American Idol Thread

I'm a bit surprised but not terribly disappointed. I like Michael early on, but stopped voting for him a week or two ago (as I had stopped voting for Amanda a week or two before she was eliminated). I think one of the problems with AI's success is that singers climb on board now who are already "good" but that simply don't get better week-over-week. I think Michael fell into that pattern, and lost my interest.

I didn't care for Michael but, even so, I was shocked. I was also laughing because I kept getting this picture in my head of DISers kicking their TVs to the curb after that announcement was made.

I've already lost my favorite 3 so I'm apathetic on who gets the boot from here on out. I agree that the AI venue would be best for David A with Carly or David C finishing second.

Take heart Michael fans, at least he'll be on the tour. Actually I think he'll do just fine without being this year's American Idol. ::yes::

I didn't think MJ would win but I thought he'd go farther than Sayesha, KLC and Brooke. Carly should be the next if not KLC to go.

Why do people think DA can sing? He's ok but he's not the be all end all. I hope he's not this year's AI.

I'm starting to agree with those that say that maybe him not winning was for the best, since only Kelly and Carrie have really done much since they won.

Makes me wonder if this is this years planned 'shocker' elimination. I wonder if TPTB see that DC was a little more popular, and wanted to keep a broad range of styles to keep everyone involved. Really, really wrong.

Yep, I really believe it was TPTB that had Michael Johns elminated.

I just started watching American Idol last season, maybe this stuff always happens, but it is kind of sad really when someone with less talent gets to stay.

I was actually sad to see Michael Johns go. I really did like him. I didn't think he was going to win, but he should have been on the show a bit longer.

This was me last night ---->  :sad2:

We were discussing at dinner who we thought the top three would be and our decision was MJ, David Cook and DA (barf).

Guess we were wrong.

 to Robin.

So much for the theory that the "boys" (to quote the AI judges), are far superior to the "girls". I'm finding it odd how the former are dropping at a much faster pace than the latter.

I have to say, I liked MJ, but prefer Carly and David C. I also do like David A., a position that definitely puts this mature woman in the minority here. While he does favor the ballad type songs, the same could be said about all the contestants. They each have their own "style" and it is performed week after week. Even one of my favorites, David C., while he's changed/rearranged other genres of music, those arrangements are still made based upon his personal style. I really feel that all of the performers this year are quite predictable where their "sound" is concerned. That said, I'm enjoying the programs for the most part.

I guess this is more than a shock for me... the number one MJ fan... ;)

I guess I have to deal with the FIRST time my favorite didn't win... it's not fun...:sad2:

...

Join the Club, Robin. In my case, Taylor Hicks was my only AI favorite who made it. I've dealt with disappointment with this show ever since I started watching it.

I'm tempted to figure out which contestant I like the least and then try to vote strategically against them every week.

agnes!

Is he even doing anything now? I haven't heard anyting about/from him since he was voted off idol.

Yes, he's doing very well in the country genre...he has a few songs on radio right now and I believe has an album out that is doing very well. :goodvibes

Check out the country charts...he's burning them *up*. He's doing better than other AIs who have placed higher in the contest than he did.

ok, that would explain why I haven't heard of him- I dont care for country music so I don't hear anything about it....

Bucky is doing pretty good in the world of country:goodvibes :goodvibes

I don't mean to step on the Taylor Hicks fans out there, what is he doing now?? I don't think I have heard anything from or about him in a long time

I guess I was a little surprised that it was not KLC or Brooke but not that MJ got booted. I don't like him, sorry.

If you go on pure talent, Carly should win but she is very annoying to watch sing and pretty fake on stage. I think the two David's will be in the final two giving the edge to David Cook.

I don't believe for a minute that the show eliminates anyone. If Michael Johns had such a big following, bigger than Sayesha or Kristy or Carly, why would the show want to alienate that larger audience? They would have absolutely nothing to gain. The show is all about ratings and a larger viewing audience means higher ratings. They wouldn't eliminate their most popular contestants.

I kind of disagree with you, I think that American Idol know who they want to win. that why some constants are so built up over others, It's never good when Simon is off giving interviews on who he wants to win. I truly believe that American Idol wants David A to win, they think he will sell tons of albums and make American Idol more money, I really don't think anyone is going to stop watching American Idol just cause Michael left, so they aren't losing viewers

I know all of MJ's fans and many others are upset with last night elimination. I think the problem was that he shared a lot of fans with David Cook. After David Cook's performance on Tuesday, they were probably so worried about him going that they gave most of their votes to DC. Just a guess. Also for those who are amazed that KLC is still there, remember that she is the choice of Vote for the Worst. As bad as she really is, I think this group is able to sway the results at this stage. I get their point (she is the worst) but I wish that they would go away.

Taylor sold about 600,000 copies of his first album. Although he had the lowest sales of any of the idol winners (too early to tell with Jordin Sparks yet), he still sold more albums than any of the other non-winning contestants other than Daughtry and Clay Aiken, I believe.

Although many of the non-winning contestants have had some success, none except Daughtry and Aiken have managed to reach the sales numbers of the winners.

I kind of disagree with you, I think that American Idol know who they want to win. I truly believe that why you will see some singers ((David A)) I truly beleive American Idol has already decide that they want David A to win

I think they want the person who they deem to be most marketable to win. I don't think that they actually manipulate votes to do so. If that was the case, Taylor Hicks, would never, ever have won. The show knew Daughtry was going to be big. Why would they have let him go so early?
