still be popular but they haven't had any current hits (other than Mariah).

Those teens are sure good at voting! They also purchase a lot of music, so it isn't all a bad thing.

That's what happens when you give them unlimited text messaging!

Maybe I should quit giving my kids their allowance then? ;) :rotfl:

Personally, I think a lot of the current "hits" are just pure crap. I guess that means I'm officially old.

I totally agree, I have been whining on this thread for awhile about all the old music.
Indeed. My wife and I have been listening to popular music for, collectively, over 80 years :scared1: and even fogies like us prefer new music. The old stuff is just, well, OLD! Been there! Heard that! :rotfl: Enough with the old music. I wanted to see Carly sing some Michelle Branch. I want to see Brooke sing some Anna Nalick. I want to see David Cook sing some Daughtry! Maybe Jason would be tolerable singing Snow Patrol? I'm not sure what I'd have Sayesha sing...

I wasn't too excited about anything tonight. . .the two David's were the best of the lot, but that's not saying much.

I missed hearing Carly tonight and I'm still miffed that she's gone while Jason, Brooke, and Syesha are still around. . . :sad1:

Paula Paula Paula, how in the world can you judge anything, when you have no idea what's going on:confused3 :confused3 :confused3

David Cook did awesome last night:thumbsup2

Brooke I think her second was the best of the night:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2

David A I thought both song were in Simon words theme park performance at best darn teens who keep calling for him:rolleyes:

Syesha that girl can sing but I just don't see her as a pop singer I see her on Broadway

Jason, to me he has been the same the whole song. I don't see why know they are coming down on him so hard :confused3

I think Syesha will leave this week

To be fair, I think Paula is a bit more coherent during the auditions, when her vote really matters.

I think you're right! I enjoyed David Cook the most tonight... especially his second performance. Not really sure what was up with Paula, but I found myself turning red for her! :confused3 :rotfl:

My first thought on Paula last night...SCRIPTED!!!!

You could see the look of shock in everyone's eyes. They were thinking, "WTH is she doing?".

It all makes perfect sense to me. There were some nights when Randy was "playing" the mean judge. I said then that they probably told him that he was going overboard gushing at Carly and a couple of the others and to tone it down. Same with Simon, some nights he was oddly too nice when he should have been ripping them one.

I did think it was kind of mean of Ryan to point out that Brooke had the one lyric written on her hand. Noone made a big deal about it the night(s) that she goofed, why rub her nose in it now?

Ok, I'm so over David A now. He bores me to death! How can you take two fun upbeat songs and totally ruin them like that? UGH!

I thought Syesha looked beautiful and actually sounded great. I'm finally starting to like her. I wish she had started out sooner with the upbeat music. I agree with Simon that at this point it may be too late to save her.
