American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

I thought Antonella was the worst one, but like others have said, I don't think she'll be voted off this week:rolleyes1 I thought her comment to Simon was really uncalled for when she said he got rid of Jennifer Hudson and look where she is now. I know Simon explained that it wasn't him, it was the American public, but he should have added that she was no Jennifer Hudson. The only thing I give her credit for is for holding her head up high after everything that's been going on. I can't imagine it's been easy for her having to deal with all of this and then go on to sing.

I agree with you. I have not liked her from the beginning and feel that if she wants to sing with the big guns she should be able to take the feedback without being snippy to the judges. He did hold back when she threw in that comment about Jennifer, and it only made her look even more petty.
Having said all of that, I cannot imagine having to stand in front of cameras as though everything is fine. I give her credit for being able to come back.

Gina Glockson - Alone - There is absolutely nothing that I like about this girl. I think that she is too rough, too cocky and not that talented. Didn't enjoy her performance at all. Oh and someone tell the backup singers to shut up! - "5"

Alaina Alexander - Not Ready to Make Nice - While this girl is utterly beautiful, she just doesn't have a singing gift. She is no more talented than probably 200 or so that they sent home. I also agree with Simon. I thought that she had asthama they way she ran out of breath about five lines into the song. - "6"

LaKisha Jones - Midnight Train to Georgia - I love this girl. She really would have nailed the entire song, but her nerves did her in a bit at the beginning. I do wish she would since something a bit less loud next week. If you guys remember, that's what killed Mandisa - she could only sing the wildly loud songs. I think Lakisha will fail if she doesn't vary her song types a bit. - "9"

Melinda Doolittle - My Funny Valentine - Now this girl can sing. I loved her performance it actually gave me chills. I agree that she dressed better last night and looked nice. I don't agree with Simon - I think that the praise will eventually go to her head. Gosh, I hope not. = "10"

Antonella Barba - Because You Loved Me - Send this girl home. I don't agree with Paula. I don't even think she's pretty. She's tacky and trashy and a poor sport. - "0"

Jordin Sparks - Reflection - I like Jordin but, how many times to the judges have to say to stay away from Whitney, Celine and Christina songs before the contestants believe them? She is way better than the performance she gave last night. "7"

Stephanie Edwards - Dangerously in Love - I hate Beyonce so I am naturally not familiar with this song, but I, like everyone else apparently, thought she was screwing up the song. It sounded like she was trying to squeeze too many words into one line. Anyway, shame on her for assuming that the entire audience was familiar enough with Beyonce to know that she sang the song properly. She may go after this performance even though I really think she's good. "4" for song choice "7" for singing.

Leslie Hunt - Feeling Good - This performance was just plain painful. She isn't forgettable because she sucked so bad. Leslie has one tone to her voice and I don't think it's a good one. "3"

Haley Scarnato - Queen of the Night - I feel so badly that this girl sang this song. I really think she has a great voice but she isn't choosing the right songs. She really had the moves down though and I could easily see her as a pop princess ala Britney. Poor thing! "5"

Sabrina Sloan - All the Man That I Need - I like Sabrina. Not too impressed with this performance, but it wasn't bad either. She can do better. "7"

My favorites:
Melinda and Lakisha

Go home:
Antonella and Leslie

You wrote what I think....except for Gina. I like her but she is not my favorite. My favorite so far is Melinda. I had chills while she sang, and after her, the rest of the girls were playing catch-up. There are some really big voices here, Lakisha, Sabrina and Jordan can really sing, but they are going to have to pick the right songs and pray that they don't have to follow Melinda.

Favorites: Melinda and Lakisha
Please go home: Leslie and Antonella

I still think the back up singers and band have negotiated a contract that gives them way too much air time.

They are very loud and they get camera time now....I'm not watching for the band or backups, I'm watching to see and HEAR the contestants. They were so loud with Alaina that I really have no idea how she sounded...I couldn't hear her.

The backup vocals were ESPECIALLY loud last night!!!! I told my husband that you could hear them MORE than the lead singer. Hope that doesn't happen again. Although, for a couple of the girls like Ant and Leslie, maybe we WANT to hear the backup singers rather than them!!!!

OMG! We're not worthy! :rotfl: :worship: :worship: :rotfl2:

All I can think of when I see these spoiled narcissistic brats pout & stick out their tongues & act like the BRATS they are is that IMO (as someone who works in the performing arts)...
I would NEVER hire either Antonella or Alaina based on their nasty attitudes alone. Life is stressful enough, I don't need any little snooty witches trying to give me attitude. They think Simon is tough? :lmao: ..just try wasting some production company's real MONEY.

I'd toss them out on their bony little arses so fast their heads would spin.

agnes!

I totally agree, agnes.

We've had a few "divas" in the studio but they were children. The adults are usually THRILLED they have a job. The children had stage mothers who had convinced them that the sun rose just for them. My mother always told me "raise your child in a way that ANYONE will be happy to babysit him." That's not an easy job but it's important.

The BIGGEST stars are the best people. I think that's why they stayed STARS. It's the little snits that come and go... one exception.. Diana Ross!!:scared1:

Simon hid the nail on the head when he talked about the egos with no talent and how wonderful it is to have someone so humble.

My son tried out for a solo yesterday that I KNOW he wanted badly. When he got into the car this afternoon he said that another child got the part. He said the teacher told him he scored 4 tens and one five because he sang too fast. He was happy for the boy who got it because he said his voice was incredible.

Right now I hear him in his room working on his TIMING.

Constructive criticism and how to handle it --- from a 14 year old.

Age has little to do with how a person handles constructive criticism. A person that handles it well is a humble person, a person that is trying hard but knows that even if they have done their absolute best and had their best ever performance, there's still ALWAYS room for improvement. This is a person that TRIES to be perfect each and every time - with the knowledge that perfection will never come - but the need to try every time is there anyway.

A person that doesn't take constructive comments well is a person that is immature and arrogant usually with the belief that their talents are far greater than they really are. When it comes to AI these people also IMO are tone deaf :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: (how could they now know they sounded horrible???)

Your son taking his lumps and learning from them not only says a great deal about him as a person but it's also a great indicator of the type of parenting he has received. ;) Good job mom.

Thanks but I NEVER take credit for Michael, I WANT to be more like him!! :goodvibes

My co worker is a kicker and pouter and she's 44 years old.... She had to be evaluated last week and no one wanted to do it. My boss, the VP of Operations, had to do it. He told me later that she CRIED during the assessment...:scared1: I couldn't but DID believe it!

What she said! :thumbsup2
Robin- I see some of your comments regarding your son throughout the Boards and it is clear that you are raising him to be a strong responsible person, and you are so right! It is no easy job. There are a few "monsters" on Idol whose parents did a less than stellar job.

Amen say we! I also hate the group songs. But an hours worth of 10-second spots must be sold, right! ;)

Really? I love the group songs! I missed them a few seasons ago when they didn't do them as much.

Aww...Nick was such a good sport about leaving.

If Sanjaya doesn't get sent home, I am going to throw something.

I'm right there, between Sanjanya and Antonella they better be gone or I might throw a shoe.
