American Idol Season 6: The Official Thread

When you say Elliott and Fantasia don't have good voices, regardless of if you like them or not, you lose a lot of credibility. Fantasia was not my cup of tea, but she has an awesome voice.

.

Everybody is entitled to their opinions. IMO Fantasia's voice is right up there with nails on a chalkboard - both are pretty darn annoying to me.

It's ok if people don't have the same taste as you.

Elliott's voice is undeniable and I enjoy his style because he harkens to 1970s soul and isn't overly generic like the trite female country singers or people who are just there because of their looks.

I agree a lack of credibility is shown when someone states they singers don't have good voices.

It may not be what they are used to, thus "terrible" in thier opinion. I love the comment on trite female country singers--I swear they have a cookie cutter factory that mass produces these singers down South! They all look the same, sound the same, and I bet they were all in the same pageants!

I think Dan only likes certain singers (Country style women)

If you only like or listen on one certain genre of music, all will sound bad to you. If you only listen to hard rock--Frank Sinatra will sound like poo! Elliott has a soulful voice, not oversynthesized or studio produced. Yes, he is a different style person than your average pop star. (looks not included)

The context and style of Dan's posting is hard to read... Is he comparing Fantasia to a pole dancer? Or is Chip and Dale there for a reason? I don't truly understand what he is attempting to say. The verb tense and context are so off I don't understand his meaning. I am not a fan of Fantasia (I feel that season was the worst!) but I don't even attempt to understand his comparison.

Carrie is underwhelming--I totally agree. She's boring and sings the same style, and her folksy atitude made her Heart look laughable in one episode.

Yes, we will all have differences--but one posters don't need to tear down choices or take it personally when someone else says something that they disagree with. Someone posted that Sanjaya had overlarge teeth--did it bother me? NO! I never noticed it before.

I appreciate those that can look past a genre and just focus on talent. I would probably NEVER buy Chris Daughtry music if it was anything like the stuff he sang on AI. It just isn't my cup of tea. But I don't knock his talent and that the boy can sing.

Anyone who writes off a specific style or genre just b/c they dont' like it.....and then categorize anyone who sings that stuff or that way as not being able to sing...just really doesn't make sense to me.

I think ALL the winners..and MOST of the finalists in MOST of the seasons all have talent in their respective singing styles. I haven't even bought one album yet and the only one hubby bought for me was a compilation CD from season one that is hiding somewhere in the disc changer.

He had his teeth fixed, there was an article about it in People Magazine.

I read that People article at the gym. I was totally amazed at the one picture--the one where he is looking down!

Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are my favorite winners. I was completely underwhelmed with Taylor Hicks. We went to the AI tour and I thought he was the weakest.

Does anyone remember the kid from last year that looked like Fred Savage/Donny Osmond? I think his name was Will? I really liked him (I know I am in the minority). I was hoping he would try out again. I don't know the rules, can you try out again if you make the top 24? I know that you can try out if you make it to hollywood, since several people did this year.

See this is where you are wrong I like singers of all genre's and if you have read some of my previous posts you would know that rubeun was my all time favorite with Taylor a close second....My favorite singer outside of AI is George Strait I have seen him in concert 5 times and am going again next week when he comes to Charleston...My second favorite singer...Hmmmm....I would say its a group and its New Edition...then perhaps Nora Jones....I love Carrie and I like kellie Pickler bt more for her than her voice....

As far as the Chip and Dale comment I will repeat...I said...Fantasia had no more business winning AI than I do being a Chip and Dale dancer...see you took that way out of context...

I dont like Elliotts voice therefore I think he stinks same thing with Fantasia....but I dont lose any credibility as Ticketman and Cindyb claim....if thats the case then you both lose the same amount of credibility when you state one is boring or there heart is laughable....there is no difference i am entitled not to like someones voice...that is my credibility of being a AI critic same as you...I lose no more credibility than anyone else on this board...sorry you feel that way bit you lost all credibility with me by saying it...

..I would also hate to think this is turning into something racial by saying its time for a AA male to win....let the best singer win regardless of race...

Dan, I had to chuckle when reading the above. You've come a long way from your comments last season.:thumbsup2

From season 5:
.I am not quite sure who I feel is the best singer this year....I will decide after this week...I would like to see a white guy win it this year, not a racist statement by any means i just would like to see it happen....

See I dont wanna be mean but this just proves your ignorance and lack of any credibility...see now you are getting on a personal level and including my wife and every women on both sides of our family....see I am from the South...SOUTH CAROLINA AND PROUD OF IT

People, people, people... stop the bickering or I'll send you all to your room. :teeth:

Maybe I'm easily pleased but, since I started watching during season 4, I've liked the voices of at least the top 3 both seasons. Did I like their stage presence, no. Carrie had none and ditto Katherine although she was no where near as vapid as Carrie.

I loved Elliott's voice. I understand the vibrato wasn't for everyone. He was fun to watch develop week after week just as Vonzell was. Taylor and Bo I liked from day one. Unique, bluesy, love machines... ahhhhhhhhhh!

I wasn't watching the first 3 years but from what I've seen of them, yup, liked Ruben, Clay, Fantasia and, to a much lesser extent, Kelly. Not really a bad voice among them but some are less appealing than others to me.

And that's really the bottom line, we all like different things. Doesn't make it wrong or right and I don't think you have to get insulting to make your point.

Thank you and I agree....i guess neither one of us have any credibility....:lmao:

If you are stating about the dancing revue, that would be Chippendale. As Chippendale performers are male dancers not female dancers. I didn't understand the context because it was unreadable. Chip and Dale are chipmunks at Disney World consequently two totally different things!

I think the concept of credibility is hard to grasp. Once someone states an opinion there is evidence to back it up. All that is stated is that Elliott stinks and well, there is no evidence except that he stinks. Even if there was a supporting statement such as "I was not fond of his rendition of Moody's Mood for love as it lacked originality" (just an example) or I feel that Fantasia rendition of ______(insert song here) was an example of a song that was out of her vocal range shows credibility. Even if it is an unpopular opinion, supporting statements give credibility to an opinion. To just state "he stinks" and walk away, does not bode well.

From season 5:

Dang how long did it take to find that....I think I made that comment cause there were alot of black and white comments...dont remember right off....LOL....that is too funny though....I dont and never felt that way by any means....I am all for the best person winning....

Loved the vapid comment! That is the word I was looking for!

:rotfl:

My fingers got ahead of my brain....LOL...chippendale dancers is what i meant...sorry I got in such a rush to defend myself...I was reading it back and laughing....oh well....now you know what i meant...

of to rephrase my Eliott and Fantasia stink comments..

I have not liked any version of any song that either of them have performed....therefore I thought they stunk....ok

Now thats a supporting statement! You didn't like any of their performances is a fine way to support your opinion.

I don't have any stand out favorite as of yet, maybe next week. I wouldn't mind seeing someone improve from week to week as Kelly did. And maybe do the music themes they did the very first season instead of just each artist themes each week. It was fun that first season to see them dressing up for the different genres.

I am still confused about this whole crdibility thing....what makes any of us really credible judging someones voice....its not like its scientific evidence....its a voice...you either like it or you dont....maybe some in betweens....but nothing makes one more credible than the next...I dont like Fantasia's or Elliott's voices...thats my opinion...I think they stunk...thats my opinion....for those who like them fine....I could say you are not credible right...I dont get....I dont think credibility is an issue....this is an opinon discussion boards its not like we are expert judges or witnesses....does that make any sense....I cant really explain it but it just dont seem right to say I am not credible cause I dont like a persons voice....I mean I would rather listen to Wiliam Hung over Elliott and Fantasia....but thats a matter of opnion not credibility right

I agree with this...some of the themes last year were so boring....I think it alienates alot of viewers if that dont like that particular artist....like if they did a Prince week I would not care to watch that....but an 80's week would be great....I understand why they do it but some weeks are boring
